Another great video Zach. I never fail to notice how you have really found your “on screen” personality through the course of making these videos. You’re a born communicator. Again, being a city boy the business aspects of running a successful farming operation always intrigue me as much as the actual farming, a part of the business that I don’t believe non-farmers think too much about. Hopefully over the winter months you can maybe give us city folk a little primer in what it takes to run a profitable farm in regards to forecasting the commodities markets, capital expenses, etc. Thanks for letting us hang out with ya.

Very educational video for the none farmer. Loyal Deere guy. I have a Deere in my lobster boat a new one. 750 hp. Marine. Wicked torque. 25 gallons an hour on fuel. It’s not green though. It’s yellow. But still a Deere

All your videos have something in them that has educated me on the life of the farmer. I love all of them, you are a natural talent at this vlogging business. This one however really grabbed me when you mentioned that your family has been farming that land for 140 years and now it's your turn. I'll bet all the ills suffered in this country would be greatly reduced if that sense of family importance was restored to what it once was. Looking at the condition of your equipment, the buildings you store them in, your fields, and areas around the utility buildings, all bespeak the pride you and your father and family have for that farm. Everything is in good and immaculate order. Very impressive, this country could learn a great deal from you! Thanks for the video! Waynes World, Party on!!

I understand how important it is to farm family land. I’m so proud that my 17 year old son has started farming on his own. It was fun to watch the teller at the bank when he was depositing his check for his lima beans. Good stuff. Lots of traffic here. We have stoplights and lots of cars driving our rural roads. Sometimes it takes 10 plus minutes to make a right turn out of the ranch. I’m jealous of the area you farm but not the cold.

do you ever get an airline out on that dryer to get it cleaner presuming a quick shovel out is good enough ? Combine washing : we 100% blow down last day and fully grease up, we wash down and polish a week before harvest on a hot day then run it for a bit to get any moisture away from bearings. Really interesting to see how you do things out there in the wild west ( west to me )

first step to solve poor running diesel engines when it is cold outside is to change the fuel filters. you can also add some cold season blended fuel to the tank and let it circulate . we used to add pure anhydrous ethanol at a rate of about a pint to quart per 200 gallon tank. not measured we filled a gallons jug from the barrel and dumps some in . I remember counting glugs, we ran a fleet of 2000 trucks and ethanol was the only fuel additive approved. I am sure that any fuel issue would have been met with a change of policy.

If you really want a fun job you should try cleaning the concrete off the fins on the inside of a concrete mixer drum with an air chisel on a hot humid summer day. You have to wear ear plugs because the hammering on the steel will deafen you. Also, you have to wear goggles as the dust is so thick, but then the goggles steam up constantly and you can't see anyway. But you don't dare punch through the drum wall with the air chisel or else it will be your last job with the company. Oh yeah, lots of fun. LOL. The only good thing about working for a concrete company was quitting time and layoff time in the winter.

What a terrible job cleaning the dryer. Just throwing out the idea because it’s what I used to do with the dryer my old job had which was a Sukup as well. It wasn’t perfect but when you fire up the dryer everyday, if you open the clean-out door with the fans on, it actually blows a lot of the bees wings and corn dust out to where you won’t have hardly anything left at the end of harvest. Again, just throwing the idea out. Not trying to be a troll. Just trying to help a fellow farmer out.

Zach, isn't there some sort of vacuum you could build with a cyclone on it for cleaning and sucking up grain. I realize you can go all out on a municipal vacuum setup but I would think something could be built that would save you a ton of work inside and outside the dryer.

Dude thanks for doing this channel - We had to sell our farm in SK Canada when my dad passed away - I knew i wasn't going to take over the farm but im surprised how much i miss everything from harvest to picking rocks. Anyways this channel gives all me those nostalgia feels without the pain of the hard work !! hahaha We used case equipment all our life but honestly i asked my dad and he said you know its not really about the colour its about the relationships and we have a great relationship with our Case dealer. I can see you guys have an amazing relationship with your john deer dealership ! Its cool to see that and yes they all break down just the same :)

Have you tried placing mats (or tarps) under the grain dryer so when you do clean it you can use the mats to drag out all the stuff and then place that on the machine and move it? Might be easier than going underneath with a shovel. Just a thought.

I think it would be nice for john Q Public to actually see what it takes in the way of your production costs are! The investment in equipment alone is staggering, plus the cost of getting it in the ground and then Harvesting it! All the in between costs alone would make one shutter! Farming is a big crap shoot, a lot of work and Planning and especially Family goes into raising a crop and make a go of it that a lot of people don't realize! In my area finding seasonal help is very hard, a lot of growth make's it hard to match wages and get help that doesn't tear up equipment etc.! A lot of good luck from Mother Nature, Long hours and Hard Work and a lot of Prayers go into being successful in the Farming Business! Being a retired farmer I enjoy your Video's very much! Throw some number's at some of these city slicker's and give them something to think about, open some eyes as to what it takes these days to put food on their table! It's for sure not all about hauling truck loads of money to the Bank every Fall!

Good stuff Zach,I learned a little more today.Would it be better to use the leaf blower inside the grain drier??.I know that you would need to wear 🎧👂hearing protection, plus goggles for the 👀 eyes, but it should do a much better job of cleaning then the shovel. Now,about the W-900,it almost sounds like it's so sort of fuel problem,it's not cold enough for diesel fuel to jell up though, possibly not enough fuel pressure from the injector pump?.

I had a 1963 Case diesel frontloader at the horse barn that had a heated element on the water jacket. With a blanket over the hood and 2 feet of snow on that it started faster and easier than in the summer! That motor was WARM BEING PLUGGED IN.
