Here in the US, I'm excited for Bachmann's new release of the C40-8W. Alongside GE's other offering of the time, the AC4400CW, the C40-8W was immensely popular with American freight service, and hundreds remain in service today. Many C40's were later rebuilt as Dash-9s to comply with emissions standards.

The C40-8W predates both the Dash-9 and the AC44CW. The AC44CW was basically an AC Dash-9, with the Dash-8s being the models of locomotives that came before them.

They are making a steam model, but it’s actually from the tooling they acquired from MTH. So, wait and see how the Chinese engineers reverse engineer and adapt the old tooling to newer tooling, and then fit with electronics. This is engineered 100% in China as are all scale trains locomotives.
@a2020vision_official4 ай бұрын
I've had plenty of great models that were built in China. As for it being designed there, [citation needed] I remain unconvinced - especially since MTH does at least some of their engineering in my state.

@@a2020vision_official that came from scale trains when they were talking about it. They said the China plant is reviewing the molds, trying to understand them and adapt them to their processes. MTH isn’t involved anymore in this.

Ah I see. Well there's engineering the product, and engineering the manufacturing process. I work for a manufacturing company in the US and our engineering and manufacturing for my product are located in different states 4 hours away. That's close enough that design engineers visit the plant several times a year, but far enough that you want the people on-site to understand the parts and tools being used in-house so that when something goes wrong they can fix it themselves. I can only imagine that when the manufacturing is over 24 hours travel away you'd want the same. But to be clear I haven't watched or read everything they've put out on this product, so maybe there's more to it than that.

It's the lack of hornbys proof reading that gets me. I used to design model traction engine kits, and that meant me writing instructions. Once I had done those my boss would read them to make sure they made sense (him being the businessman of the company and knowing very little about the product), and so would the lead manual machinist, so you get a good balance between instructing both people who know what they're doing and people who don't. If hornby had a similar system, they wouldn't be putting drivel like this out to the public. It is just shocking that they don't.

That new livery for the Terrier looks sublime. The accompanying copy though is appropriately ridiculous. Perhaps for research, Hornby's copy writer could have looked up your own review on the Black 5 and then phrased it in their own apparent house style. "The LMS 'Black 5' locomotive with badly coupled tender is available now! The model features an enormous price tag for enhanced realism and a flickering light in the smokebox if you move the pre-fitted light, for slightly less enhanced realism. Regarding the lamps, the headcode formation is set up as Class R- as in "Aaargh, what lamebrain glued these push-fit fittings in place?" However, additional broken lamps fresh off the reject parts bin are included in the accessory bag to make up the weight. Hornby has been working for many years to bring this new model of the classic Black 5 to you, and you can see the hallmarks (and fingerprints) of our construction process all over it." I'm now trying to imagine a new Engine Shed blog entry for the 48DS if they released it today. "Aww, innit cute and ickle? Comes with truck!"

I am not sure about a whole loco. I have the G. Fawkes fireless loco on pre-order, from the Wagon Works which has also commissioned a 1907 wagon. If I were to place a bet, I'd say that this is a viable option. Not every layout is set in an exact location, and many people have fictional industries. And some of those industries had locomotives. Hornby already did a similar thing with the ex-Percy tooling in the Tea-Brown Distilleries livery.

Well I’m rather pissed at my dealer right now. Ordered a Hornby 9F (R3988 Evening Star/DCC/Sound Fitted) and they delivered it to North Carolina, I live in Florida…how the hell does a dealer mess up that badly? 🤣🤣

Dapol should make a brewery shunter with a [DCC access] firebox door shaped like a pop-top beer can.

An LMS Princess in Saxon (Rock Band) livery ~ They released a single back in the 1980's "Princess of the Night". An LNER A4 in modern LNER livery (current operator)

I have suggested a Pacer in Sex Pistols livery. Might see one someday... And why not an Ozzy Osbourne steamer ? Crazy Train anyone ?

Wow, the Dapol 0-4-2 even includes "metal wheels"! Hmmm, pretty sure all my locos have metal wheels. Seriously though, it'll need plenty of weight at the front to give it fair traction, so a diecast boiler will be very helpful.

Many models have plastic wheels with metal tyres - I think they mean the entire wheel is cast!

@@SamsTrains Good point - thank you. Mind you, weren't Triang doing that more than half a century ago! I hope the 14XX lives up to the promise - it must be one of the most popular small locos ever.

I mentioned this last month but now I really do wonder if Hornby are using AI or at least offshore labor for their writing now. This is about the type of results I'd expect if they did.
@SamsTrains4 ай бұрын
I wonder that too - it looks a bit AI-ish to me... but I just don't know why they'd do that... it's a handful of paragraphs a month and they have a massive team! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

I'm waiting for Hornby to produced a DCC-equipped steam model that makes diesel noises ;-)

The Rapido fish vans do have sprung buffers - on the pictures of the blue one, there is mention of 'OLEO' buffers - this term is used where shock absorbers are in use, eg., aircraft undercarriage; the legs that the wheels are mounted on, are known as 'OLEO legs'.
@SamsTrains4 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing! Have they said their model has sprung buffers then?? Thanks for watching, Sam :)

@@SamsTrains That's what an OLEO buffer would be, yes.
