That's not accurate because every Asian is not from Japan, Korea or China. India population is about to pass China again this year in 2023, and they're dark. There are various other dark skin Asians in Asia, so your comment is a bit off because people don't seem to know what is in the continent (lack of knowing history).

A big reason why is because we as a group haven't defended ourselves sufficiently. We care too much about being accepted as a model minority so we don't challenge the hegemony. And when we experience racist insults and crimes, we keep our heads down. Want change? Stand up for yourself and for the people who look like you, and for people in general. And if you're already doing it, then keep it up.

I see this argument a lot but this also stems from culture too. You look at China, doesn’t the government there want you to obey and not challenge the government? I think that is where the root of the issue comes from.

@unifieddynasty
@unifieddynasty Жыл бұрын
@@all-star6025 I would say that Chinese culture is intrinsically not passive and nor does it tolerate insults, especially not racism directed towards them. People in China have no qualms about being direct or loudly arguing or even protesting. The one red line they have is that they tend not to protest for things that threaten the stability of the incumbent regime, and that is because they would much rather live a continually improving life than threaten such a prospect. On this last point, I would agree with you. However, this behaviour is a product of China's culture, not of China's government. This is Confucianism. And this speaks only of the relation between the government and the governed, not of the people being meek towards abusers, and also not of the people standing idly by if the government fails in their duty.

Growing up I always noticed how people had no problem picking on me for being Asian. Growing up, I used to hid the fact that I was into anime/K-pop or that I had good grades because my Mexican and Black peers would always pick on me “omg man you’re so Asian” or “all you Asians are the same” stuff like that. Not that I ever would but imagine if I said the same thing to them, I would have got my ass handed to me. I love Black people, r&b/hip hop and the culture. Naturally I follow The Shade Room. There been times when I peep the comments of a post and SO many people would say the most racist and ignorant things about Asians, those comments would have so many likes. The majority would find it funny or agree with it. That just hurts me and makes me sad because I thought we were past that. Fried chicken and water melon aren’t funny jokes. Neither should eating dog or bat soup jokes. Making fun of other people’s cultural food that they grew up on is so wack. Also calling your nail tech “Ling Ling” is lame af and instead you should respect her by learning her real name. I just hope in the future, people would show the same care in what they say about Asians like how they treat all the other minority groups.

Hate to say this but The Shade Room is notoriously terrible even to the Black community. We're fed up with that group ourselves so it's a live and learn experience on which Black spaces are not only going to be welcoming to other groups but other kinds of Black people as well. Same with how not all Asian podcast groups or channels in general are the friendliest towards Black folks. If you truly (as you put) love Black folks, and I mean us (the people) and not just the mainstream consumable parts of our culture, I urge you deeply to branch out to smaller Black creators cause there are plenty that are Asian friendly unlike the mainstream ones that are considered problematic within even the Black community itself.

@@obviouslyme3950 I 100% agree with this comment, TSR is so damn TOXIC! A lot of these Black American blog/news sites are that live for the most ratchet & worst of the Black community but are the same ones that will get upset if you call them out & true the Black community can be very monolithic & binary about how to be Black & really just judge themselves & everyone else according to a stereotype. That's why sometimes I just can't relate with some people. But all that aside yeah, there are some many positive Black news & entertainment channels that spread positivity & you have Black people who love Anime & Asian culture as well, it's a rising & somewhat common thing nowadays, we exist we're here. That damn mainstream makes it hard to notice unfortunately.

@@FluteCheerios Absolutely agree. Even Black folks have to navigate our own spaces carefully and I certainly do it myself. Sometimes the help out and give money to anything remotely Black attitude can be a detriment because not everything Black owned, made, or including us is for us. Therefore knowing what to support and who's really for collective respect and liberation across the board, is a vital skill to have cause otherwise you end up giving views and money to people who may be skin folk but ain't kin folk. And yep, Black folks been into anime before it became a thing for celebrities to announce that they were into it themselves. I'm one of those Black folks who grew up (and still is) one of those anime nerds back when it was considered whack to be that. Not to mention there's plenty of Blasian folks out there doing the work that really don't get the support that they should from any side of their heritage so make sure to check up on them as well. Overall cultivate your spaces carefully and watch who you give your viewership and money to.

Let's be realistic and look from a psychological standpoint from the outside looking in (and these are generalizations). 1) Asians don't talk back 2) Asians don't fight back 3) Asians don't assemble in numbers 4) Asians (when rebuttals are required) aren't well versed in verbal sword-play (because of culture and points #1, 2 and 3 and 5) If you want to feel bigger about yourself...one way is to make the 'lesser' person feel smaller to make yourself appear larger (especially if there's almost 0% risk in any way shape or form). That said...I'm Asian, but if I was a non-Asian who was a negative person, had insecurity issues and/or was racist or bias...I would 1,000,000% talk shit about Asians almost every day. It's THAT easy. And that's not a good thing.

