The Name of "Chang and Eng" in Thai is the name of the tree (Diospyros decandra) that has 2 kinds of fruit in the same tree. (This is the reason why their parent uses these names.) One is bigger and roundly called "In" (female flower fertilize with stamen), and another one is round and flat called "Chan" (male flower fertilize with pistil).

Funny the show doesn't mention the fact that the twins became members of the Southern planter aristocracy. As wealthy and famous plantation owners they also owned quite a few slaves. During the Civil War they became Confederate loyalists and two of their sons fought for the Confederacy.

I asked one of their descendants about that and she said that everyone owned slaves back then, and they treated their slaves very well. Pretty messed up.

They were definitely at least half Chinese-Thai, but their names in Thai, จัน (Chan) and อิน (In), are most likely actually derived from the Thai pronunciation of Chandra and Indra, two Hindu deities. They were also apparently very adamant about being marketed specifically as “Siamese” and not “Oriental” or “Chinese”.

I thing you may not understood correctly about Thais, Thais is not just only Tai, Thais is Siamese it's meltpot people since longtime ago there have mixture of people Siam last 300 year Teochew may a new group, you may called Chinese-Thai in that's time but now they are Thais in every espect, even new commer is after since oversea Chinese spred all around the world Approx 100 year olds but the fact you should know, Teochew were migrated into Siam since Ayuthaya its over 300 year ago, this is what different between Malay/Sing/ or other -Chinese Thai-Chainese is refer to just ethic and culture but They are Thais 100% Thais, even many culture/ethic/food every thing are already melt you know even non Chinese Thais still celebrate Chinese newyear, pray to ancient and what ever their god in the Chinese new year. this is what called melt multi culture, I have Teochew root as well, so I alway represent myself as Thais not Chinese Thai, NO Chinese, No Indian, No malay, No Japanese, No Farang, NO WTF-Thaisas long as represent yourself as Thais you are Thai, what ever you came from. This is fact

American revisionist history alert! 🚨 Conspicuously missing from this video is any mention of the slaves the brothers had working their farms, not even in passing. In fact this video only stands out to me for how much of the really important information about Chang and Eng is left out of this video. All i learnt really is they had about 1500 descendants at the time of filming, whilst simultaneously hearing no mention that those 1500 are descended from the 21 kids Chang & Eng had between them. Unless this is just a clip from a much longer show? If so and everything is covered and i stand corrected.. disregard and move along.. nothing to see here 😇🤭
