it's sickening to see the way the game is manipulating their players by preying on their sense of needing to help their friends and protecting your group, developing and fostering this sense of obligation to others that nice and considerate people, who find themselves falling into the game world, feel like they cannot leave behind without letting down their friends. Disgusting

Raid Shadow Legends is one of the most predatory games out there. Every time you leave a menu, a popup to buy things comes up. EVERY TIME. Also, when you are a new player, the prices are cheaper so that new players are willing to put a couple hundred dollars into the game before feeling like the prices are ridiculous. By then, they're already invested into the game and don't want to leave.

@@GameQuitters I'm glad you were able to find someone to talk about these kind of games with. I've spent probably $100k over the last 11 years or so just in moving from one to another, after "wipeouts," like what was talked about in this video.

turn off notifications for that game
@infiniteaaron
@infiniteaaron Жыл бұрын
@@UNMEASURED100 Really? You think that gets rid of all of the popups and I hadn't already tried that? I tend to turn off notifications for games or anything as soon as possible. It doesn't seem like that is something so simple to fix the issue. Regardless, I won't be going back to playing it if I am able to help it.

MAN can I relate. I too am an older woman (older than both of you, probably) who has to be VERY mindful of how much time I spend on mobile games. When I started spending money on them that’s when I knew I had to quit (again; I’ve quit before). I *only* spent a couple hundred though and I equated it to going to the casino: it’s play money so I’m gonna play with it! The problem is: it’s your phone and it’s with you pretty much ALL the time, even when nobody is around. It is super easy to find yourself in the situations you both describe. Thank you for sharing your stories!

I know what it was like to have a game as the first thought on your mind in the morning and the last thought you think about at the end of day. I did get so hooked that I drove my car and played the game over an eight-year addiction.

I have come here because over the last 15 years I've had this addiction. Even older games I still log in to replenish the shield. I've realized how unhealthy it is. I don't even want to say how much I've spent =( Sad that they pry on our addiction/dopamine.

Wow that story was very touching for me! I used to play War Robots on my phone and it was P2W just like Evony and i relate way more than i should to this. But even though i have quit War Robots now and don't plan on coming back, i still struggle to stay off games. Thanks for the amazing story and i hope more people who are struggling with these kinds of games (like me) hear this message.

WB and game.of thrones conquest is bad like that too. Dozens of people spending 10k a day in several kingdoms. One guy died recently and his family has a gofundme for them which is sad in so many ways. His little girls could have used the 200k he dumped into his fake castle.

Good job, Abby. I think I'm seeing in people who are working to extricate themselves from gaming the energy that they have and really want to put towards improving their own and others' lives when they talk and type. Even the 'best' games seem to put a damper on this. Thanks for putting out the videos, Cam.

It's so insidious because as soon as the social aspect comes in and the spending becomes normalised, you just spend because other people are doing it and it seems normal... but you are burning your money without realising 😢

Yeah I was in a similar position as Abby 3 years ago, playing Empires and Puzzles on my phone. The alliance I was in eventually promoted me to a leader, as I took the time to learn the mechanics of the game; I even joined their community forum and became a community moderator myself, I made a whole thread cataloguing all the possible status effects in game so all players would have as a reference. Eventually I started spending a bit of money here and there too in game, and within that first year I developed problematic behavior; play the game first thing in the morning, I was inattentive to my wife's needs, playing it at work autobattling easy levels just so that I can still keep up with the grind with my attention half-split and my work output suffering. That game was very much so the big priority for me, and it consumed my life. 2 years went by and my first child was born, and I even neglected time with him for that game... that was the wake-up call for me that it was time to quit. I really abhor what mobile gaming has become. I still remember a time when we just had simple games like Cut the Rope, the kind that you actually bought and downloaded, and presented a fun and complete experience. Fat chance of finding games like that now on the Play Store or App Stores now; it's all the same games cannibalizing each other with ads, microtransactions, subscriptions, random loot... and that has started leaking into console and PC games too, worst of all.

This story reminds me of lineage 2. An MMORPG of the 2000s. The game made you grind for materials to craft armor and the success rate for a craft was like 60%. And each time you died you would lose XP , even lose a level, which would slow you down from achieving max lvl. It was such a grind trap for the younger me...

I´ve noticed even DuoLingo has microtransactions so whenever I hop on for my daily Japanese lesson and I fail one, it immediately suggests buying a chest of some sort. Although I kinda get that DuoLingo developers probably put a lot of effort into a free and relatively high quality language learning app, they could´ve done it differently. By focusing on premium for example, but the whole loot chest copycat that you find in highly addictive, worthless mobile apps is just extremely disappointing.

I started call of dragons that is so close to what Abby mentioned. It's been 5 months now that I'm playing it . I'm completely f2p didn't spent anything at all , i played at least 8 hours a day. There are some troops tires that you should upgrade also technologies , some technologies take 120 days to goes from 9/10 to 10/10 . My troops are T4 and if i want to make them T5 i should spend 700k gems or it takes 2.5 years to reach that, but i saw some whails did reach T5 in nearly first 2 days . As f2p there is no fun for us cause i can't beat any one and don't have any damage compare spenders . Long story short i don't want to turn this 5 months to 5 years i already so sad and regret about this 150 days that trashed . Is it too late to quit? What about those 150 days gone? 😢

hey such a nice and inspiring video i was playing a game when this video notification has come out and after watching i instatlny uninstalled it, but i was confused that how much money she actually spend on the account as in the title it is written 50k but it was not said in the video i think she should have quit as soon as the got too much p2w, as 6 years is a lot of time we are talking about here, but anyway i hope this video will motivate to never do gaming again.

Great video, mobile gamee are the worst of all videogames. I am fortunite that i never sprnd more than €100 on any non mobile game only €20 and shortly after, about 1 week afer that transation I recocnissed its scam and quite the game. Also i found out this year that the MMO i used to play the longest cost €300 to buy all micro transation, which i find unreasonable and shows the main reason the game is grindy: proofit for the few capitalists who own the IP
