Yeah, it’s wayyy too soon for a Moana remake. In my honest opinion, while this project has probably been in development for a while, I do think when they announced it is telling. I think Johnson is scared about the reports/rumors about his ego on Black Adam sinking both it and Shazam!: Fury of the Gods hurting his reputation/image and wanted to quick distract people (even if that article came out a couple weeks ago). This definitely seems like something that he’s spearheading, given that he’s producing it through his production company. I will say the angle of having both of the original actors come back to reprise their roles in the remake *is* interesting, but honestly, as much as I love Moana, it’s not one I can see translating well to live action. If Disney wants to remake a real epic adventure story, they should do one of Atlantis

There are still plenty of folktales and fairy tales you haven't done yet, not to mention novels, short stories, plays and poems in the public domain. Then you'll have more animated films that you can use as the basis for more live action remakes.

The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan were announced in 2016 and the films are only now being released 7 years later. Based on this, the Moana and Encanto live action movies would probably come sometime near 2030.

The film was revealed to be in very early production in 2016, but wasn't officially announced like this until 2020. Traditionally an announcement like this only happens once script, filmmakers, designs are in place and cameras are practically ready to film. If reports are true - the movie aims to begin filming by the end of the year.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde had two different film versions about a decade apart from each other. One staring Frederick March and the remake with Spencer Tracy. Each one is very good in their own ways, so I think a live-action Moana has potential, no matter if it’s barley a decade after the original.

The MAJOR difference, however, is that in the early years, movies were made for exhibition once and then often tossed aside. Occasionally studios would also remake a popular film 10 or so years later in attempt to make it “better” with new tech (cinema RAPIDLY developed in the early years with innovations in sound; visual effects; film, camera, lense technology etc.) The case of J&H is a bit trickier, however… Paramount’s 1931 film (an Oscar winner!) was acquired by MGM because they wanted to remake it themselves and make it better. MGM then hid the film in their vaults so no one could see it, and avoid competition with their 1941 remake. In fact, the 1931 version was considered “lost” until the late 1960s because of this. Movies were, obviously, not as accessible as they are now. Whereas today, we can readily access originals and remakes, back then it was quite literally a case of REPLACING the original with something new, with generations passing where audiences could not see a particular version.

The thing that's really disappointing about this is I REALLY wanted a Maui spinoff movie. Maybe a prequel. Something about his ascension and fall. I'd imagine it would be a little simiar to Hercules and all, but it's a film that just screams to be made. When Disney announced those three sequels, there REALLY should have been Moana sequel/spinoff instead of TS5. It was a big money maker, why not an animated follow up? I really like The Rock and all, but sometimes his ego's a bit much. This seems like something he lobbied Disney for, something he turned Black Adam into. A passion project. I still think he's the reason Black Adam and his dog appeared at the post credits scene after Superpets.

How would that work? They would be weird CG frogs for most of the movie, anthropomorphic animals don't really work in live action that well, except for The Jungle Book, which is why they normally avoid using the animal sidekicks in the remakes. At least Hei Hei and Pua don't do much, Moana had that advantage.

Odd power play from Johnson sounds about right. The Disney remakes are pretty hit or miss as far as they go, and I’d be fine with seeing a Moana remake 20 years from now, but this feels like the Rock trying to recapture the audience’s love by rehashing an already beloved performance. Sad to see a guy with genuine charisma and some decently interesting performances under his belt continue down this weird exersize in self inflation he’s been on for the past few years.

I think I'm not going to talk about of a live-action remake of Disney's The princess and the Frog But I seen the original Disney animated version of The princess and the Frog but not like the live-action remake.

Despite how disappointing the lion king 2019 remake one, I’m look forward to seeing what they do with the upcoming mufasa prequel movie. His backstory deserves to be fleshed out more wherever possible.

I just don’t get how we are getting Zootopia and Frozen sequels, yet this will be a remake. Give us a Moana 2!

I think disney is losing there MARBLES over there with theses live action movies, at first it was fun and interesting now it’s getting to a point where EVERY single one of there movies will be treated with the live action remake of it, not all movies have to be LIVE ACTION i have no idea what is going over there, they already released a slate of animated sequels like Toy Story, Frozen and Zootopia, what’s next there gonna be given the live action treatment, heaven to bid if they do a live action Toy Story they have completely ruined my childhood already if they did that. I do NOT understand WHY they have to remake Moana it is a perfect film nothing is wrong with it, just please leave MOANA ALONE and all the other animated movies, they don’t need a live action remake. This is probably gonna hurt the brand of disney to be honest and there animation diversion all those poor animators who work hard on Thoses animated movies and someone says we are gonna make them all into live actions and i am like what the F***. I just don’t understand the POINT of this. Disney needs to go back to the drawing board or someone NEEDS to talk to disney saying this is ridiculously!
