I'm sold! I had been putting off the installation of a set of GoLoHo Model 3 door seals that I had been sent because it seemed like so much work. And now... I'm completely sold! The car is quieter on the road, the doors close with a much more solid "Thunk!", and I will soon see whether there is a reduction in the amount of dirt and water that get into the door well - something that has always annoyed me. Anyway, at a cost of $32.99 the only issue is whether or not you feel capable of installing them yourself. Watch this video and you WILL be able to do it yourself. If an old dude like me could, so can you!
By the way, also check out the episode by Matt of Undecided who also reviewed the same door seals and provided some more detail on the dB levels and their significance: • Tesla Model 3 Car Nois...
Here's a link to the Amazon site where you can get a set if you decide the benefits are worth that small cost:

I installed these seals today right after I washed the car. I haven't driven the car with the seals yet since it's now pouring down raining and I don't want the car to get dirty this soon so I don't know about the noise reduction but I have no trouble closing the doors. I hope they do for me what they did for you. But there were several things that were negatives about this product. The lack of instructions was the most frustrating thing followed by every one of the adhesive primer packets were dry inside so I didn't have any for the primer. I ended up switching the sides for rear doors and it seemed to fit better and not show when the doors are closed. For the B pillars, I put the closed end side at the top. I don't like how the A pillar seal shows when the front door is closed. When installing it, be conscientious about putting all of the seals on evenly making it consistent with the edge of the door. On the A pillar, I wavered a bit due to how hard it was to get my hands in there and it doesn't look that great when the door is closed. With that said, just like with remodeling your home, you tend to focus on the mistakes but no one else will ever notice it. I figure I can always remove them if it keeps bothering me.
@model3man
@model3man 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah - the A pillar was the hardest for me too. And I very sure my big man hands are even larger than yours by quite a bit, so for me it was just crazy difficult :). The problem is that you learn so much doing it the first time, you wish you could start over and do it perfectly a second time. But of course you can't :). Thanks for sharing your experience. I also thought the instructions were quite pathetic - but then what's new.

As someone in the car industry I would recommend against the seal, actually because it works: The inside environment of any car door is in the industry a "wet environment". Because due to the road spray and the window downward seals, not sealing perfectly and condensation happening inside the doors due to cabin sealing. Now if you put new seals, outside the factory provided seals, you might actually stop the slightly wet environment inside the door from having enough "breathing room" to dry out when it is again hot and dry outside. Especially when it is hot outside and the wettness cannot evaporate it might have not so good reactions inside the door and could in the long term speed up any corrosion that might happen. Especially on parts where there is welding etc. like the door hinges. Now that might not be the case in the Tesla Model 3 and I have not taken the door apart in mine yet, however it may still be the case and might use caution when sealing something that is not sealed from the factory.
@andyfeimsternfei8408
@andyfeimsternfei8408 5 жыл бұрын
I agree, however there are two weep slots along the bottom outer edge of the door. I think if one is careful to avoid blocking these, the new seals should not stop the cabin from breathing properly.
@rokibler

model3man, there is an area at the top rear of the rear doors, about 4 inches long, that allows a lot of water in to the area you are sealing off. See 10:39 of your video. When I wash the car, water gets in this area and drains down towards the bottom of the door. You need to cut the seals at the bottom, to allow this water to drain.

I wonder what happens in the winter when there is water on the seal that freezes and expands. Because the seal makes the door closes tightly already in the warm weather, what happens when there is a coating of ice on it, would it eventually damage the door somehow? I hope not.
@joevandura9625
@joevandura9625 5 жыл бұрын
Hi there, just look to the premium cars in Germany. All of them uses double sealed doors! They don't have any problems with water seals or evaporation problems of any kind. Why? Because it's not possible to "close" that area that much so you would stop climate these. So if you have drain water from the windows, it can be inside the seals but it would never be so much that it could be a corrosion problem. There always be enough ventilation to dry it by itself. Dankeschön für das Video. 👍👍👍🇺🇸🚐🇺🇸🌞😎

