Picking , combining , shelling , grinding , and cutting corn are all very separate tasks we use to refer to harvesting corn. As we cut it whole stall n chop it at the silo for silage. Pick ear corn for shelling later. Combining would be shelled corn. Also grind ear corn for high moisture at silo as well.

Cutting it is. I grew up in western Kansas and that’s all we did. When I started farming in northeast Kansas on my own farm I was puzzled that everyone on the other side of the state turned a noun into a verb. They are all “going out to combine a while and see if it is dry”. You, in fact, are CUTTING!

I'm 71 years young, thats what we called the harvest in the late 50's and 60's .Iv'e even husked or picked corn by hand.My Grand father picked all his corn by hand.stared farming for himself in 1918 oh by the do you have a galon of wheat I could buy.
