You can definitely see Saenchai started to slip back into a more intense, serious "fighter" mindset toward the last seconds of round 3, and that energy lit something inside him midway in round 4. Pretty sure Saenchai's gesture in the beginning of round 4, the "hug", is him attempting to remind himself to loosen up and not get too serious. He could tell he's being hyped up into a full fight mindset. I think he felt the impact of your tactical adjustments after the first three rounds, and began to slip into higher and higher intensity once you started to find more success with your feints, which opened him up more (otherwise he just eats leg kicks all day and block/parry/trap everything else). In addition to that, you started to really push your reach advantage in round 4, and landed a much higher volume of crisp jabs and crosses with the help of posting against him with your long guard. After taking a few to his forehead, Saenchai's instincts kicked in hard, and his counter overhand right got super fast and more forceful, and he hopped in with his counter-knee with intensitiy. How he "woke up" at 11:18 was fascinating to see. What a master, such grace and a good heart.

What an honor to have sparred the GOAT himself. Saenchai's fight IQ is so incredibly high. I've never seen another human being at any point in time fight on his level. There may have been others who were faster or stronger than him, but no one understands a fight like Saenchai does.

Sanchai is extremely gifted and even in sparring you spent most of your time on defense allowing him to dictate the terms of the fight. Yea I was a bit surprised how hard Saenchai was going, having watched him dozens of times in other sparring. Saenchai often plays around, and he pulls a bit more on his head strikes. Whereas he was punching Jeff at the limit of what I consider safe sparring. It's not like Jeff was going hard, which often happens with people (mostly amateurs) who get too excited that they're sparring Saenchai. If anything, Jeff was being much more careful. It may simply be that Saenchai was intentionally teaching Jeff by applying constant pressure and sweeps, since Jeff relies a lot on movement, misdirection, and kicks.

@@taugrim because Jeff is strong and talented so Saenchai is giving him what is a challenge, simple as. If Jeff was weaker he would have gone easier. Saenchai has neither the height or weight advantage; it's to be expected. Legend of a fighter

Jeff you're so good, but you definitely stepped into the lion's den with Saenchai lol. The fact that he played with you for over half of this and you got him to actually act a little serious says a LOT about your skill. Conversely, Saenchai looked like he was just happy to finally have someone good to spar with lol. I hardly ever see him break a sweat in training. What a privilege to be able to watch this and learn from it. I can only imagine how great it must've been for you to actually participate, Jeff. Thanks for sharing this. 🙂While everyone marvels at Saenchai for his highlight reel signature moves (overhand left, left kicks, flying knees, cartwheel kick, sweeps), the thing that truly amazes me about him is that his fight IQ is so high it allows him to break the "rules" we've discussed on your channel before that smaller fighters like he and I normally have to do to stay alive. He doesn't dodge and weave and move around constantly. He comes forward in a slow and deliberate pace and never backs away as if he was actually a heavyweight fighter. He constantly pressures instead of hit and running. He uses both physical and verbal fakes (the mind games as you put it). He crosses the centerline right into the other fighter's ideal striking zone which would normally be suicide in order to execute his flying knees and sweeps. And he gets away with it all and makes it look so effortless. He truly is a unique fighter and deserves all his accolades as we can see here.

As a Thai I have to say I agree my friend, Muaythai is all about attack and receive the attack and counterattack, just like the Kru will teach Nak-Muay to Check the kick not to dodge the kick. This art was designed for fighting with a lot of enemies at the same time like in a war so dodge is not the best way to go sometimes when you have a very limited area and what you could only do is fighting with the strong based and receive the damage with the right moves and then counterattack to finish. So muaythai fighters they do not have a footwork but they instead have their own Muaythai fighting Rhythms when they fight to make their base strong and most of the time they all will try to fight in a very close distance to finish their opponents.

That was a beautiful session, lots of respect on both sides. It's one of my dearest wish to have a chance to spare or at least meet Saenchai in my life. I am really happy for you that you had a chance to do it and it feels like a survival session 😅 It feels so hard to predict what he can do and the moment you raise your lef a sweep can come at any time, insane 😵

Right away I notice how his ring iq and subtle footwork makes it so you never get distance. I'm pretty sure this was a deliberate choice since Sanchai will fight on the outside just as often. He knew you wanted to dance away and make distance and removed that.... Beautiful

Amazing!!! His sweeps are so fast, effortless and smooth. It’s like a boxers jab. He can do it in his sleep. I slowed it down so many times and the reaction time and muscle memory is absurd. his pattern recognition and overall reading for strikes is insane. Like my first Muay Thai coach always told me “you will never outkick a true thai, you just won’t.

What an honor. It's so different when you're versus a seasoned veteran. The ring is the same size as usual, but they can make it feel so small. The pressure is insane, you can't get overwhelmed or you forget to move how you usually do and before you know it you have your butt on the floor. 11:11 OOOOOO baby! It's like watching a light-footed T-1000 terminator walking down the main character. Scary how good he is at reading what you're going to do while in the middle of your striking sequence. It's like he's got an AI processing unit analyzing your movements while you're still at the beginning of them, and then adjusts his defenses/counters on the fly. Craziness.

The footage is definitely blurrier than your normal videos. But even with your normal footage, it might be nice if you started recording in 60fps for sparring footage at least. 60fps looks a lot more natural for sparring and you can get a lot more detail about it. Especially when you're fighting at this level.

I usually record on 60 fps, in fact this video was recorded on 60 fps. I didn't change any settings and for some reason it became blurry, same with my filming with trainer gae :/ I really don't know what happened but I was told I need to increase my shutter speed

This sparring session showcases saenchai's skill set really well. You pointed out a lot of things i would never notice. Don't think other analysis videos break it down this well. What's crazy is how quickly he can read the situation and respond correctly everytime. Was there anything you did that you believe worked well on saenchai? Or is he just that good?
@TheDocbach
@TheDocbach Жыл бұрын
Maybe Jeff will answer you differently, but I could see that Jeff was getting in some good work when he kept Seachai at mid distance by mixing his jabs, crosses and low kicks like at 2:30 - 2:46 & 4:23-4:40. Jeff has a reach and somewhat of a striking speed advantage so he tried to use it. But you have to understand that Seanchai has over 350 professional fights. There really isnt anything he hasnt seen or dealt with in the ring. He will patiently block or get hit by jabs and low kicks to set up his offense. Even as a 42 year old, his nervous system still has Muay Thai cooked into it from a long prospourous fight career.

@@gabrielgabriel5177that’s because you probably wasn’t in the best shape you could have been in your 20s then And I say it with absolutely 0 offense intended But if you actually are serious in your 20s you reach a physical peak until like 27/28 that just decreases after Ofc on a regular basic human scale you can still feel athletic fast and everything, but compared to the 20s athlete with Olympian condition, that can’t compare
