“Amber waves of grain”. What a beautiful song, what a beautiful sight! When I was 20, my brother (24) and I ran 3 farms for the summer due to family and neighbor health issues. 2 herd of dairy cows AM and PM, 7 days a week, about a 750 acres of WI hay, oats and corn (no beans), but our neighbor had great equipment, we knew we could do it and God took care of us. Harvesting grain was the fun part.😊 Needless to say I’m not to sympathetic when people complain about how hard their 40 hour job is.

I’ve driven Duramaxes for the past 14 years. Never had an engine problem. I use my trucks for everything from spreading fertilizer, hauling equipment, run back and forth to town a gozillion times, and make 2-3 cross country hunting and fishing trips each year. Probably 25% of the mileage (170 K on current 2012,) is on gravel roads. I clean my air filter every other month. I’ve had to replace all glow plugs now, and had to replace my DEF tank once, probably due to a bad batch of Blue DEF. I did the glow plugs 4 at a time because getting to them makes it sensible. I only wish diesel fuel was cheaper and that DEF wasn’t required. I’ll probably look hard at a gas truck next to see if the economics look more favorable.

I called Guam the other day NOT LONG DISTANCE

Randall Weaver , no! Party line telephone, usually 3-4 houses on the same telephone line, each house had a specific ring pattern, if you wanted to make a call and picked up the phone and someone else was on the line you had to wait until they were done. Of course it was rude to listen to someone else’s call, it was also rude to tie up the line for a long time.

Always interesting to see what yields are like elsewhere. In my neck of the woods(central North Carolina), 60 bushel wheat would be considered a relatively poor crop; most guys around here average 90-95 bushels, with a few fields even getting to 100+. Double crop beans can be hit or miss due to the heat and lack of rain sometimes, though most guys hope for 50-60 bushel beans. Also, kind of surprised that you're not going with a dirtymax. 😛