Terry_42 - Thank you for your cautionary note regarding the seals. I was careful to cut out a part of the seal just below the two drain holes that each of the doors has, so the water can at least run down, and out, quite freely. Also, at each of the corners, there are gaps between the various seal components (A pillar, B pillar) so that in the corners of the doors the air flows freely around the seal. I think the main benefit that I have noticed is a noticeably quieter cabin both when at a standstill and when travelling at lower city speeds. At highway speeds, the road noise becomes totally dominant with the new seals, just as it was without them previously.

@@garyopt depending on the volvo it’s a high end brand, it’s almost expected of them to have low noise since a new volvo cost like 50-60k plus Compared to a model 3, if model 3 was an ice car it would’ve been a 27k car but the batteries increased the cost, it’s a pretty decent “low end” car interior so you shouldn’t expect much from it

@model3man 5 жыл бұрын
bill nipp - Well, it’s only the second day for me, so it’ll take a while to see if I still feel positive towards them. But, I think that I definitely hear less of the surrounding ambient noise. As I mentioned in a different reply, sitting at the traffic lights, it was pretty hard to actually HEAR the cars going through the intersection. At highway speeds, of course the road/tire noise still is very present but no seal is going to reduce the tire-road noise to any large degree. I do however like the fact that sealing the cabin is more likely to keep airborne dust out of the cabin, and that it will certainly contribute (even if only to a small degree), to keeping the heat in (in cold conditions) or maintaining cooler temperatures (during warm days). Remember that it (the seals) are only ONE part of a number of strategies to reduce ingress of noise so on its own its’ contribution will less than overwhelming

I've heard with the new seals, you do have to shut them a bit harder to shut them properly but they do break in, so you should be fine. Really like the new deeper clunk sound. Also the lack of those outer seals means it can get pretty dirty on the inside. I think these seals are pretty good value for all the utility they provide.

At 10:30 I was thinking back to installing similar door seals on aircraft I've replaced, and how the rubber bulges and restricts door closing in sections, and my technique to deal with that was to start at the hinged side of the door and trial close the door as I applied the seal until I got a perfect fit. That can be done first by using blue painter's tape to hold the seal in place while stretching and marking with a white grease pencil on the seal and door lip and matching the lines as the adhesive cover tape is removed. Maybe the company can send you some extra seals and you can try again.

I haven't used that particular app but I assume the large figure in the centre is the instantaneous measurement at that point in time (i.e. the point in time you took the screen grab), so shouldn't be used as a comparison. The average measurements are a better representation (72 vs 68) and they show a 4dB reduction, which is still really good. That's 40% quieter in terms of linear sound pressure level.

Regarding drainage from the weep slots at the door bottom, could you cut out a 20-mm or so section of the rubber to allow moisture to freely drain out, then place some additional seal that goes up and over the drain? Like this: ___ __| - - |__ where the dashes represent the drain from the door and the solid lines the path of the seals. You could leave some space at the top as shown to also permit moisture to evaporate from the space between the new and original seals, or maybe leave the top completely open.

Michael Schneider Too late to do a video as the car now has seals. I did record the sound using the Decibel meter and as you can see in my review, there was a small but significant reduction in the decibel level inside the cabin. The two runs were done under identical conditions on the same afternoon, the same amount of surrounding traffic, the same dry road conditions etc. But, decibel meter results aside, it just feels quieter. The noise of surrounding cars is without doubt quieter. Sitting at the traffic lights this morning, Janine commented: “I can hardly hear the cars going through the intersection”. And she was right. So, it is accurate to say that the difference is noticeable.

I didn't watch if you ever mentioned price of your pre-package product but I have a feeling someone bought existing P and Z seals, repackaged them and sold 'em to you in a fancy box for a lot more money. All that said, I also added a Z seal trim around the rear hatch (except the lights where I put it on the light fixture instead) plus the seal around the roof glass sold separately, and the whole thing now sounds like a bank vault.

