My favorite, of Spike’s. To me, the movie is perfection. The acting, cinematography, the storyline, and, of course… That music. Oh, that music. Blended so seamlessly…it just has to happen where and when it does. I could go on and on about this one. It definitely lives in a small place in my heart and mind. And of course it brings me back to more innocent times in my life.

This film does not portray real people nor their interactions realistically nor believably, it deals with archetypes. In this regard, it is more like a mythology of jazz, or like a Shakespeare play, then filtered through Spike Lee's urbane perspective and style, his bravura editing and explosions of color. And all that bebop always bubbling through the background! What a feast.

I played Alto Saxophone from 7th Grade through the 12th Grade. Middle School was Band Director Mr. Bonpanni and High School was Band Director Mr. Egerton.
