@@Hemestal didn't he mention watching some trailer 8 years ago (might've been 5 years, can't remember) with no textures, so that means he had to have been old enough to be interested in the game and possibly back it 8 years ago. I find it hard to believe someone younger than like 14 (maybe a couple years younger but not much) would be interested and backing a game, so that'd put him in the 17-22 years old range, depending on whether it was 5 years or 8, and if he was 12 or 14 at the time. I could see someone that young being that cringe, particularly if it's not their mother tongue.

I am an OG kickstarter backer of Star Citizen. I'm still an occasional player and long-term optimist for the project. I recognize that it's taken too long, but I'm also experienced with the copium, so I know of what I write. This reddit commenter is so deep in the copium I can't imagine him ever being able to find a way to let go. It's actually kinda' sad.

And Star Citizen I can at least understand why someone would be willing to keep on giving the benefit of the doubt - that idea of a fully-lived-in space sim where you can buy a spaceship, fly planet to planet, be an Entrepeneur(tm) etc is an incredibly powerful fantasy (it's kept EVE Online going for I don't know how many years), and one that will forever attract diehard fans who are completely prepared to sink eyewatering amounts of money into the mere *promise* of such a game.

I’ve only ever backed star citizen and dead matter. 1 of them is actually the other does have a playable ish game that does have promise(obv SC) however if I see early access I just avoid, or any game that has reviews saying either this game has potential or it could be good, I just outright pass on those games.

I saw a KZbinr just last night say: "WoW is in a great state, it's probably better than it's ever been.....WoW's player base is lower than it's ever been. My views are in the toilet......WoW is still fine. It's still has the most players of any MMO." Well FF14 took the title of largest player base almost 2 years ago. The cognitive dissonance it takes to say that a game is in the a great state, and even might be the greatest state that it's ever been in, while it's at it's lowest player numbers and has lost over 90 percent of it's peak player base.

CoD sells the same game every year and rakes in billions. FIFA makes a billion a year making the same game over and over. This is the type of copium I was referring to. GTA 5 became the highest selling medium of all time in 24 hours at 750 million dollars. In 3 days it was over a billion. That's a cultural phenomenon too. One that's still going strong and is consistently earning in the top 5 video game income every year and it's been out nearly a decade. Pure copium. Don't give WoW a pass. Don't be that guy. They want the best for the game they enjoy and by pointing out the flaws or misbehavior they address issues that could possibly be resolved. Let's take the Sonic movie for example. Fans of Sonic were critical about how he looked at first, how it was a horrible looking Sonic model that didn't come close to how Sonic looks like in the games. The Director took notice of the fan backlash and decided to delay the movie and alter the Sonic model to a proper Sonic looking one, making the fans happy, making the movie a success. A fanboy, o gjees, they are blinded zealous unreasonable people who are so deep into their love for a product that nothing can be bad about it. Anyone who dares to be critical must be destroyed. Can't point out the bugs in a game, nope cause you don't know what you talk about and should make a game yourself before you do so. Playstation has better graphics then Xbox, even though you would have to free the frame, zoom in a billion times and maybe, just maybe you will see that that background flower is slightly tinybit smoother then the xbox 360 counter part of the game...but don't you dare say that the PC version looks better cause then you are a PC mastah race. Beta 1 was like 2016 or 2017... like it has been beta for ages now. When I saw next to no work being done I asked for a refund which I was put on a waitlist and by the time I supposedly finished that waitlist I got put into another waitlist to actually get my refund... however for some reason when that waitlist finished they went completely silent and never answered me again despite me reaching out numerous time. Edit: I updated the game client after not launching it for ages at this point... only server up is for internal testing. We still don't have active beta servers 24/7 for testing. Last post I saw about beta testing was from last year and said we have it 24/3 but was typically only 24/2 most of the time.

According to Wikipedia dark age of camelot's development took 18 months with 25 developers on a budget of 2,5 millions. And last year the devs announced creating a new classic server for it with new bigger content and new features. All that's needed are some updated graphics and the camelot unchained backers would get what they waited for tens years. From a different company that didn't take over 30 millions in crowdfunding and investment.

