Hi Dave, it's amazing just how much the layout has progressed. When you watch each update as they are published you tend to move along with it and it is only when you get an update like this that you realise how much has been done. Keep up the good work and of course stay safe and well. Regards Bobby'T'.

Cheers Bobby. Yeah I do work hard on it and it’s hard to believe it’s been 8 years to get to this point, but a layout this size with one man building it all doesn’t happen quickly. The last phase will involve a lot of scratch building and a lot of planning so I think the 2-3 year timescale I’ve attached to it is realistic. I don’t rush things, I don’t throw things together on a whim. So this end of the layout will get as much attention as the other 3 sides got. Can’t wait to see it all come together. Cheers and thanks for watching my videos. :-) take care. Dave

The industrial part of your layout reminds me of Sheffield's East End of the 1980s/90s the area even had an train scrapyard - Thomas Wards. Due to budget and wanting to build most buildings myself it's amazing what you can achieve when you put your mind to it. Interesting video. Attercliffe Cental.

Great to see the whole layout!! The level of thought and the detailing that's gone into the layout is incredible. My sister went to Edinburgh University in the late 80s/early 90s, so I used to regularly go up from Grantham on the train to visit her. Your layout has really captured the feel and atmosphere of the location and the era... especially the Prince's Street gardens you've recently added, looking at the station throat through the trees brings back memories of watching the pull-push class 47 services!!! Keep up the great work, and I look forward to following progress!!

That’s great, thanks. I’m glad it brought back memories. I too travelled to Edinburgh every day to university in the 1990’s and it’s those memories that have given me inspiration to build this layout. Dave

Amazing stuff again Dave. You just keep raising the bar with every new scratch build. If they invent smell o vision, You'd just need that old Brewery smell that used to hang over Waverley in the 80's. Your layout is so close to the way I remember going to Edinburgh as an early Teenager visiting what was a thriving mecca of sulzer and EE power, albeit with first gen DMU's, it's like being teleported back in time.
@DeanPark3 жыл бұрын
Yes I remember that distinct smell as you approached haymarket in the train. Great memories of days out in Edinburgh as a child. Across in the train, visit harburn hobbies, a Wimpy for lunch (a treat in those days), some trailing around the shops, back on the train and home.

Hi Dave, I was about to embark on an n gauge representation of haymarket mpd in my garage until I saw this. My loft trusses are almost identical to yours and you have given me the courage to move into the loft instead. I haven’t modelled for 40 years so I like a challenge! Chose haymarket because buying Farish deltics was a must (I was in Edinburgh for the farewell in Jan 82 and I have a special place in my heart for them). previously living on the WHL I also had to have 27s and 37s too so Haymarket offered this 55, 27 and 37 scenario. Great videos! Keep it up!

Fantastic video. BTW although the Scottish region prefered three car DMUs, your two car class 101 is actually correct for the period and region, as in 1989, Haymarket depot converted three class 101s to two cars, to cover for delayed class 150/2s due from Neville Hill. Once the sprinters arrived, the 101s were returned to three cars.

I suppose the office by the railway, might have the walls, carpets and chairs in a ' nice sickly shade of bright green or orange', and stained in places with coffee. Perhaps Wayne, a twenty something admin assistant who , shops at Top Man , eats chips, at his desk, drives a white Ford Capri, reads the Daily Mail, and has a blond highlighted wedge hair cut, is one of the people doing overtime, to pay for his holiday to Costa Del Sol.
