I have been getting tweets about this particular game and event for a long time. The Square Enix Mobile RPG Mobius Final Fantasy had a collaboration with Final Fantasy X, in which we got to see what took place between the ending of FFX and the ending of FFX-2. It was originally only available in Japanese, but since the English dub is now complete and released, I took some time to watch it and see if it really had any new story worth shouting about and whether FFX fans should bother watching or playing it.

It was only right that I eventually check out this supposedly canonical story segment for Final Fantasy X now that it's fully available in English. I like that Mobius doesn't damage the X/X-2 story. I feel like Bhamut should have actually showed up in this but unfortunately he doesn't. I felt like a direct connection to how Bahamut's fayth asked Yuna about bringing Tidus back would have gone a long way. It felt somewhat lackluster at times but gives at least a bit more insight. There is still an Epilogue chapter that has yet to come out for this, so we'll see if that adds anything interesting to it.

I think it was more about "how can we fit Tidus and Yuna into Mobius" than "how can we tell a good story about what happened to Tidus between FFX and FFX-2". That was the impression I got.

Yes! In my opinion, I feel that this should have been included in FFX-2. It would've made it a far better, more difficult, and more climactic game. There should be a point of the game to where Tidus (Tie-dus, heh-heh) earning his human existence and the fayth Bahamut helping with that, ties in together. Just a thought.

@@kingsarverjr502 yeah that's something I always wish x-2 committed more to, making Tidus's return feel more "epic" in that regard, tying it more into the central story rather than it just being in the last 10 minutes and after-credits. I guess that would mean they would have had to commit to there just being one ending. Originally, they actually planned it that Shuyin would have to be put to rest first before Tidus returned, but the creators felt that would make Yuna seem more selfish if she knew that would be the outcome. I think they could have still pulled that off though, as it would integrate Tidus coming back way more into the mystery of the plot

I've always wanted a Final Fantasy Pre-X where we get to journey with Jecht, Braska, and Auron. This in-between story was a nice touch, but didn't satisfy the something that we yearned for.

I know the story of every prequel ever made. Didn't stop people from producing content worth consuming. But this is Square Enix. Short of Dragon Quest, they basically suck now.

I really liked how fun the story of this was. For sure it's fanservicey, but it's pretty good fanservice. It kinda adds some things to boost Tidus wanting to come back to Spira since throughout the story of this event, he accepted his fate of not able to return back to Spira. So it kinda just feels like a story that fits in between X and X-2 or a story that runs parallel in time after the fight with Sin until the end of X-2 since who knows, time in Palamecia may run differently. Either way the story was really fun, fits well with the FF X duology.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I really enjoyed Dream Within A Dream personally, since I love hearing how JAT improves his Tidus performance with every game he gets to be in, and of course the TiYu love. Considering how questionable the novella and audio drama are, I'm honestly glad this knew its place as fanservice and didn't add any real substance to the X/X-2 lore. Except maybe for Tidus coming back to Spira by his own will, rather than the fayth bringing him back. Also a weird fun fact: they refer to Valefor as a male in this collab.

Total fan service, but I am fine with it. You definitely put it well, regards to it's place in the story. Looking forward to anything you do on the audio drama, however, still going to pretend the novella did not happen mostly because no official translation exists which is probably for the best. I don't think the audio drama on its own is necessarily that bad either as my two cents on that are that it is just pyreflies (obviously) that explains what happens :P.

I truly appreciate your adding commentary to the mobius dream within a dream crossover. I enjoyed the storyline and the ties to FFX/FFX-2. I still dislike intensely the novella FFX-2.5, the Will audio less intensely but really?! I felt so bad for Tidus upon his discovery of Valefor masquerading as Yuna and just disappearing on him. Yet again, we experienced character growth with Tidus as he realized that people in Spira (Yuna especially) considered him real--he is remembered in Besaid when surfacing in FFX-2.

yeah I felt that was the most significant thing to take away from this mobius event, seeing Tidus realize how much of an impact he had on the people he met, he was more than "just" a dream, he found human connection and love, plus helped to save people in reality. He accepted his fate at first and imagined that Yuna would be able to move on without him because she'd be happy that the world was saved, but it was a great moment when Valefor basically communicates how Yuna still thinks about him all the time back in Spira, his prescence and lack of does matter

I would have been okay with the audio drama had they not connected it with the novela. Sin being back, okay I can deal with that. It's the novela that got going "wtf is this shit". My man Tidus kick a bomb and died and then got revived as a zombie essentially. They did him dirty.