The lack of a manual is maddening. I’m not sure whether I got the rear doors reversed or not, with the thick part on the outside edge, or inset. The front door seems no quieter when shutting yet, I saw one video where the thick part was placed over the drainage hole, (cut out of course), and the red dragon had his over the bottom lip so the flap extended below the bottom of the door. It’s unclear if it’s sealing at all, or contacting the frame at all. Before I do the other side, thoughts? Should I buy a new kit and redo it? Maybe it only sounds quieter when slamming the door after all doors are sealed?

I have a Model 3 with no noise, and then I bought another Model 3 for my wife with the 18 inch wheels versus the 19 inch wheel I have on my car, and I’m wondering if the aerodynamics of the wheel on my wife’s car makes a difference and are less aerodynamic? However I complained to Tesla and they are sending their Mobile fleet out to take a look.

The logical question for me is why doesn't Tesla do this in the first place? Especially since it's only $40 and that cost would be significantly lower for them. You should bring this up during your factory tour and reach out to Tesla and see what their response is.

Michael, I work in automotive for more than 20 years and you are right regarding the price of the seals, they would be a fraction of the price if Tesla sourced it at mass production levels. However - and that is the real issue - the assembly of all these seals would add a lot of time ( TECT time ) to their assy process. And quite likely, would be a potential warranty issue, since TESLA gives you 3 years warranty and in extreme weather conditions these rubbers would have a relatively high number of failure before end of warranty. I do however think this could be an excellent aftermarket product - however by doing so, Tesla would indirectly admit that their insulation packaging is lacking.
@mmanjin
@mmanjin 5 жыл бұрын
@@avandenbroek1 You're missing my point. Tesla can incorporate better seals at the time the cars are manufactured and assembled which would require no more additional time than it already takes to install seals and very nominal if any additional expense to their current process because they are already leveraging the efficiencies of economies of scale inherent in mass production.

Hi model3man, how is your experience after about half a year now with the seals? Are they still doing their job? Is it effective in keeping road salt out? I just ordered them after seeing your vid. They will come in about 3 weeks to Norway. Hope to hear from you :-)

It would be better to install it a bit back from the edge of the door so you don't see any rubber in the panel gap when the door is closed.

These new seals seem like they may do damage to the door latching mechanisms. They seem to be causing you to apply more force to the doors than they were engineered to require. That will cause the pieces responsible for closing them and keeping them closed to fail sooner. The fact that the modification you applied on your own without being instructed to, caused the mechanisms to fail will void the warranty, assuming that the warranty has not expired by then.
@model3man
@model3man 5 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Montgomery - Thanks for your comment. However, I believe (and this is borne out by others who have installed additional seals and had them in for many months) that after even just a few days, the door returns to about the same level of difficulty of closing because the rubbers begin to adapt to the shape they are compressed to whenever the door is closed. Even on day two, I am finding that rear left door much easier to close. I do however share your general concern regarding modifications to the car that might cause adverse effects. I just don’t think this modification falls into that category although I guess time will tell :)

Thanks model3man! As a new owner of the M3, I’m loving the quietness of the cabin at low speeds but was looking for a solution that would help a bit with highway travel. For the interest of your Canadian viewers, I found this product on Amazon.ca which appears to have the same packaging, labeling and conditioner for use during installation. www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07R13DYYY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I’m hoping to install mine in the next week or so, but would like to take sound measurements before and after as well. What is the app that you used? Love the vids. I’m officially a subscriber :)

It's hard to believe. That you first have to put your hands to the wheel of a brand new car. That you have to buy a gasket set. You have to assemble it. So that you get your car dust and noise proof at the doors. Is this a joke Tesla? You've never heard anything like it before in your life. From a European car.