What is this new engine even supposed to fix that they cannot do with e.g. Unity or UE4/5? There some holy MMO holy grail to be found somewhere? If it has to do with networking and how many people can simultaneously interact with each other in one seamless zone then I will keep making the point that this alone does not equal good gameplay, rather the contrary according to my experiences. I wish MMO designers would let go off that silly fantasy of having a trizillion players in one spot. It's really not that awesome thing they think it is. Generally the more people in one zone the flatter or more toxic the gameplay becomes. So imho this solves nothing. I mean what happened to all those games with SpatialOS? They failed. Despite or because of the dev studios putting so much faith in that. (?)

My first MMO that I played was Ultima Online. That lasted a month, because that's all I could get for free, and my parents wanted me off their computer. So the next MMO I played was when I got my own PC, and it was DAOC. I played for years. Far too much time on my characters. My favorite MMO of all time, and also my most reviled. Jacobs did this in DAOC as well; he would talk big, promise the world, come up short, and no one blamed him because he wasn't "scamming" anyone. It's a shame he did the same bullshit with Camelot Unchained, but despite how much I love DAOC, this is why I didn't put a single penny into that project. I feel bad for the folks who wasted money on it :(

We should just consider crowdfunded projects switching to "making a game engine", a giant red flag. I mean it's not like Epic Games or Unity Technologies just sat down and made an engine over the weekend. They have spent a lot of time and money making amazing engines which people can use to make their games (via licence), so why would anyone want to buy a no-name brand engine to do the same? It has no previous track record, we don't know if it's going to be continuously developed after you start to make your game using their tools and what will be the support in case it breaks?

Deeply sadden by this. With EA killing the studio and the games behind it dying off to shutdown. DAoC was my gateway "drug" to MMORPGs. Even remember the freaking TechTV show, "Portal" being the literal reason I somehow talked my parents into getting it (and well, they got into playing it, and a few of their friends, lol). So I had been missing that feel of Camelot (aka Albion), Midgard, and even Hiberina. I miss my freaking Friar......the character who's name I still use to this day as an account. And DAoC random name generator was the one that gave it. So yeah. That game left a big mark on my internet life. And to see a man scamming people using the dream to bring back at least some game to relive those glory days to make a MOBA. A game no one even asked for. Heck didn't even know existed. And wish I didn't know. As I hate MOBAs. So by this point. I am kind of done. I know it is impossible to get to relive a dream again. To even dare to see a game like DAoC return. Even if there is a fan community that has private servers and such. I find it a bit of a ball ache to attempt to get on to play it. Plus, I kind of moved on. Found other MMOs. I never will forget DAoC. But, it is best to leave it in the graveyard.

Question about kickstar projects pivotting their "focus". If you want to help fund an mmo and they go "thanks for the money we are going to make an engine to sell" can they do that? At that point you paid for a product which would be the mmo but they use the money like it's a free investment which they can use for other monetairy gains. Digihom had a lot to lose from their attacks, since their business was cut short by Valve. These ones can only lose money they already have from legal fees, and will likely hire a lawyer. Filling dmca takedown notices is free, but that is minor. Kira is very vulnerable, a lot of personal information is out. Arya tried some heavy blows, but he was kind of stupid. I'm in the target demographic for Camelot Unchained. I was experiencing a lot of regret a year or so ago that I didn't get a chance to back. Kinda glad I didn't now. (I also saw Chronicles of Elyria when it was live but I was too poor to throw money at it)

I was a Player of Dark age of Camelot. Honestly one of the best PvP/RvR game ever made. When CSE told us they were gonna created a successor i was so freaking Hype! But right now...oh my god, it's like a ponzi scheme at this point :/

That reddit post reads like something Mark Jacobs would post under a fake account... also warhammer online a work of art? It was an unmitigated train wreck of an mmo... the entire concept and game design was flawed... they tried to please everyone at once and disapointed everyone with that aproach.. hell they couldnt even get all the player classes ready for launch day it was so badly managed!
