Great video - WoW focus was always on young with spare income or retired older/disabled with little money, but all have time. A steep increase in price really makes less accessible to those on benefits, young with less money due to inflation. The retired will be fine. So, who are they targeting? I want them to merge the WoW servers or allow free transfers. Having to pay hundreds to move my characters is not going to happen. Spare time to re-create? Little to none. I feel they are asleep at the wheel on this front.

Because nobody seems to be able to do an actual good MMO. Honestly, as a wow player, I have to admit, is kinda a shitty basic videogame, technically speaking. Only reason it has been the "king of the mmos" for that insane amount of time is not that the game is an unbeatable masterpiece, a wonderful piece of enginery. But cause the emerging MMO's are all really bad. Only a few made it, FF14 made it because it is way too similar to wow with a best-selling franchise behind it, Guilt Wars 2 is basically wow but better and TESO is Skyrim online, a best-selling franchise behind it. I believe the reason of the lack of a good mmo, or the premonited "wow-killer" is the absence of good developers willing to do something for this genre, we just got chinese dudes trying to charge us for p2w so hard.

My biggest gaming regret is not giving the game a go. I was on Xbox 360 when it came out and was eager to try it but couldn't convince any of my buddies to join so I just kind of forgot about the game. Watching the Josh Strife Hayes video really drilled home how much I missed out. As a FPS / TPS and occasional MMO enjoyer I'm sure I would have loved that game. Is there anything else on the market like it? Can't think of any true MMO / shooter blends. Once Human looks like it might come closest when it launches?

Hi Lucky! Just want to state something: I’m a mainly Ashes Of Creation Content Creator (although in Spanish) and stating that it’s a mainly PvP game is a miss conception. Ashes does have tons of PvP systems that make the game feel “real”. I mean, you can chose to kill someone but you have to bear the consecuences. But it’s not full loot, doesn’t exist a PK city, you stack debuffs, etc Also the game sever mainly expands through PVE content, nodes, dungeons, events, etc Ashes it’s a mainly PVE game that lets the player choose if they wanna risk themselves to a fight or not! Anyways, great video!

My absolute favorite new MMO that you didn't mention is Bitcraft. I got into the first closed alpha test in April, and it was AMAZING. Definitely had some bugs, but it was so addictive. They are having another alpha test that starts June 17th! Im really excited to hop back in.

Man oh man. Hearing Lineage 2 brought me back. That was my first mmorpg back when I was in college. I played that game for quite some time. Glad to hear there are some newer titles coming out with that as their aim. Looking forward to them. Can’t we just get a remake of Lineage 2? Rebuild it all but include the OG soundtrack please.

TL is amazing for the first few months. After 100 days, there will be a huge gap between full trait meta whale players vs F2P players. Some good epic were locked behind world boss drop which require Guild raid(who's willing to share its drop) or lucent or a powerful dps team to get drop from open world boss.

AoC isn't coming out without them having another reliable source of revenue first, if the game is really intended to not have the normal monetization you see in new MMO's. I have zero faith in the gaming industry anymore. So unlikely it sees the light of day other than to create a sense of 'hype' for gamers in order to string them along.

AOC plans to be sub to play with cosmetic shop. pretty normal. they are just planning on forgoing the box price up front and not selling the best weapon cosmetics so that people can earn them, or at least that's how i understood it. its a long way from being finish so time will tell

Hey Lucky, thanks for including the bit about PoE2, the one I'm most looking forward to. As for the MMOs ... well, the genre has lost a lot of its appeal for many well understood reasons, mostly because the economics are just bad for developers and publishers. The best games coming out these days seem to come from small-ish indie studios that are lean and passionate. I mean, look at Enshrouded and Soulmask (probably the most content rich, stable Early Access title from day one ever). Triple-A titles are going the way of linear TV. I know GGG was bought by TenCent, so it's moving up to Triple-A status, but I still think of them as a small-ish indie. Hope to see you cover it.

