10:38 That seems like a really great solution! My ideas for some categories to add would be: - "Designer" /designed by or something for the person/group that designed it. - Cost (May be hard to calculate (premade vs Off the Shelf (OTS) Bill of Materials (BOM) vs local scrap / used motors etc ) - Throughput (Again may be hard to measure, but perhaps figure some sort of "standardized test" + metric for this) (maybe kg shredded per hour, "X"m^3 beams extruded per hour, and "standard mold x" 's made per hour) - Reliability Rating (Measured in uptime) - Repairability Rating (How easy repairs are, hard to measure, but maybe some form of review system?)

Also could the code or whatever for how you make this system be Open Sourced as well? I think it would be of use for all sorts of other Open Source Hardware Groups!

I think the decision of not adding the community design on the download kit is very good. Also the machine inventory is a very good idea, honestly you are facing some awesome, cutting edge problems on the open source community. The new shredder looks awesome, we already looking forward to upgrade ours!!!!

It would be good to have the ability to tag each machine with specific upgrades (eg. cutter improvement, hopper design, safety upgrade, etc.)

Two suggestions. Firstly, "quality" for rating the contributed designs is a bit ehhh. Maybe rename that to "proof level" or "grade," and rank it on a subjective C- to A+ scale. (And avoid adding things that have zero documentation whatsoever.) Secondly, Odysee is another good place for hosting files. It's primarily meant as a KZbin alternative (eg. for video hosting/streaming, and it can sync your current creator account), but it does allow you to upload non-video content as well as download packs. On the backend, the each upload is effectively backed by a torrent, and the URI for that torrent is written to a blockchain, making it a very free platform - both in the sense that anyone can contribute to hosting the files (sharing costs) and that it is resilient against censorship or takedowns.

I need this amazing shredder for my acrylic business in Fort Lauderdale, FL USA 🌎💚 🙌 Thank you for sharing the concept I think this is excellent! I've reached out to y'all a few months ago about my mission to have a more sustainable acrylic crafting-material business. I look forward to making my business and the acrylic laser-crafting as a whole more eco friendly.

A process to remove label adhesives would be useful. When washing my own (whole, unshredded) plastics for recycling, I used mineral spirits on a rag. Later I found that Fels Naptha on a rag with some soapy water is a cheaper, yet still effective means to remove label adhesives. Perhaps this could be adapted for use with shredded plastics.

Greetings From South Africa I am so inspired by your projects Thank you for Sharing, my wife and I are Bizzy with community development and we would like to partner with you to bring the plastic waste in our city to use, we live along the ocean and there is tonnes of plastic ropes from the sea that arrives at our shores we need your advice on possible ways of converting this waste to products our unemployed youth can work with... Who may I speak to further to start this process... 🙏

One way to reduce plastics would be to make fixing plastic products more possible. I wonder if you guys could come up with a truly decent plastic welder.

maybe add the category country! There are some materials that are available in some places that aren´t easy to find in others. Ex. Measures in inches vs cm make a huge difference when buying materials!

I need to get around to making a wiki page on it eventually, but i think some sort of "standardized test" would be neat to develop (as well as look at / use existing ones, like you did with CE certification etc! No need to reinvent the wheel)
@H2Dwoat
@H2Dwoat 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, are there any plans to make the plastic parts of the CE certified machines out of recycled plastic? I have noticed that many of the spaces make tiles which I assume are mounted to walls. I am wondering if there is a method to mount them that allows the tiles to be readily recycled when they are removed. My concern is mainly contamination of the plastic with adhesive and wall materials.

I watch these videos because I love the idea of being able to melt and reform plastic, but tbh the barriers to getting started are unbelievably steep. Laser cutter? I wouldn’t even know where to find one, let alone have the money for such a specialized machine. To say nothing of all the other metal shop tools like lathes and welding. I guess my point is that there’s a gap between your efforts to democratize plastics, versus the wealth required to participate. The subtext here is: “step one, buy $20,000 worth of tools and somehow learn to use them.” If I’m wrong, please put out a video on how to get past the first hurdle!
@danmorphis7759
@danmorphis7759 3 жыл бұрын
Pretty much any town/city is going to have a machine/CNC shop where you can get the parts cut at. No need to buy one yourself.
@twestgard2
@twestgard2 3 жыл бұрын
@@danmorphis7759 That would be a good video topic. How to acquire the parts. Do you just take the drawings in to a fabrication shop? And what is that going to cost? I’ve hired a fab shop in the past and it was thousands of dollars for some door parts that seemed pretty simple to me. The customer, who is quite wealthy, didn’t proceed with the design because of the price.

@@twestgard2 They have an entire Academy dedicated to babystepping someone through this process. Your statement is inaccurate, rude and a huge disservice to the effort that the PP team put into developing their content and program. A simple search of their site would have brought this up. Your first hurdle isn't "buy 20k worth of tools" it's "develop basic research skills that can save you having to buy 20k worth of tools". community.preciousplastic.com/academy/build/shredder
@twestgard2
@twestgard2 3 жыл бұрын
@@rexy9687 lol, I went to your link, read the page, and watched the video, not for the first time. The “Tools & Skills” section requires a lot, but it’s the video that really nails down the point. Go through that video and identify and price the equipment that gets used. It adds up. And then the skills, which are not just operating at least one type of welder on thick and thin steel, and a lathe, but finding and choosing a scrap motor with functioning gearbox, and cables the correct size for that. Etc. Or you can buy it all new, but then the price is a lot more. You can be defensive if you want, but PP is trying to democratize plastics recycling, and IMO they are not thinking enough about the barriers to entry when they shoot these videos. Defensiveness doesn’t help the project, whereas identifying things that can be improved does help. 🤷‍♂️

Hi one army team. I am based in India. And I have huge pile of plastic footwear waste. Which are seldom used for remanufacturing of footwear. As I am into plastic footwear we do buy the plastic from local vendors. But don't have any machine to recycle them shred and make them to be reused complete to manufacture footwear ... Kindly guide how to contact u ppl as it will help global to reduce the production of fresh plastic dump As recycle will help to curb the global problem. ... For a little info about myself I am a biomedical engg and by passion and father's business i got involve into this segment My next goal is to make the recycle footwear to be completely biodegradable. ... Honestly; in the USA we need a way to mechanically BOTTLE the shreds, so that we can swiftly pack bottle-bricks / eco-bricks (pura-vida model) from the great abundance of plastics Americans use. Can the United Nations PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE assist you / all in designing a "shredder-bottler" combo mechanism as well? The shred-condensed bottle -bricks can easily be consumed/encapsulated by use in decorative fencing and highway sound barriers, as well as playscapes and portable outbuildings/camp structures. No melting or fumes/emissions are even necessary... It would truly all be so much more awesome IF the Yurt and the Base Camp had both been built using at least SOME examples of mechanized advancement of all the existing best-practices from the Bottle-Brick/Eco-Brick Community as well.... Practice what you preach, and all...
