Great to see another N-scaler on YT! First time visitor, very impressed with what you’ve done. Great inspiration for my own little layout. Looking forward to seeing developments in the future.

Lol Gary you've won the tidy Teddy award and I'm glad you weren't driving trains and drinking 🤣 great plans and some great progress mate. Love the new stream direction and the new pub/cottages idea on the opposite side. Just a thought about the area between the track and new engine sheds, maybe a rough scrubby area with old scrap wheels and train parts sort of semi covered by vegetation. Great video and happy new year mate Andy
@SC683 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, Happy New Year, yes lets see how long it stays tidy, not usually very long! Its been drinking beer and doing scenery which seems to work well so I will have to keep it up 😂. Yes I think the stream looks much better coming down the hillside rather than disappearing and reappearing again. I just did not like previous road bridge and deep embankment so pleased with the new idea with the tunnel and pub/cottages. I like your idea for the waste land I think I may well go with that 😁. I will have those nice two wagons running in the February update hopefully over the completed viaduct area. Cheers Gary

Great update mate, loving the engine shed area, you've managed to compress the prototype perfectly into that space, top notch. All the best. Brian.

Greetings SC68 and hello Gary 👋 Another great show 👍 you really are becoming a master at the scenic work 😍 Can't wait for the "muddy track show" 🌞 all the work around the viaduct is to die for 😇 and the cladding of the viaduct will make it more personal 😎 The locomotive shed looks a fine addition and really does lead the eye into the layout 👍 Lots to look forward to 😁 Very best wishes from County Wicklow ☘️

Hello Paul, thank you and glad you approve! Sometimes I feel I do too much on the scenery and not enough running if trains etc….but it’s the way it goes at the moment! I will leave the excellent running sessions to you my friend. I am very happy with tunnel top but now looking forward to finishing off the viaduct and scenics. Cheers Gary

Hi Gary - great update - plenty to keep you occupied. Looking forward to seeing the steam shed area progress. The flexible track laid will give you much better running round the curve on that point on the layout. I couldn't see properly but the flexible track running off the short crossing - I'd have the first few mm laid straight off the crossing before starting the curve. Very enjoyable update from a talented moddler. Cheers Euan
@SC683 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much Euan, it should develop nicely in the coming weeks and months! The flexitrack track curves are so much better with little overhang now in locos snd coaches. Thanks for the tip on the cross over I will check but seemed ok when I ran my locks over it but need to test with rolling stock. Have you had trouble with cross overs? Cheers Gary
@thegrowler-blackwoodngauge3 жыл бұрын
@@SC68 I've found rolling stock runs better if the wheels can come off any point, crossing etc on the straight before starting to follow the curve. If your happy with the track and everything works fine then I'd leave it alone. If you leave a small section of straight at the start of the flexible track then the point where the rails start to curve isn't as noticeable as the track starting to curve immediately from the crossing itself. Taste and fancy really - just go with what you think is best for your layout. Cheers Euan

All developing very nicely. Just one thought, you could put most of the gardens of the workers' cottages and pub in front where you will see them rather than behind where they will be largely hidden. This should also assist with blending this area into the backscene. Looking forward to watching plans for 2022 unfold.
@SC683 жыл бұрын
Hi David, thanks for your comment and feedback. Good point on the gardens at the front. I could still have the road in the same place but could also have some allotment type stuff across the road from the cottages as well. I just give them at back yard behind the cottages then complete with outhouse. Cheers Gary

Another great video Gary. Are you planning any changes to the Station building?
@SC683 жыл бұрын
Hi Kerry, thank you for leaving a comment and your kind words. The long term plan is to replace all the cardboard kits including the station buildings and good shed but that’s a while off yet but I will plan for a bigger station when it eventually happens. Cheers Gary

Hi Gary, the stream scene is coming together nicely it’ll look fine once you’ve completed mate. Engine shed area looking very good and will enhance the layout, i think you’re right in keeping it separate from the goods yard. Difficult to say what to do with that space between the engine shed area and the tunnel, depends how much separation you want, maybe a bush/tree clad bank may look good. Interesting what you’re going to do with the Metcalfe viaduct, cladding in the stone sheets. I like the Metcalfe kits but I’m never quite sure they look realistic enough. I’ve been considering buying the church kit and doing much the same thing cladding it in stone sheets and tiling the roof, just to see how it looks. I look forward to your plans for the year Gary, cheers for now mate, John
@SC683 жыл бұрын
Hi John thanks for the feedback, yes it’s coming together and really enjoying the scenics and finding it very challenging finding out new techniques and methods for modelling the barn, water and other stuff. I will see how it pans out with the tunnel / engine shed separation once I get further on with the hard scenery around that area. I enjoy doing the Metcalfe kits but really enjoy the challenge of doing scratch built buildings and they are more individual to the layout. The station buildings will be a major challenge but not going to do those anytime soon but planning for s bigger station building tbh. Cheers Gary

Evening Gary Greetings from darkest Lancashire. After cogitating and viewing several other channels that use tunnels I have had a daft thought. When and where do tunnels require ‘air shafts’? Many years ago when I was country/fell walking, air shafts were a part of the country side. So my query what size would the air shafts be when using N Gauge? Thanks for the inspiration and direction. Cheers Peter.
@SC683 жыл бұрын
Evening Peter from also Lancashire 🙌 that is s very good point on the tunnel air shafts, I guess as modellers we don’t seem to put those in our tunnels, maybe a feature there to look at??? Ha e you got any photos it would be interesting to see if one could be included? Cheers Gary

The tunnel top farm scenery is very effective. Can I ask what you used for the drystone walls?
@SC68 Жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for the feedback, the walls are purchased from a company called Model Railway Bits and are N gauge 70mm dry stone walls both straight and curved. Hope this helps? Cheers Gary
