One of the best thing about mob psycho is that instead of building your character around a specific power , the show twist the powers around a character to put them in more complex and interesting situations

His 100% doesn't deflate because the emotion he feels is different. In his fight against Suzuki he went from 100% Anger, to 100% Ecstacy, to 100% Shame, to 100% Resignation, to 100% Courage. Its in the manga but anime just doesn't show the emotions because it would break up the flow of the fight. Then in the case of Dimple he doesn't deflate because he feels a different emotion its because the effect of 100% Trust is letting go of his psychic powers which were a hindrance to him talking with Dimple.

I like to think that the number percent that goes up is due to mobs conflicting emotions. Every time he is confused or does not know how to proceed, or has the desire to protect but still wants to keep his powers in check it goes up. Once it is at 100% the current emotion mob has manifested its power differently.
@fatmax2spew1402 жыл бұрын
It's been shown multiple times that the number IS actually his emotional state. Spoiler alert In his first fight against dimple (and multiple others) it's 100% rage, after he destroyed teruki's school it's 100% sadness, against mogami it's 100% happiness It's not only a way to show what emotional state mob is at, it's also a way to tell the viewers "look out shit's about to go down"

The only thing I think you got wrong here is that Mob's power does not increase proportionally to his percentage. Instead, he has a single power level until his emotions run too high and his dam breaks, sending out a deluge of power. Afterwards, he is often physically drained because he straight up uses his entire power reservoir. 100% has nothing to do with using his full power and everything to do with not holding back and letting an emotion fuel his power.
@brendandangelo7152 жыл бұрын
Second, Mob's percentage does not go down when he feels a new emotion. It's the amount of emotional stress he is under. So all emotions slowly whittle away at the wall. It is the last emotion that powers the stage. This is clearly seen in the 6th episode of this season when Mob goes 100% Trust. The power goes away because he gives up the 100% state in his trust, not that his emotions shift and bring him back to 0. His percentage returns to 0 only when he finally bursts. The manga makes this way more clear.
@MechaKnuckles Жыл бұрын
@@brendandangelo715 Yes, the percentage is a stress counter. The emotion connected to the 100% once the dam breaks is simply the emotion that caused the last push which finally broke the dam. Or you could say the emotion that causes 100% Mob is the straw the breaks the camel's back.

Another example of power derived from the thoughts of others is the urban legends in season two. Both their experience and their power is derived from collective thought. Mob was stronger against the Dragger because he didn't have any preexisting fears related to it.

From my own perspective, the power source of Espers derives from their own emotions, Mob is different, we dont see any other person like him, as a kid who has dealt with the guilt and pain of seeing his loved ones suffer, he has negated his own personal feelings ever since then, hence why he has a plethora of Psychic raw power, it all sources from his years of negating his own emotions. And as what we've seen with that brocolli thing, it gained its own conciousness so my theory of Esper source deriving from ones emotions checks out. What makes Mob different from other Espers is that most espers have been using their emotions freely since birth, never locking it within themselves. As for so long has mob locked his emotions, it gained its own emotions, slowly accumulating Psychic Raw Power. Also why the '???%' is not the mob we all love and appreciate. Its the locked up emotions that mob himself since childhood, the memories and emotions that was caused by his brother getting bullied, loved ones getting hurt. One last thing to add, Reigen recieved Mob's 100% power, Reigen seemed the most him at that time, he used his own set of mental skills, as well as an insane amount of esper energy at the same time. Reigen uses his own emotional value, hence why he fools everyone around him, he uses his own kind of Esper power that came from mob.
@june9914Ай бұрын
A slight tweak, but psychic power seems more derived from repressed emotions rather than emotions outright. A lot of claw members are shown as emotionally stunted and tend two be outcasts that bottle up their anxieties. Serizawa is an extreme example, but mogami (who bottled up his rage and frustration at the world until it killed him) and toichiro (who repressed all the emotions of pushing away his son and wife + gets called out four having a middle school mindset) are also part of this. Ofc, some people are gifted with varying strengths of powers, but it can be magnified

1 of the brilliant things writing wise is that psychic powers are made stronger through repressed emotions, which means the psychically strongest are also the most emotionally weak. Sure they might have emotional barriers and try and stop themselves from feeling and changing, but once that’s broken they can usually get some sense knocked intwo them. This makes most confrontations more about characterization and empathy rather than might making right, and this greatly expands the amount of conflicts ONE can work with, since standing up four someone against some ‘friends’ who don’t value their hobbies is just as if not more tense than fighting a giant plant monster.

I find it really odd that the term "Esper" is seen more in more Eastern based media than Western based media.
@aeaeeaoiauea2 жыл бұрын
As someone atheist who doesn't believe in the supernatural, I noticed that too and I've always wondered why. Based on the animes that I've seen, it seems like a term that is used for what are basically magic users, but in a scientific setting. I've seen esper powers been referred to as supernatural powers, but from what I've seen it's not meant to be related to magic at all, and is usually associated with scientific experimentation or more generally scientific stuff. I couldn't really find the history of this term on Wikipedia, but I've read some stuff on ontology, which has a lot of stuff about debating the existence of the supernatural. There's the view that only physical stuff exist and supernatural things like souls aren't real, called physicalism/materialism/naturalism, the view that the physical world is an illusion and all that really exists is the mind/soul, called idealism/mentalism, and the view that both physical stuff and supernatural stuff exist, called dualism. There was a survey that studied the beliefs of those who were religious and non-religious. Apparently, almost all non-religious people in the west agree that the supernatural doesn't exist, while non-religious people from the east actually think that the supernatural does exist. Because of this, I think the term "Esper" is more popular in the east because in the west, people think that supernatural stuff has nothing to do with science and is based on religion, while in the east, people think that science does not disprove the supernatural. The term "Esper" is then used for supernatural things that are based on science.
@thenixer209 Жыл бұрын
@@aeaeeaoiauea Esper is actually ESPer; a person who uses extrasensory perception (ESP-er). The reason the term is used more in the east for different concepts is probably because ESP is a broader term that could have other sources instead of just psychic, such as magic or spiritism. Which to be fair, Mob Psycho does imply are more linked than first impressions might indicate, as it's not really sci-fi in its portrayal of psychics as much as it is mysticism.
