As someone that worked in Federal government for 30 years, I understand the hesitation. He had to determine all the angles that things could go including out of context clips. The hesitation is not 'deer in headlights', it's calculated thought and risk management decision making. People that haven't been in that situation have no f'n clue.

The facts are facts. Iowa taxpayers paid for a fertilizer plant to keep prices competitive. The fantastic people at Koch Industries is trying to buy the plant for $3.6 billion. Of course if they are successful they absorb a competitor and the farmers fertilizer costs will go even higher. So their only hope is that the president the Millennial Farmer despises and let’s his kid wear a shirt degrading will recommend it is a violation of anti trust laws and the courts will block the sale. That won’t happen if Trump is elected. So yeah it kinda pisses me off when your Dad wears a shirt asking for support but you trash the people that can help and are actually being supportive.

Friend of Mine also a farmer here in Germany, said t his local member of the Bundestag (German parliament) if you want to talk to farmers do the following: take 2 two weeks of. Bring a pencil and a piece of paper with you go to the farmers and talk to them. Write down what they say and leave all the cameras and journalists behind you. And if you are back in Berlin, take all your notes and what you have learned and do your fucking job. Make politics for the people you stand for.

I don’t know the demographics of your viewership but I suspect the majority is rural midwest. I’m a retired suburban guy that holds a high respect for independent farmers. My current political leanings don’t align to most of your viewers but after a career of traveling the world and meeting all types of people, I’ve learned that we are more alike than different. As I see it, you have three options. You can avoid outside views and continue to provide your views of politics subtly or more directly, try to provide various views equally, or completely stay away from these issues. Your stated mission is to build a connection between farms and consumers. In these times, that connection is really important and you are knocking it out of the park. Zach, you know you’ve reached a level of broadcast success when there are politicians and celebrities vying to be with you in front of your camera. Here’s the best advice I can give you, my young friend, do what is your heart and gut that tells you is right and disregard what outsiders try to get you involved in if it doesn’t fit right with you. I'm an independent and enjoy this channel to understand the life of a farmer, in today's climate of consolidating larger and larger farms. Watching the life and challenges of a hard working family is refreshing. Zach's obviously a MAGA fan, and I detest Trump, but it's important to understand good people can agree on most issues, without becoming tribal. Politics is not in the top 10 things I concern myself with on a daily basis. I'd assume the same is true for Zach.

I wouldn't presume Zack is a MAGA fan. There is a huge chunk of this country (dare we say the majority...) that is fed up with politics and the absolutely terrible choice we have in candidates for 2024. I'd venture to guess that Zack and his family fall into that broad "middle". For the record, if my governor (NY) showed up at our farm asking for a chat, I'd make my thoughts crystal clear about the decisions she's made that are directly impacting family farms...then I'd go back to work.

@@TheGeorunner I join you as part of the majority being fed up with our choices. I'm not fan of Biden either, as no one on that side was presented a choice. The choice was made for them by the party elites, via a messed up system. Trump on the other hand did win his delegates via voters. There was a choice there. I respect Zach's decision to be wary of the governor using his channel. It would be both flattering and scary at the same time. I wonder, if the Governor was a Republican, if Zach would have a different opinion? Seems like that call from the Governor's handler had a predicted outcome, to make a point. I still hold with my intuition that he has a MAGA hat hidden in his closet somewhere. lol Doesn't change my opinion of him. He seems like a good dude, able to make reasoned, pragmatic decisions.

Geez, these comments are insane and simply stupid. Just invite the guy out, but tell him beforehand that he has no say about the video, you can cut whatever you want from it, and if you don't like how it goes, you can even scratch the entire video. Everybody is assuming the governor wants to use your channel for marketing, but maybe he's just looking for more insight into farming and he just chose you because he has the ability to see what you're about before he even meets you. Just because he's a governor doesn't mean it has to be political. Also, American politics sucks even worse than regular politics. Americans are really good at just shooting down everything that has any link to the "opposing" party, and not even be willing to hear them out, which simply is the stupidest thing you can ever do. Just because you don't agree in general doesn't mean you can't agree on specific things. Oh, and about not wanting to be recorded: These guys are trained to not want to be recorded. Why? Because every single thing gets cut up and used out of context these days. No matter what you say, good editing can make it look like you said the exact opposite thing. Politicians know that, and want to avoid that as much as possible, which I can definitely understand.
