Quick run through of how to get switched accessory power in a 2021 Tesla Model Y. As stated in the video, for help with the mounting check out Everyday Chris’ video for Model H radar mount. This video is for information only.

What relay did you use? I’ve tried 3 that I thought would work just fine, and so far I either get really shaky power (not good for lights or anything to have that level of fluctuation) or nothing at all. Knowing what worked for you could help out. Issue is I have 16v battery system and I’m not sure if the 15.5v nominal is what’s screwing with them or not.

Thanks for the info. Just wanted to double check...the brown wire is a constant 12v and the red is the switched source?

The red wire on the passenger side is the switched source, if you need power for an accessory that is not switched, then it’s probably best to just use the trailer hitch harness that is on the driver’s side.

Hi I’m trying to install an electric spoiler that lifts up and down. It has an accessory wire in addition to the 12V+ and ground wire. I would like the spoiler to lift up when the car is unlocked such as with the side mirrors unfolding and then turn off/retract when the side mirrors fold as when the car is locked. Do you know which wire I should connect the accessory wire to?

That might be a little more difficult than when the car is turned on and off because I believe the mirrors are mostly software controlled since you can choose to fold them in and out whenever you want and the mirror motors aren’t always powered, they only receive power when moving. What you could maybe do is try to use the power to the screen as an accessory power to a relay as that turns on when you unlock the car, the one issue I see with that is when. Sentry mode comes on and when charging I’m assuming the spoiler would go up. I would probably need more info about the spoiler too to figure out more about how it all works.

Please excuse my stupid question: I want to install a screen that turns on and off with the rest of the car. Is it enough to connect to the red wire and ground in my case? I dont need the screen to be "ready" or so it can fully turn off in my opinion.

I would still use the tow package line for power and use a relay because that way you actually only using the wire on the passenger side as a indicator and not adding any load to it.

whats the difference between those thicker red wires and the thinner ones? Im trying to get switched power for a radar detector in my 2021 model 3, wiring looks similar. Cant figure out which wire it is. Tested all the thinner red wires and no power would come through. Thanks for the help

I’m assuming you’re still talking about with the bundle of wires down there. There really isn’t a good way to find out what each wire down there does but since you aren’t disconnecting them, and would just be using it to switch a relay there isn’t much harm in putting a tap on it.

@@ZanderBaron appreciate the response. Actually ended up figuring it out. My blendmount harness had an imperfection in the wire t tap that i fixed with a flat head

@@ZanderBaron Unfortunately Tesla changed this in 2022 with the transition to the Lithium battery. I tapped the same wires in my 2023 MYP and it reads zero volts with a multimeter. Nice install but unfortunately not going to work with 2022/2023 MY's.

Where is the fuse for middle console 12v power cigarette lighter port ?

Tesla’s don’t use normal fuses, they use solid state fuses so they are unable to tapped. I really don’t even know where these fuses reside but we’re not readily apparent when I took apart my car. You could splice onto the wire behind the 12v but then you potentially won’t be able to use that port while you have an accessory powered from there

frunk area under the cover where the firemans tag is an auxilary 12v battery and a traditonal fuse box i have noticed but have not really done much to investigate that on every model

2021 but if you’re working on a 2022 there is likely only some changes with the wiring but should be relatively similar
