OO Scale Model Railway - Wellingford & Bakewell Bridge - Is this one of the world's best OO scale model railways? The multi-award winning Wellingford and Bakewell Bridge is incredibly well known on the Australian exhibition circuit. Built by the highly talented Gavin Thrum, the layout is still regarded by many as his masterpiece, especially amongst those of us who have been lucky enough to operate it. The model was built about ten years ago ... at a time when Gavin had never set foot on British soil! Yet he has managed to capture the quintessential essence of the LMS in Derbyshire. Whilst Wellingford is a fictitious location, Bakewell Bridge station is based on the erstwhile Midland Railway station at Bakewell. The station, situated between Buxton and Matlock on the Midland Railway mainline from Manchester Central to London St Pancras, closed on 6th March 1967. Today, the track bed is used by the Monsal Trail Cycleway. Some of the station buildings remain, re designated for commercial use. I originally produced this video in 2014, but I was never totally happy with the quality because the video was 'jumpy', which I felt didn't do justice layout. In this 2020/24 version, I have altered the frame rate and re-rendered the footage to a higher standard. Si bien Wellingford es una ubicación ficticia, la estación de Bakewell Bridge se basa en la antigua estación de tren de Midland en Bakewell. Die mehrfach preisgekrönte Wellingford and Bakewell Bridge ist in der australischen Messeszene unglaublich bekannt. Die von dem hochtalentierten Gavin Thrum gebaute Anlage wird immer noch von vielen als sein Meisterwerk angesehen, besonders von denen von uns, die das Glück hatten, sie zu betreiben. Das Modell wurde vor etwa zehn Jahren gebaut ... zu einer Zeit, als Gavin noch nie einen Fuß auf britischen Boden gesetzt hatte! Amazing detail and modelling. So much care has gone into the design and presentation. Awesome. May I suggest that a train circuit on a kitchen table may be classed as a "Toy", but scale models are no longer in that class? I guess the question is, would you let a 3, 5 or 7 year old "play" with any of those layouts? Food for thought. Happy Modelling.

Welligford is without doubt one of my all time favourite layouts, and I consider myself very fortunate to have not only been able to film it but to have also operated it at several exhibitions. Thank you also for your thoughts on the new channel's URL. The original URL came about when I first set it up. I used Tube Buddy's Key Word Explored to try out names and, despite my own reservations, that scored highest!! However, further to your comments, I've now made a change, and I think I'm much happier with @MODELRAILWAYS123. Moreover, this brings it into alignment with my other new channel, @TRAVELAUSTRALIA123