I quit Dragonflight after I couldn't get a main story quest item to drop in a reasonable amount of time. Actually, I kept trying well beyond the point of reason. 12% is much too low for something like that. When you've got millions of players, 12% is probably nearly guaranteed to utterly screw over hundreds of players. Even if you don't have millions of players, why risk treating even just a single customer so horribly? Bottom line: In any game, there needs to be a reasonable maximum number of successful attempts it can take to get anything that isn't purely cosmetic. There can still be randomness, but it must be controlled in that way. There are different ways of implementing this. I favor those that show the player that things are working properly: You get at least one token per successful attempt, randomly you can get more, and when you have enough, you can turn them into the thing, or trade them for the thing, you're actually after. This allows designers to choose a maximum as well as minimum number of successful attempts it takes to get something, and to control the randomness between the two. Mathematically, it makes more sense for the minimum number of tokens per attempt to be higher, so that the first tier of better luck isn't double luck (2/1 = 1). A very similar system already exists. Many quests have you killing normal opponents for items, and once you have enough, you get a reward for completing the quest, or you use the items to spawn a more difficult opponent.

If you wanted to have only one other mmo in backround when not playing wow would you say ff14 would be best as a giant singleplayer game to dabble with on side? i play a lot of single player rpg outside of being a wow raider. been pondering on dabbling in other mmos but man maintaining a second is def overwhelming. I was considering between SWTOR (love story but game play is meh. Always end up restarting and only getting to chapter 3ish and then forgetting story), ESO (always feel like after playing a bit that sticking with a single player elder scrolls game is best and not gouging me with a shop), Guild Wars 2 (never really dived in), FF14 (long time FF series player, brings a lot to the game and seems most like wow, just REALLY long story to catch up on but maybe worth it). I think about why not play them all! As long time WOW player and teacher if i am gonna dabble one other prolly best. Always feels like Iam missing out not playing all the mmos. Not looking to endgame another MMO but rather single player enjoyment. One of these stand out more or than rest or do I just stick with wow like always with my non mmos on the side lol

Bless unleashed 😌 f2p, everything can be dodged with rly great combat system and visuals, lvling, crafting for each class, tons of spells to choose from + blessings to combine with right spells. What you could ask more FOR FREE. Lot of hate have this game, but funny is it comes only from those with under 1-10 hours of game time 🤣 now i am around 500 hours and still cant wait to play each day. WoW long time player, but this is just better graphics in unreal 4 engine + no pay if you choose to. Try it out for at least 30 hours and let me know. Guys in game chat will always help, not make fun of you, that you are new.

i played Throen and Liberty on the Korean servers thanks to exitlag and a VPN and idk its got some fun aspects to it but the meta leaves you fighting for a tank or heals in dungeons as Crossbow and daggers is the all beit meta for endgame or greatsword daggers but play what you want for sure but you'll be leveling on a crawl and barley getting items or xp as rewards for events if you're using weapons that don't have aoe and fast ttk.. as far as the pay to win yeah you can swipe to get the best stuff off the market or level to 50 do your dailies and get like 3 token type things and get your daily paid currency and if you have 3 lvl 50s can easily build enough swipe currency for free to buy stuff off market but then its down to just rushing content and such to then buy market items to either fule your current gear to scale up or get its trait

