A norwegian white guy said "ching, chang, chong" to me in elementary school, a korean kid called me a "filthy jap", this has been going on for years. Due to the way they were raised. Asians know how to deescalate when confronted and just walk away.

I'm Asian Australian who lived in London for 1.5 years and I faced more racism in the UK and Europe in that duration than my entire life in Australia. Often Europeans have the most to say about racism in other countries but wait until you hear what they say about refugees, Turks, Moroccans, Arabs or Roma people.

name & shame. i'd be interested in which european countries were the worst and what were the worst incidents. Australia's still pretty bad when you consider that hoons driving around in utes yelling racial slurs and chucking their used macca's rubbish at randoms on the street quietly walking down the street minding their own business still happens.
@biggiedii4889

@@lowkeyconvert8971 Worst was Austria and Germany. People screaming "Ni Hao" or "ching chong" making karate noises also the general rudeness and staring from people especially the older cohort. The UK was a weird one - People looked genuinely shocked and a little disappointed when they found out I was Australian as if only blonde surfers can be Aussie. I think Aussies are more vocal on their prejudices than Brits who are more passive but also are in denial of their own racism like they still have a Museum full of things they stole and won't give back. Racism in Australia isn't as bad as a lot of people think. I've never had what you described to me nor have any of my friends. Hoons screaming and chucking stuff happens but definitely aren't the norm. What I have received in Australia though is ignorant comments like "Your English is really good" or comments reg genital sizes hidden as banter. Australia is racist af but once I travelled I realised I have it pretty good here in comparison.

Yeah, Boston and Massachusetts in general is a shockingly racist place. I lived there for 15 years from early 90s to 2008. Went to school there and stayed working up there. The racism was rampant. From asshole Boston Redsox fans, at restaurants who would make you wait 45-60+ minutes for a table, yet allow Whites who came later to be seated. And no, there were no reservations at these places. You have bigotry and racism at the boardroom, in companies with fellow employees, at golf clubs, and organization functions. Definitely at Irish pubs. Even the damn neighbors I had in my condo were racist. Luckily they moved away. Their attitude was, "How dare you talk to me!" Problem with them is this New England pure bloods mentality. If you visit Western Massachusetts, the racism is very apparent. I left happily after 15 years.

Far East Asians are few in the UK - the most common Asian British/UK citizens are the South Asians (Pakistani/Muslim and Indian/Hindu-Sikh-Jain). Brexit movement had a common anti immigrant component mainly against the surge of Slavic/Romanian/Polish immigrants in the UK. Universally, marginalized racial groups tends to be blamed for causing stress and other problems in society especially among those in less affluent native born communities. This racist hostile tirade is by a white girl who is lashing out because she is feeling threaten by the Asian descent girls.

For me growing up in Southeast Asia I was teased from time to time for my small eyes too. Some kids of Indian descent (Sikhs) were teased for their hairstyle. But in general there were more good people than mean ones. There are mean or insensitive kids everywhere in the world and they can always find some things to tease others. Fluffy hair, big nose, big front teeth, big ears, all kinds of things. Why do you think lots of girls in Korea and China get plastic surgery? So all in all, it's unpleasant but we should just avoid such people and don't let them get to us emotionally as long as the majority aren't like that.

As a Chinese American, I have encountered more discrimination in Europe than I ever have in the US. I was visiting London for the first time 10 years ago. The first night of my visit, I was assaulted while withdrawing money from an ATM in Piccadilly Circus. 3-4 young Brit men attacked me from behind, pummeling me in unison. I assumed it was a robbery, but realized it was a race based attack when they start yelling out “ Konichi wa” surmising my identity as Japanese. I yelled out “Get the f*ck off of me, I’m not Japanese.” Shocked by my response in American English, they backed off sheepishly. And said “ Sorry, mate. Are you alright”! ?! Racism can happen anywhere. Mostly subtle but unfortunately blatant and violent in some cases.

There are already around one hundred forty thousand former Hong Kongers who took advantage of the British National Oversea passport over the last two years. At the moment I suspect there are almost one million East Asians living in the UK and also another million living in France. Take whatever perceived power away from slurs by not reacting to them. Kent is a county. She should stay in London. Compared to the city, there is more racism in the county (suburban and countryside). I guess I'm very fortunate that I never experienced a racist attack during my study in the UK.

However, choose a white person (or a group of white) of the same gender as you to walk with, if you choose a person of the opposite gender, the racist chavs will assume that you(a non-white/foreigner) are trying to steal or after their men or their women, which will infuriate them, you'll end up getting attacked. It is another sad moment for the west, that is still trying to reconcile with historical transgressions and atrocities done to the world. It is for all of us to not only learn and move pass these moments but to also learn from them and to loose any and all cold-heardness in all our societies as to become empathetic towards one another and put an end to these foolish matters. I giggled as you brought up racism/prejudice towards "certain white colonies" in which the British took over. My own province (in which my descendant immigrated to in 1536 from France) and lost to the Brits in 1760 thus becoming the minority for a British colonial entity; not only do we still have resentment and hatred for them, we still crave the need to liberate ourselves from this establishment (just like many others have tried and failed (Scotland) and other's have succeeded (India, Bangladesh, Pakistan). Racism is traditionally been recognized as a skin issue but as seen in the history of the world; it does not limit itself in that term. Religion and language/tradition play also a big part. As well explained from an English Canadian's view about my (and the majority) living in our province. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipWqg2dpbp2YaZo

I am about 10 miles from Raidstone Kent ... this seems like another normal day out there. Racism in the urbanised regions of the UK is delivered in a different way to that in the urbanised regions of the USA from my observations. What you saw there with the girl is a rather primitive form of expression typical with poor educated 'working class' demographic ... racist expressions evolves as they get older into more insidious forms and is judicially applied at the local pub, bar, supermarket , and the workplace .... such as quoting certain lines from films, laughing at you for no reason, making you wait longer than necessary for services or to be acknowledged, ignored, or accused of something trumped up to justify their verbal abuse or threating behaviour ... The middle classes tend to become discomforted with their dislike of minorities and the lack of social connections outside of the English / Continental speaking white ethnic group, and try to hide themselves from the issue with social grandstanding gestures such as condemning inequality on twitter, taking yoga lessions, going on holiday/vacations to Thailand for selfies with friendly grateful locals with their beaming smiles, but who are in fact just staff workers at Thai bars & hotels just doing their hospitality thing .... The British Educational system aka National Curriculum has not been revamped for decades ... still engraining the same old British empire & WW2 historical romanticism into children, with western US media compounding the issue with whitewashed TV box sets and movies to ensure the next generation will continue upholding Britain's divine position on the globe with their British Colonial Superiority Complex ...

Fun fact about the U.K. The Welsh and the Scotts are the native tribal people of Great Britain. The English are descents of Vikings and Normans. The Vikings came to steal, rape and take over the land and they were successful. The first wave of Vikings settled in England and pushed the Welsh to the west then generations later a second wave of Vikings came pillaged and fought the Vikings who had settled the land generations earlier. Then the Normans came and pretty much conquered all of Britain. So the English are some wild savage people, that racism comes as no surprise.