I would agree it's more fanservice for this collab, but I'll take it. I love playing Mobius and love FFX so any content is great. Actually I think there's some character development for Tidus as well because in FFX you see character development more so on the rest of the party (Yuna, Lulu, Wakka, etc.) than Tidus. In the collab, Tidus is sort of put into Yuna's shoe where he feels lost and hopeless in Macalania similar to Yuna and he sees "Yuna" disappear in front of him like how Yuna sees Tidus disappears at the end of FFX. Tidus understands the positive consequences of his actions (like a world without Sin), but didn't really consider how his "death" would affect his friends.

I used to call him Tidus when FFX came out, but then KH came out a year later and he was called Teedus by a voice acted character in the game, so I guess that means that's how it's supposed to be pronounced?

Chris Flores Both are correct? I say TIDE-us but whatever. TIDE-us. Water, Blitzball, brotherhood sword, standing in water, pacific island theme. But with TEE-dus, it means Sun, like sun sigil. Yuna means moon, and welp, moon Sigil. Idk

The game is more on fan service, it tries to connect/link every FF game with its own story just like dissidia (something like ie: mobius ~ ff series ~ dissidia ). I played the game. Its the same thing with Cloud and Lightning.

Thanks for watching the movie version so that we don't have to. The audio drama was quite enough for me. They should leave FFX alone now IMHO - all they are doing is spoiling a great story. You Berk however, should continue to upload more FFX content whenever you feel the urge :o)

I think the canon of Mobius changes the other post-X2 canon. Tidus knows he's a dream, or an aeon. In the other stuff he's seemingly a golem, just acting as a Tidus cardboard cutout for Yuna to have nearby. He can be resummoned as needed. In essence, Mobius might have made the other content non-canon because it changes his whole motivation and viewpoint. X3 might have to change the story if it ever happens to choose one canon or the other.

I'm new to mobius game in general and only joined this community to pkay the FFX for tidus. spoiler for those who missed the chance to play after Nov - the blitzball event was okay and I mostly liked it cause you get to fight tidus and for that small moment you get to see him as a legit fighter and not some emotional love it or hate it character. and you get to battle against yuna with the aeons. those make it worth to play for a short bit other than that it was a pass. and it seems like fanservice cause they arent offering anything groundbreaking or progressive (cause for all that they could save that content for a whole solid console game and not waste in a dying niche gambling gacha game like Mobius) cause to me they were aiming for something realistic off the ending of the first game but It was a major let down. Those damn trials got on my nerves I cant even bring myself to finish it and there is only a few days left of the event in total. Also I hated how they to me humiliated Tidus by playing up his worst qualities (or basically qualities a lot of people misunderstood and labeled him as an annoying crybaby, immature, lame etc when again even in the mobius side stories he is the most human character there) For once I'd like a story where Tidus is more celebrated than questioned, challenged endlessly or belittled in some small quips that feel like cheap shots at him. cause truly Yuna herself has so many flaws and is passive asf but nobody talks about that.

dialogue was pure crap. the echo was bloody annoying as hell, the blank (us) was annoying and just an energy subucss next to tidus, I felt it didn't highlight tidus properly, yuna looked ok but not her best and the dialogue kinda forced too much indirect realism by basically making spira sound as backwards fucked as possible like the obius storyline in general isnt on the same level or worse. the tone at times left little to be desired.

it's neat seeing tidus/Yuna and their voice actors back again but I really hope this isn't to hype up or gauge interest in X-3. I'd love another game in the X universe but I really hated the novella and audio drama. I actually prefer the normal end in X-2 since it continues the themes of X. that being death and acceptance and thing like that. everything after X in terms of suitability for a sequel is just awful in my opinion. it's my favorite game and I'd really hate to see a sequel with a shoehorned plot. if they went with an original story or a decanonization of the novella and drama then I'd be fine but I'd really be upset if they went through with it.

I kno. Idk how everyone is so blind to it. I mean, I enjoyed the memories I got from it, the music, and the voice acting but yeah man, this was really just trash..... I mean, I'm not even sure this was made by square and the usual team. Really the story line is complete trash, it's not gripping at all, there's no feeling, it's like, it's trash!! Honestly the novella and the audio drama Will are one million times better than this garbage. But again, most people just didn't catch the meaning of the audio drama. Everyone's spouting off about ohhhhhh it's trash they broke up tidus and Yuna they fell out of love, aurom didn't have a daughter, blah blah.... When in fact in the jecht spheres in ffx jecht says to aurom something about him having a little girl, and auron confirms it.... And Yuna and tidus aren't broken up nor falling out of love, she has to keep her distance lest he find out he was beckoned and dissappear. It's in the novella. I really like the story line. I really like the idea of Yuna being able to become godlike in power. The beckoning is also extremely interesting to me. But we won't know what square is gonna do until like 2025 or longer lol