Over 2 decades of gameing you say, yeah you look 20 something are you sure you have over 2 decades? Starting playing video games at the age of 4 doesnt count sunshine, you need to be around 14 or older when you actually start to have some self awareness some world knowledge, and a gurverment issued ID ....that is when you start counting your gameing experience not before! I started playing my first video game on one of those casetes thingys i dont know what their called in english that plugged in the tv and i played mario when i was 8 years old, that was my first ever video game and i played lots of different games since then ,even got a saga saturn like a playstation game thingy that you also pluged in to the tv and i played my first CD video game tomb raider and i was like 11 or 12 can't remember exactly. But the reall gameing life for me when i started counting, it was when i turned 14 and whent to the first internet cafe and played the first online multiplayer game counterstike 1.5 then 1.6. then dota 1, then wow, then aion, then jade dynasty, etc etc... now im 36 and i can legit say i have over 2 decades of gameing experience with accounts older then some of you have even been alive! So to hear that you have 2 decades of experience when you are in your 20s... yeah i don't count that as valid. Must be 14 years and older to count in my eyes cause if i ware to also count my gameing experience since i first started, then almost nobody in the world that still plays video games and has been playing everyday since they started can compare themselfs to me in years of experience! Less then 100k players in the entire world ever reached over 20 years of gameing experience and even less then that pressed on gameing everyday even now, they stoped at some point permanently ! So no, you ghost do not have 2 decades of experience, playing lineage when you ware between the age of 2 and 4 years old doesnt count, PERIOD!

Turns out that's boring because what you're really saying is I want to log in and so the same dailies every day for years in between expansions. So, many Mmo players realized that's the reality of being a one-mmo Andy and opted to enjoy the best parts of multiple mmos instead. No wrong or right way to do it, so if mmo dailies are the dream, enjoy!

nowadays most game are open world collection based, raids, actions. But Ragnarok online series have one of the best simplistic combats yet most fun gvg system, despite some p2w versions. Classic - still healthy in many SEA regions and pvp competitions Romel (Eternal love) (mobile/pc) - one of the more recent (released in 2017), still surviving great w many f2p and nice gvg system Ragnarok origins (mobile/pc) - Literally the best version ever, graphics, combat, aesthetics, GVG design and pvp. BUT its the most P2W version, which i can swear its one of the most p2w games ever. ROX - Similar UI to Origins, but to me its just a lousy replica of origins. Almost everything same, but graphics is dreadful. Upcoming there will be a Ragnarok Eternal Love F2P version in beta, 99% of p2w features and aspects will be removed, the final semi p2w is the zeny (currency) which can also be earned easily in game. You might think they're just mobile versions, but almost 90% plays with PC because it acts similarly. The f2p version will be one to look out for. Especially if you like anime mmo. Just search ROO GVG, ROMEL GVG/woc, its insane the gvg the coordination and strats to command a 100-150 guild in a 1 hour war every week twice. Don't have to raid endlessly daily or etc, qol is much better

As always, thanks for the list and information! Yeah I was excited for Ashes of Creation at first, but the more I hear, the less I'm hyped. That and I doubt it'll come out anytime soon anyways. But it's a case of "it's not for me", and that's fine. I'll probably try T&L, but I'm guessing it'll go the same way as every NCSoft game goes for me.. I'll play a month or 2, have fun, hit a paywall or insane grind wall and quit. I'll stick with FFXIV, and keep having spare time to play my backlog of single player games.

Gunna be sticking with ESO. Can't stand most pvp, the community here is less toxic than most, and the lore is good. They love crafting and lets you be social or not but still do end game content.

Why Guild Wars 2 os not yet for consoles is beyond me. PS5 and Series X is way more powerful for that MMO. I understand it needs optimization but is doable. 😔

I didn't even know the Warframe team was working on another type of more fantasy style game that's really awesome thanks for the info!! Long time WoW player, but I think I'm finally done I personally have been really disappointed in WoW retail I think the last really good expansion was Legion so as much as I wanna believe this one will be good I'm ready to hang the hat on them. Even if the story is good the game play is too restrictive per the player base really using addons to exclude other players and it makes the game not fun at all. I been hoping Blizzard would make more cooperative play more rewarding like they do in GW2, but for whatever reason they've allowed the elitism to overtake their game.

Companies thinks to much about profit, and too litle about quality. Never going to play a single Blizzard game after they made Diablo Immortal, and after their many many abuses of their workers and the exploitation of their players.

What about No Rest For the Wicked? I guess it's technically not an MMO per se. Man, New World, I can't stay in it. Idk what it is about the game. It's great, it has tons of the things that MMOs should have. But fk, I just don't want to play it.
