After seeing this video 2 years ago, I completely fell in love with backgammon - it always remains me that almost every rule of thumb has an exception and only experts can see it. Only true grandmaster can explain such complicated topic in such understendable way. Thank you!

Probably the best lecture on specific backgammon strategy I have ever seen. Highly recommended... And who is that person disliking this video?!?! Haha...

This lecture is brilliant. The strategy and Tactics to keep your opponent behind 20 to 30 pips and not let them gain additional timing, while keeping a semi-prime in the backgame is so different than 'normal' strategies. Really eye opening lecture!

Backgammon for blood is an old book that favored the backgame. I Love the backgame.

With respect, "backgammon for blood" was a piece of s**t written to make a quick buck. Bought the paperback, read it and gave it to the guy I was playing long money sessions with 3 times a week.

Mochy played only 3 backgames out of a 100. but then again he is so good, that it is logical that he doesn't play much backgames. Probably the average person plays more backgames. It also depends how you define a backgame.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqvMi35-jquagbM Here Mochy asks what to do if we roll 31. He recommends Bar/22 5/4, but I think we have to hit with Bar/21*. The reason is: Red's 4-point blot is very valuable and being down only 29 pips Red has a real chance to make the 4-point and hit our slotted checker transforming his weakly timed backgame into a more playable forward going position. It is not very likely to happen, but it might. Usually we don't want to hit when defending against backgame, but if we have a chance to hit a blot that has a potential of becoming a valuable point for the opponent we might want to do it. Great lecture btw!

No, Mochy's play is correct, we do NOT want to re-circulate any red checkers and thus improve his timing, white has little to fear as red does not have the ammunition to launch an attack in his board. As you say, red is 29 pips down, but he needs a much bigger deficit for a backgame to succeed, do not give him what he needs.
