While not a phone tech, I know enough to appreciate the value - and rarity - of reviews like these, that incorporate thorough analysis, integrity, brevity and explanations that make sense. It is crystal clear that the priority is truth in the process, which will translate to truth in conclusions. First of all, huge respect for this guy. Been watching since 2015. Always giving us great content. Second, the fact of the matter is, -some people might need camera lens protector, -while some don’t need camera lens protectors. I wouldn’t say it’s *completely* useless. . . as my iphone 11, got scratches on the camera area. Hence the reason why I even bought a camera lens protector (to prevent further scratches on the camera area) I’ve always thought I never have to worry about the camera lens area since I’ve never had problems with my 6s, 7 and x. But really not sure what happened with my 11. Conclusion: others don’t need it, while some need it (like myself)

Thanks for this! I was actually looking for a video that shows the proper way to clean the lens (because I am paranoid about scratching it) but this video showed me how durable and sturdy these lenses are. I have first-hand experience with this as well, I have owned: an iPhone 4, iPhone 6, iPhone 7, iPhone XS Max & now I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Not once have I had a scratch on any of my iPhones' lens so far.

Don't say the chances are low. Recommend something else. My camera glass did break from a drop on the ground, from less than 1 meter (3 feet). There were small pieces of gravel on the asphalt and one hit the lens directly in the center. Guess that's extremely unlucky, but it did happen. Just so you know, when that glass breaks, tiny microscopic pieces go inside the camera's stablization/focus mechanism. Also small pieces can scratch the actual camera lens (not the glass above, which broke), or can even go inside the camera. So you can lose your focus, stablization and have dots in your pictures. I had all of these.The fix then is to replace your camera AND the glass that broke, which is not cheap. There are cases that cover the entire camera when you don't need it. That would have been a nice recommendation.

Bought my son and I an iPhone 13pro when they first came out and had already ordered the casetify case, screen and lens protectors for them. So four months on the lens protector on my phone was cracked (my son’s one is fine) and on inspection it fell straight off. The camera lens below was still perfect. I do believe there was the slightest extra “flaring” when I take my morning sunrise photos each day with the protector on, so I’m going to stay without it for a while. Thanks for the reviews.

I really recommend camera screen protectors because I dropped my iPhone 13 Pro Max while getting out of the car, and the rocky parking lot chipped the camera lenses. Although it was a minor chip and didn’t affect the camera’s functionality, it was disappointing. A protector would help maintain the phone’s trade-in value, especially since AT&T is very particular about such details.

I'm watching this after getting a stupid lens protector STUCK on my poor iPhone lens. It was the kind that covered the entire square area of the back camera lens. I dropped my phone (in a case) this past weekend right before a concert and it SHATTERED the lens protector! I'm talking splinters of freaking glass! How frustrating! Although the lens won't suffer an impact when dropped on a FLAT surface like concrete, a deck, etc. as you show, dropping it on a trail while biking, hiking or running is a different story. Here sharp rocks, the edge of a boulder, etc. can easily strike the lens even though the lens is recessed behind the plane of the back of the case. For folks doing these sorts of recreation activities, I would argue a lens protector is indeed a worthwhile investment.

None of the cases I have hardly, have the lip to protect the camera so it stresses me out to think about it getting messed up. So the glass protector I got gives me a piece of mind, so it’s worth it. I also didn’t sink more than a couple bucks into it, so there’s that plus.

For someone who never drops their phone it’s simply annoying that you’d get softer and softer glass from generation to generation of phones. Back then I never used a screen protector and never had a noticeable scratch on the screen. Even after over a year of having it in my pocket. The iPhone 11 I had until recently scratched after a few days, fairly bad even, just from the dust in my pocket. Since I heard the 12 series would scratch even more easily it’s the first time I put on a screen protector :-D

I ended up with scratched camera lenses on both my iPhone Xs & 11Pro Max within the first few months of ownership. So the concept of not trusting the naked oem sapphire lens glass to never scratch is not unreasonable or stupid. Just wish there were better options available for my 12 Pro Max.

So, use case scenario... Now that the magic keyboard is out it forces “commando” iPad use unless you want to strap on a case every time you take it off the keyboard. What I’m having a hard time with is laying my iPad down on all sorts of surfaces and having the camera bump take all that abuse. I thought these products would help solve this because they still allow for Magic Keyboard use.

Your excellent diction makes it easy for me to understand your review. (I’m hearing impaired.)Thorough test parameters. Only negative is I already bought them. Cheap ones no big deal. As someone who cracked the iPhone 8 camera lens its kind of insulting to say it doesn't happen or that its some super rare scenario. Gravel, pavement, stones can impact and shatter these protruding lenses and it's honestly been the weirdest flaw that apple has decided to just double down on. I get that they make money licensing accessories but its a frustrating part of the design.

I know this is last year’s video but I just got the 13 pro max. I was worried about the lenses. The case I got for it does have a “lip” over the lenses so I have that protection. I put a screen protector on and guess what, I noticed it does change the display quality ever so slightly but I’m glad it’s there. I found these lens protectors on Amazon and literally minutes ago ordered a set. After your video I canceled the order. I’d did because your video is the second one actually showing a scratch test. I think it really depends on what type you are, are you the type that really care about the aesthetic condition of your phone or not. If you are then, my suggestion, you're applying such protector. There are camera bumps since 11 series and it got even bigger in 12 Pro Max. Yes perhaps the lense itself is tough, but it is not for the paint part rounding those lenses. My 11 paint around lenses are chipped because I usually store my phone in my backpack alongside my other phone. So for the one who really pay close attention with their phone's aethetic, dont take a risk guys...

I was just gonna purchase another camera lens protector for my iPhone 14 Pro Max but after watching your video it changed my mind

I'm someone who inevitably ends up with scratched up camera lenses on my cheaper Androids even with the case on. I saw Jerry Rig Everything's video on how the sapphire lenses aren't as rugged as we're led to believe. I recently switched to iPhone and I want to make sure it stays nice for a while. Would it make sense for me to buy a camera protector to leave on when I'm not using it? (one that could be removed when taking pictures as opposed to one that stays on.)

camera protector often come with glue to attach to the phone and it's sometimes hard to remove, you can even damage the lenses by doing so. You can buy a case that covers the whole thing, it's a better alternative and you can remove whenever you want without damaging! So, buy a case that covers the whole phone
