I stumbled upon your channel and I really dig the information you are sharing . I was debating buying the EC -1000 with the Pegasus/Sentient pickups because I have never heard it in person had only read about it and heard some ok demonstration. After hearing you play it with the Friedman Runt I was convinced it was the next guitar to buy for my six string metal arsenal. I have the Maxon 808 but to me it alters the natural amp gain so I am interested in trying the Boss Super Overdrive with my Landry LS100 G3 amplifier. The Boss Super Overdrive works well with your "Bad Boy" Marshall JCM 800 because it does not change the amp natural sound. It just makes it bigger! I dig the 1959 HW Plexi EVH mod!

Enjoyed the journey, almost as deep as the Pete Thorn one. Just a comment though, surely using an EMG as the main pickup is a bit deceptive? Funny how we all think we know how Ed got his sound isn't it. I just got a SV20, and it does the plexi thing, but I must confess my old JCM 900mk3 is just as much fun, and the 5150 OD has that sound as well as a noise gate. Room plays a lot into the sound as well, Ed did it in Sunset sound with 2 cabs and a drummer.

I LOVED both with and without the SD-1, but as an former plexi VH 1-84 devotee, I actually liked the amp stock without the SD-1 and would have loved to have heard you play that track, double-tracked and panned wide-left/right. Just seemed like you were attacking the strings harder without the SD-1. To be fair, would have also sounded cool to blend the SD-1 track in center during the tapping part, but alas... You are wonderful and love your content!

Dude, GREAT tone/s as always ! I like that guitar, and I truly believe that a top mounted floyd sounds better than a recessed one 👍. Also, those Modern construction Warmoth necks make ANY guitar sound better ( I believe its the extra metal used in the truss rod construction). The tone is so articulate and precise. Both amps sound awesome, but I prefer the fact that with a 2203/2204 circuit you can use an effects loop and get at nice delays and reverbs since your not satuating the phase inverter and output/power section. With a 1959/1987 you have to use extra stuff to get at the delay/reverb ( like reamping with another head and load box or a Powerstation, etc). I LOVE the simplicity of using ONE good Amp ( 2203 or 2204) 🤘

You know i was messing around with those mods a few years ago and the best "brown sound" was achieved by using those "mustard caps". It gave me the impression you had a "sd1/ts-9" on focused on mids/high midswith not so much "high end" running in the background and had decent sustain. The metal film caps give a good clear sound but not as dirty as the brown sound. Those old mustard caps did the trick for me. I can't find those in Finland i had to tear down an old hohner german amp to get a bunch (and i still have plenty left)

It's becoming a bad boy? The Bad Brother ;) Those ECC83Cz tubes are JJs. The Cz stands for Czech, i.e., where JJs are made. TAD does not make tubes. They buy tubes and grade them for quality etc. Then they rebrand the ones that passed their tests. They source from JJ, New Sensor, and China etc. Groove Tubes do much the same thing. Dave Friedman reckons those new Psvane tubes from China are getting good. I am keen to try them. Vintage tubes can be hit and miss, but sometimes can be unbeatable. Most of the ones I have are not clearly better sounding than modern ones. One is though. A Phillips Miniwatt. Nothing else gets close to how good that thing makes my amp sound. I do not use it though. I want to look after it, so some good examples of vintage tubes are available for people in future to hear (same with my Sylvania 6CA7 tubes). P.S. If you do change the OT, Marstran is a good shout. I have their iron in my 50 watter. It slays. It does sound very old school though. The other is Classic Tone, but they went out of business. BTW. Now you need an Explorer or Destroyer with an Ibanez Super 70 or Dimarzio Super Distortion pup in it. It will sound mega Eddie with that amp. I always thought I was more into Randy Rhoads, but it appears I have been down the EVH rabbit hole too huh. The tone that has my ear lately is neither. It's Rory Gallagher's lead tone in a song called Bad Penny. Vox and a treble booster I guess. It is so awesome.

Hello euge, nice to see you enjoying your modded plexi! I'll have to say although i like plexis played by others i'm more of a jcm800 guy. The JJ 6CA7 have a harder sounding crunch than the old Sylvania 6CA7 ( I had a pair in my HiWatt back in the 80s). The EHx 6CA7 are softer than the JJ. You could try just a pair of the EHx and plug the speakers into half the Ohm rating. It's safe. EVH switched to 50W plexis anyway. It reduces the "woof". What preamp tubes you have? Those parts propably weren't even invented when fourholes were originally made. Typical symptom is audible - the amp begins to crackle like a dusty vinyl player after the amp warms up and temperature inside chassis rises... One easy fix is to put a for ex. 0.1uf coupling cap before the tonestack circuit ... Improves reliability...

Those TADs are JJs as well...CZ is czechoslovakia...where the JJ factory is...

Yes 👌. Those just sounded better this time than half dozen (labeled) JJs I tried 😎. Actually the first time for me.

TAD orders tubes from all manufacturers, and they test, sort and matches them. TAD doesn't make tubes.

I think that for the clean tones the roland jc is for you. And for lead... soldano. With plexi and bad boy, panned, you have the rhythm section 😂

I use my ADA MP1 mostly for ”crystal” cleans. It’s solid state clean channel is basically a Roland JC and I prefer original 5150s over SLO.

Euge did you purposefully make this video 51:50 long? lol

No but kinda cool right 😎.

Hmm interetskng. I could have done for you roccaforte mod, 4gain stages without extra tube. Can also do 4 and 5 gainstages with extra tube. And work from there. That ptp circuit is tasty to mod. Also. Jj preamp tubes are no go in tone with marshalls for that 80s tone. Chinese and sovteks sounds better. No need to do the crossover distortion checkup. As crossover will give you odd harnonics.

I’m good with Eric and he gets the sound & vide in my head but thanks anyways.

@@EugeValovirta230V opinions aside. Your tone is good. But you lost lots of sting on the high strings. Just saying.

Sorry to say, I think stock sounds better. More bark, more bite, less compression.

The jumper uses both the A and B stage of the first tube, pulling the jumper gets rid of one side=fail

I know you probably couldn't care less, but is this Plexi one of the new Marshalls with Made in Vietnam Transformers? Edit: it's from 2023, so it has them.

Rebiasing at 90v/160v is exactly NOT what Eddie did, and Dave Friedman has said both, but he’s selling amps
@EugeValovirta230V10 ай бұрын
Yeah that's fine but this amp is/was modded to my preferences ;-)

the tone is much more distorted than Eddie used in his amps (VH I- VH II- diver down period and the others from the plexi period). It's a nice high-gain distortion, no doubt, but it has nothing of Eddie's tone-just listen to the isolated tracks (for example - beautiful girl - can be heard here on youtube). On a quick listen I hear too much gain on the preamp tubes, typical of modern high gain, perhaps similar to the late 5150 amp...but far from a natural overdive plexi. With too much distortion you lose attack and harmonics. Distortion must come from a synergy between preamp and power tubes. I love Eddie very much but I didn't like his tone at the end of his career either. this is a little better than the last 5150 amp I heard, but still with this excessive distortion it lost the plexi character.

Glenn fricker says without A/B tests and graphs we can't believe anything you say. Glenn says that ONLY the speaker makes a large contribution to the tone. So; according to Glenn, you have wasted your money by not buying speakers from Mojotone because SMG channel is sponsored by Mojotone. And I know this is the Gospel because Glenn uses the F word and he screams. So we know he is telling the truth.
