My Dad the Farmer turned Jet Mechanic always said that any engineer who aspired to design a piece of machinery should be sentenced to maintain it for two years as part of the prototyping process.

When changing the oil filter….I fill it as full as I can…I also use clean oil to lube the seal..old oil has high concentration of contaminants and can break down the seal.. fuel I fill it 1/4 full of transmission fluid (high detergent) then 3/4 fuel…cleans the injectors out real nice…

Funny that 'not level front to back problem' still exists despite all the sophistication of tractors and implements now. Its 35 years since I sat on a tractor doing this exact same job here in the UK. In fact, I saw someone driving a tractor with an implement on a levelling soil out yesterday on our local horse racing course and I turned to my wife and said the front coulters are not doing the work that the back coulters are doing because the top linkage needs shortening. I only needed 10 seconds to figure that out. You never lose the skills. 😉

Sometimes when the oil is draining, I'll take a center punch and punch a hole in the bottom of the filter and near the top, as a breather, and catch the oil out of the filter. It avoids the mess when it tends to run over the top while unscrewing the filter. Although you still need a straight shot down to the bucket for this to work. Or a cardboard 'funnel' to direct it away from obstacles.

Best suggestion I have for not making a mess when changing filters is drill or punch a hole with a nail as close to the bottom as possible. Then you know exactly where the fluids gonna come out or if there's space use a small funnel with a hose right to your catch pail

Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable. Your field at the shooting range is quite a ways away. We had a field like that and travel time took up a lot of our time. In our case we had to go thru a small town. Took quite a bit to adjust that tillage machine. Now it seems to do a great job. Nice to have that other tractor run aside from you so you can see what it is doing to the ground. Good way to get it set. Very nice tillage piece of equipment. Does a great job. Planting will be going soon I believe you said. Couple day. I am surprised you ground dried up that soon. Wow. Time to put seed in the ground. Go time. Got your oil and filters changed out. Always a big job. The size difference on the Deere motors amazes me. Same tractor but bigger or smaller motor. Hard to keep track of. Maintenance is always important. About it I guess.
