Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

In the spring of 1985, I worked the farm fields for the last time. I just finished two 80 acre fields and was just going to stop at the next one but I wanted to do one last round. I'm not going to lie, it was emotional. I had a sense of pride, elation and a bit of sadness all at once. When I walked away from that tractor that last time, I knew in my heart it was going to be last time. I sure do miss it.

I had to devote my remaining life to my wife's aliment who has lewy body dementia requiring 24 7 care. I am currently in the Philippines home caring her with live in caregiver have been at it 8 long years now. In it for the durations.

My brother just retired from farming... He started buying farm land at 14 yrs old...thats all he ever wanted to do , farm. It wasnt my thing , but we did lease river bottom for 5 yrs to grow corn.. It was very hard work.. No fancy tractors & planters back then...open cabs & mechanical planters ... But they worked well... After the 5 yrs lease my brother bought the 600 acres . I thought he was crazy ! But...he made it pay . He really did well when he got into raising beef...he fed them from his land & sold excess corn & hay.. Anyway...he started selling his land back 5 yrs ago... He sold his last 1200 acres this yr ... Must say , he retired in comfort.. All those yrs of land & equipment payments seemed like an insane amount of debt .. But he bought most of his land in the 80's & at todays prices he made out very well... Both of his kids are lawyers & had no interest in farming... He bought 80 acres in Montanna about 5 yrs ago & built a cabin on it .. Thats where he retired & loves it... He'll be 63 in August & he said he wanted just enough acres to not feel penned in... Good luck to you sir...

I have been praying for all you farmer's, last year was bad for a lot of you guy's, especially those of you who had the storm damage. I like seeing onyx out there, and am really interested in seeing him drive that new rig for your other channel. I'm a generation older than you millenials, but as a kid i learned to drive while helping out on my grandpa's farm, by the time i was able to get my driving permit at 15 i already had several year's experience. Some people may not approve, but by the time onyx is ready to drive on the road with his license, he will be a much better driver than other kid's who will just be learning for the first time. You do a good job with him, because he will call you if he thinks there might be trouble where he's been driving the tractor, but drives like heck out on the track, and does well. Y'all are doing some good work raising your kid's. G-d bless.

Hey Zach, I've seen ALOT of your videos going back and watching 3+ years worth to get a sense of farming, since my family has 400 acres in IL. But I, nor anyone in my family farms it, or has any expirence farming, but it does get farmed. Could you make a video on what it takes to be a land owner and what to look for in a share-cropper or land renter or what it takes to make a solid profit on a farm? Thanks!

Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable. Busy busy time trying to finish your corn planting in between the rains. You got the corn done for 2023!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!! Now switch the planter over for soybeans and on to soybean planting. Go get em!!!! Having Onyx for that extra hand is good. Lots of farm kids help at planting and harvest time versus school time. Too muddy to get the dully out of the field. Should be able to move it in a couple of days. Little amount of rain makes a difference in a field. Guess that is it for now. Take care and be safe. Thanks for everything Zach and Dad and Onyx. Did we lose Jim!!!! Bye. The Iowa Farm Boy. Steve.

I'm from Brazil, comparing your agriculture with ours, I think it's amazing how wet your soil is. Tractors have to have tracks to be able to work, otherwise they get stuck. Here our soil is much drier, the tractors on the tire can handle any soil, even just 1 day after a rain. Not to mention the difference in equipment, the difference in currency and purchasing power always screwing us over. For example, my father, he has a 2016 massey ferguson 4292 tractor with a manual transmission, which cost R$200,000.00 reais (Brazilian currency). Today it costs R$316,000.00. If we compare 1 real to 1 dollar, you would pay 316 thousand dollars for an intermediate tractor. This difference is ridiculous.

Worst part of getting the dually stuck in mud is now it's packed between the tires and you have to dig it out. LOL

If you get the dually out of the field before the mud dries..... and drive at 60mph.... the mud flings itself out....

The farmers up in North Dakota are just going with planting. So much more snow up there and lots of water standing in the fields

Now all we need is some rain sometime in the spring or summer. Any rain at all would be nice. We don't need a repeat of last year.

I can tell how you interact with your son you are a good father. My question is, what do farmers do while waiting for the crops to grow.

Surprised you don't have a split row planter like a lot of the big operators have. Or just a totally separate unit for your beans like Larsons have.

That don’t work down here in the cities. You leave your house unlocked, on the way home you can wave at it going bye on the flatbed.