As an Asian that used to live in NYC and left 15 years ago, I think the main problem with alot of Asians in the US, especially men, have been there all their lives so they are blind to all the blatant racism we have to endure. We are a passive race of people, taught at a young age to obedient, desperately want to live in America, and worse of all, unable to unite as an Asian tribe. We have alot of Asian pride out of necessity but deep down we are not united. ALSO, this might be an unpopular take, but we see a high percentage of Asian women dating western dudes and this further empowers them to treat us like this. The primal instinct of man who can dominate another species of women will have this kind of effect. In conclusion, now that I no longer live in that society, I feel a heavy load lifted from my shoulders and there's no way I can see myself going back to being treated like second rate citizens. Unfortunately, this will continue to happen due to our own upbringings, values, lack of unity, and self depricacy in a world full of asshole white people.

The Ying-Yang shape as a metaphorical representation to me can sum that up. Taking the good with the bad and majoritally if something foreign and negative is being directed at another sum of a structure, if the base of that structure is cultivated to be strong then it was as if one rain-drop helped natural growth occur for a tree to further strengthen and endure any negativity the same size of a single drop of rain. But if a flood occurs then that tree will breath water and then there would be no more need to strengthen a underwater breathing tree with one single drop of rain. The rain will still exist, but will the tree notice that single drop of rain from above touching now a plate of water hiding a sunken tree? Asian culture is real culture, their elders don’t play it then the lot of the family don’t play with it. Entertainment and rude words out of context and meant to insult as a prank don’t mix. How about just stick to what you know and worry less of other peoples culturally shocking languages and customs, I’m sure they’d barely even mind being seen as foreign. They don’t teach being rude as a custom in societies with family morals.

Black guys would never terrorize the Latino Cholo Barrios the way they terrorize Asian communities because the Cholos like Nortenos, Surenos, MS-13, Mexican Mafia would put a bullet in their motherfucking heads. The Cholos are even running the Brothas out of Compton. Every 10 years during the census Compton is becoming a lot more Cholo and a lot less Black. Thats why you're pushing the whole Asian vs Black thing. You're giving props to dudes who are literally writing NK on the walls and acting like those same cholos didn't and wouldn't do the same to Asian people. Ok I'm Asian-American and my views aren't going to be popular but hear me out. First, if that article quoted a title from a book and went on to explain the nuances then imo that was good 'click bate'. You guys hit the nail on the head. When they published this title they KNEW FO SHO it was gonna get attention. Second, you guys are also right that Asians aren't taken seriously in terms of backlash / cancel culture. This isn't exactly all bad. It's because as a group we have bigger fish to fry. We tend to behave rationally and practically. This is both pro and con. Anyway, finally, you're ultimately right the fact that WSJ left Asians out of the hate crime survey is mind blowing. I'm surprised they got Christians in there to tell you the truth. By the way, I appreciate your objectivity representing both left and right views. You're right about the cuties Asian culture and all that stuff.

If some Asians - particularly Asian Americans - just said these comments stop now, you'll have folks of all races walking right with you. It's not okay. I agree with you. I'm not Asian. Let, especially Asian women take to the street or wherever necessary, with both family and community support behind and with them, and they will get support from outside the community too... The Tao, the natural order of the universe, teaches the Chinese to live in harmony with nature. A philosophy not shared by the rest of the world. From China Daily..."Taoism regards the law of nature as the supreme principle governing the universe and human society. It believes that harmony between nature and humanity is more important than good relations between people".Jul 27, 2006

I'm seeing here in the comments that Asian-Americans need to stop turning our cheek, we need to start speaking up, we need to gain political influence in the US. However, I don't think these are the reasons why people aren't scared of offending Asians. Asian-Americans don't want to see Asia rise if means challenging the west. Asian-Americans support a strong South Korea and Japan, because it doesn't challenge US hegemony. However, when countries and regions like China and South-East Asia rise, we're against it. We support the US' involvement in Vietnam and South-East Asia as a whole. We support the US' interference in the Taiwan Strait. We support the US' color revolution in Hong Kong. We support the US' removal of ETIM off the terror list despite operating in Xinjiang and the border regions for the last 30 years. We support the US intervening in Mongolia's elections. No matter how much they offended us, we will never challenge them because at least we're not one of "those Asians". Look at the Stop Asian Hate movement. It's being fueled by Anti-Chinese propaganda but Asian-Americans refuse to address. Many even supporting the very thing fueling Asian hate. If Asia rises, they will no longer feel so open to offend Asians, but Asian-Americans won't let this happen.
