I have a Tbucket built here in Michigan 1977 and it's very much the same way. It has a hand built tube frame for the body with sheet metal wrap to it. I was going to pull the body once I got back home from Iraq 05-07, but the body is welded to the frame. I ask a old time (80+) Ford flathead V8 guy in 2008 about it and he said that was common. "Well think about it, it saved a lot of weight and made the frame stiff" Sadly that builder is no longer with us. Keep up the good work preserving hot rod history.
@HotRodHoarder Жыл бұрын
That sounds like a cool old hot rod. There aren't very many old time hot rodders left...we have to learn what we can while they're here.
@markstopkey4085 Жыл бұрын
I swear that is the frame I modified from my '29 5 window coupe about 35 years ago. The bracket on the driver's side was for a steering box. And yes I used '52 Chevy juice brakes, split the wishbones and used tie rod ends to attach them to the frame brackets. I mounted a 327 from a '62 Corvette in it with the front engine mount bracket. I don't recall what rear end I mounted on it. That has to be my frame. But where's the body?
@HotRodHoarder Жыл бұрын
Oh man that sounds like a match! Sure wish a 5 window body came with it but I probably would’ve had to pay more than $100 for it haha.

Good morning, I can explain some of the modifications on your "A" chassis, it definitely was worth a Ben Franklin!! Y'all be safe!! God Bless!!
@danoc51 Жыл бұрын
I'm wondering whether this chassis was ever built to a full car. The nub sticking out from the front driver's side of the frame looks like it could have been part of a steering box support but it doesn't appear the builder got so far as to install steering. Anyway, very cool. Especially for $100! I always enjoy your detective work. I never would have known about the front wheels source.
@HotRodHoarder Жыл бұрын
Oh I didn't even think about steering. I bet you're right. Could've been a high school project on a paper route budget that never made its way onto the street. Either way, just glad I was able to drag it home and have another conversation piece at the shop.

The frame would be an awesome thing mounted to the wall of a man cave. I see a Factory Five Cobra in the background! Do tell!
@HotRodHoarder Жыл бұрын
Yes! If I had a shop tall enough, this would be a cool piece to mount on the wall or hang from the rafters. Maybe someday... The Cobra is an older kit car and it belongs to one of our buddies. I wish I had pictures of it when it showed up. The body was busted all to pieces and my dad pieced it back together and set it on an S10 frame.
