I have a 2018 DRZ400S and I ride it between low (2000 ft) and high (11,000 ft) elevations every week. The stock motor and carb work perfectly at high elevations. I have plenty of power with instantaneous throttle response. I've reduced 9-lbs weight from top of bike, which improved the handling significantly. Anti-Gravity Lithium-Ion Battery saved 5-lbs over the 7-lb OEM Lead Acid Battery. Also added bar risers. Replaced headlight faring and rear tail light assembly. Also removed passenger foot pegs. Overall drops top-end weight by 9-lbs. I understand that it's fun to ring out every bit of horse power and performance, but my DRZ400S runs extremely well in stock configuration. And I like the quietness of the stock pipe. At 11,000 ft, my bike never back-fires, no throttle hesitation, and plenty of power. What more could I ask. If I want to race on a motocross track, I will buy a dedicated Motocross Bike. Nice video. Makes me proud to see what a DRZ can do 🤙

I still have my '04 E version, full Yoshumra RS-3 pipe, re-jetted, opened up the air box. Of coarse I don't live in Commiefornia, I wouldn't have gotten it plated there. Now living in western MT. Life is good on a DRZ!

Does the 04 drz400e still have a Fcr? In Australia they still make the E and sells better than the Honda crf450l. Both are great bikes even tho they have similar horsepower.

@@dirtbikeplug It had the 36mm Mikuni when I bought it, a friend of mine had an FCR.. Swapped him some parts for it. I don't know how many miles are on this thing. i did a valve check a couple of years ago, all good. Compression is still good, change oil and keep a clean air filter in this thing. It may out live me.

Great idea to check such, the rm250 frame is very similar and used for freestyle we do trust this bike especially being a 2018 piece of metal.

I have the DRZ400e model here in Oz. We get the best model. I’ve added the Athena 434 cylinder, hotcam intake cam, opened up the airbox with a few more holes, MRD SSW full exhaust, MX Tech suspension valving, heavier springs F&R, 3mm longer shock, Braided front brake line, taller seat, Twin Wall Bars & other basic bolt ons I did MX, Enduro, Trail & road on the Ag Bike. It was a Great All Round Dirt Bike that allowed me to flog it for 14000km before the oil pump seized up

I agreed on that engine yet - Still has the old school fcr carb, forks, swingarm and front brake master yet all of those are an easy swap and the swingarm/axle set up isn’t a big worry, performance wise!

Carb first before the the big bore, piston and cam is where the power is remember a Ktm 350 makes more power than most 450cc when built right

Good to know the bike can do it 😂. I guess it's easier if you already know how to carry speed and jump and not trying to learn mx on the DRZ400. I've taken mine on a track a few times and then bought a RMZ250. I still need more power to carry my 200lb ass over jumps though.

I have a 2021 with 3x3 mod and yoshimura full system and +3 on the rear sprocket. I stay on the streets and just ride the bike to work and have fun on back roads and wheelies on the weekends. what carb would u recommend for my bike and my use. I do allot of stop and go traffic. and run about 55 everywhere

42mm is best yet we offer 39mm carbs with our same design for trails and low rpm use but overall is less power, other companies carbs do not handle the larger sizing as well due to our tps, ap pump linkage and float bowl upgrades direct from Keihin. @@countryboy5427 40mm is for all-around riders the advanced riders will always go 42 the beginners are 39mm as they are what comes stock on the Drz400 in other countries still to this day. The 39mm carb Is more common and easier to sell to consumers so that will be what most companies recommend.

Don’t mind my comments, I know you have reworked that bike beyond of…any? But, to participste: I got mine as light and motocrossy as possible, but when i took it to the track it seemed so slow, and the rear end bottomed very hard and took out the tail tidy and cracked the inner fender. lol. Better wheels and suspension and, prob. A big bore kit. Are Basic necessities. I also ran a 13t front sprocket, but that is a slight gearing change. What is your final running weight? Hope you mention it.

Thinking about a dr or drz. What didnt you like about suspension? Can it do offroad whoops and jumps? Not talking motocross level stuff, more trail kinda whoops.

@@connor3288 on the trail level it was very fun to ride, good power and handles well but in a trail full of holes at higher speed it just dont absorb the hole like a real dirt bike. My other issue was the seat i tried a couple but did not find something very comfortable. The last thing i did not like was the heavy front end like how the heck is that so heavy😂😂 other than that i really like it, its a very good all around bike. It does a lot of things and very well. Im just used to mx stuff. Unfortunatly i had to get rid of it last week but might get another one soon.
