Absolutely the same here, the crescendo and release, the sensory bombardment... Michael Mann has an insanely powerful feel for what songs to put in his films and just precisely where. But then you also need to have an equal talent for cinematography and editing, and in this sense Mann is the rock 'n' roll equal to John Ford. What an incredible artist.

People say Miami Vice the movie was too much style over substance. I agree but I still love the movie. I'd say is my second fav Michael Mann movie after Heat. The acting may have been a little dry here and there but the cinematography was beautiful and the music fit perfectly. Posted this a year ago but I feel it bears repeating: To me Miami Vice '06 is one of those underrated gems. I am a big fan of the original show and still loved the movie. The direction, the characters...yes, the characters were great. They didn't have typical arcs or no arcs at all. They were just the characters. The movie felt real with it's depiction of crime and crime fighting, the gun fights were terrific. Then we get to the love story and it has some really moving and striking stuff transcending the flick to a new level.

"the gin fights were terrific"...ahhh, not if you were in them! Or around them. Movie magic is great, unless it is about your real life. At that time Miami was a place to fear, not inhabit....it went from old people playing games and living, to a drug related Beirut...God help you, if you were in the wrong place at the time! We've glorified Bonnie and Clyde, Dillinger and others....Hey I get the attraction of seeing rebellion...but this was a horror show of blood, guts and anarchy..... Sorry, but your about the wrong thing...they weren't hero's...they were gangsters.
