The AND gate change to NAND gate since we need to turn logic 1 into 0 (if it doesn't work, in my case), so 1 0 1 0 becomes 0 0 0 0.

How do you decide on and gate and how did you know to connect and gate to the 2 and 4 flip flop?

There should be nand gate instead of AND Because nand gate produce 0 as a output Thank you ☺️

Watch closely and you will find that the reset is initiated with a 1 , not 0. So, AND will do the trick

And do you use the and gate because it is asynchronous and not a ripple counter? If it was a ripple counter, would you use nand gate then?

You need 4 because it is a mod 10 counter. 10 is between 2^3 and 2^4.
