Looking great Dave, your attention to detail is astonishing you are part of a group of modellers who like to have a area as good as can be done. What had always fascinate me about railways in these islands of ours is the architecture that has gone into stations Retaining walls tunnel portals etc. Not only are they functional but they are beautiful as well. Your recreating that and it looks great. As always thanks for sharing not only your wonderful railway and your knowhow with us I for one have learned so much. See you on the next one, you and yours stay safe in these times, Eddy xx

The area between the tunnels looks great. A little of that textured paint and a sprinkle of fine turf on the top of the walls ledges is about all I can think of. I think the platforms look a lot better now with the darker track, a lot of oil dripped out of the DMUs where they stood. I like the litter as well a small detail but big improvement to the scene.

Hi dave Great update and love that you have tge gardens on the way to being done. I must admit I do like the end bit on the track weathering and I will be getting my air brush out with my sleeper grime and black rail match paints out. One question I have if you mix up rail match sleeper grime and don't use all of it can you keep it in a glass jar for a future project ??? Peter from Birmingham
@DeanPark
@DeanPark 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, cheers. Keeping paints once they’ve been thinned is possible yes. If I am doing a job where I’ve mixed a shade of paint I always mix too much incase I need to add more later in the project. However use a decent jar or even an old humbrol paint tin to store the mix as it will dry up. I tend to find using glass jars will only keep it for a week or two.

Omg, stop press! You've started the Waverly Gardens scene, I've been waiting for what seems decades to see what your ideas for that will look like! Lol. The wws applicator is going to be a god send on fiddly bits, mines been in the box for about 3 months, hoping to test it very soon. Good to see some of that oily muck appearing around the station. Couple of tips to enhance further in the future if you need to.. Diluted satin varnish (solvent) pippete down the centre of the track will give a subtle sheen on the sleepers. (Oily areas) A very dry brush of a light grey on the sleepers closest to the rail will give you some amazing contrast and will highlight the grain and some of the ties. The lighter colours on sleepers is often missed by many and really changes the track no end. Try it on a test piece you'll be surprised.

Hey Dave, another brilliant update. The tunnel opening part of the scene has worked out super effective - the 20+ hours of work are there to see, and it's impressive. Looking forward to how the garden part next to the station turns out. I was watching the littering part and was astounded at the tiny wee tickets.. then when I saw the newspapers, and I was thinking it'd be a laugh to joke in my comment about how you'd probably want the newspaper headlines to be time specific, then you only go and confirm that they are! Unbelievable!! One other thing that I wanted to mention is a lighting idea that keeps popping into my head. As you may remember I'm not into the modelling scene, just a fan, so I'm unsure how viable my suggestion will be but here goes in any case. You would probably have to have this custom made, but to have an LED strip lighting system in a configuration above the layout, avoiding shadow projections via the loft beams. In my (overambitious?!) mind it'd have varying daylight simulating, programmable hues which could possibly even be programmed to simulate various daytime and night/moon settings. It'd probably only cost a few thousand to have designed and installed (lol) but by god, it could really end up with some wonderful lighting and shadow results on the layout. I just think it's a shame that you guys go to so much effort on the tiniest of details, only for it to be somewhat diminished via harsh striplights. If I could draw a diagram, I would. Anyway, probably an unrealistic idea, but thought I'd share in any case. All the best.
@DeanPark
@DeanPark 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, cheers. Yes even the newspapers are era specific... image if I’d used the Obama ‘four more years’ headline ... someone would have spotted it and ripped into me 😆 As for the hours spent on that retaining section... yeah I’m glad you appreciate the time that’s gone into. It’s a smart job if I do say do myself. One thing I can’t be bothered with is rushing a job and putting up with less than I know I can achieve, so I like to do it right first time to my best abilities. Hopefully saves me doing parts again in 4-5 years! That lighting idea sounds good. I would love to have a lighting set up that allows auto dimming etc so I can film dawn and dusk shots etc. But as you say, that Is probably going to cost a lot of money. Maybe not cost effective. Cheers. Dave

Cheers. Yes my tip is get an airbrush 😆 makes it soooo much faster and easier to feather in colours, tones, levels of grime and gives a nice thin coverage to be built up in layers. You can of course do it by brush, but it’s very laborious. You could use an aerosol... but that can go everywhere.

I think it looks effective, baring in mind this area is a mini eco system as it does not get disturbed apart from when the maintenance team periodically clear the area,. I think there was still smoking on trains in the Nineteen Eighties, so sparks from a cigarette thrown from a train window, could risk causing a fire if the grass was to dry in late summer.
