Peter another excellent video. Thank you for your insights. However, as a model 3 owner for almost 3 years, one of the topics that you mentioned in this post must be fully addressed - PHANTOM BRAKING!! Most of my driving is around town. Last week we went on a short road trip, about 1,000 miles and I was pleased that the car behaved itself in this regard. There were some minor “surprise” slowdowns, but nothing significant until we neared the end of our drive, which was almost entirely on interstate highways. As has occurred rarely, but far to often for my comfort, the car dynamited the brakes (tires squealed) for no discernible reason. No shadows, no pedestrians, no nearby vehicles (except the poor guy behind me who was wondering what the heck that fool in front of him was doing). Only possible thing was some very slight puddles of water from an earlier shower, but we had been passing these for many miles up to this point. I am amazed that there have not been some serious collisions reported due to PHANTOM BRAKING. As you mentioned, it may have been resolved within the FSD software but that is no conciliation to me as I have no intention to ever purchase that add-on. Tesla must address this very serious issue NOW before someone gets seriously injured or killed by this unresolved flaw in the system. Maybe a poll of subscribers in an upcoming clip asking how often Tesla owners are still experiencing this problem. It seems to there just isn’t enough current conversation on this topic in the Tesla community. Keep up the good work. Russ

In winter with frosty days I start the heating fifteen minutes before departure and had no issues with the handles. I bought the FOB weeks before I got the Tesla. I'm happy with it and had no worries. Supercharer network was a significant point for me to get a Tesla (had no wallbox at home those times). Some don't want to give Tesla a try, because they are afraid of wanting one too.

I inherited a 2020 Model 3 and in July 2023, I drove it from Reno Nevada to San Francisco after fully charging it on a Tesla wall charger. A trip over a 7000' pass in the Sierra Nevada. The range forecast was reasonably accurate. I arrived home with > 100 miles of estimated range remaining.

Agree with everything you say except charging infrastructure. There are places in Southwest USA I cannot visit. I could get to those places, but I could not get back. That’s simply a fact. Yes, the charging network is getting better, day by day, but….. Do I regret buying a Tesla? Of the 15 cars I’ve owned during my life, some cheap and some expensive, my Model Y is far and away the best car I’ve ever owned. No regrets!

You’re quite right that there are still many areas that are not too well serviced. Here in Canada that’s also true but it’s encouraging to see the network expanding rapidly and other charging networks will soon be adopting the Tesla standard (NASC) and we will be able to charge anywhere.

Appreciate your even-handed comments about your Tesla over the years, Peter. I've noticed the same increase in anti-Tesla FUD articles lately, not just at questionable sources like these but also at more established publications like USA Today. A good example is the recent article about a fellow who didn't read the safety warnings in his manual and claimed he was “trapped” inside his Model 3, even though his hand was probably resting on the emergency release handle of the driver's armrest! I'm sorry to hear that his 12v battery ran down, but his call for an investigation of this “Tesla flaw” is silly and the endless rehashing of this “emergency” in various media just makes people needlessly anxious about EVs. As you said, EVs have strengths and weaknesses like any other vehicle. If you want the best experience with any emerging technology - do your homework, watch the manufacturer's videos and read the @#$&* manual!

Thank you for covering this recurring literary idiosy. Since most people read at the 4th grade level 90% (my guess) will not know of those misinformation sources or even struggle to read them. Couple that with an even lower science or technology literacy, the minority who actually do stumble across the articles will be hard pressed to mouth and understand the words and will no doubt give up 4 or 5 words into said articles. Mother Nature has provided another self-correcting phenomenon. Voila! Keep up the great work and triple check your scuba gear....(because of the issues mentioned above. )

Our local Service Center in Stuttgart-Weilimdorf (southern Germany) is an absolutely hideous place! I only go there if there is absolutely NO other option. Which thankfully, for about a year now, is their Rangers that come by our house when necessary. But the things that SeC has done resp. NOT done is WAY beyond anything I have experienced in previous VW, Mercedes nor Peugeot dealerships... In that respect sadly the Bloomberg article is spot-on, I am sorry to say. I have thus not referred a single friend or colleague into buying a Tesla, because their Service Centers, at least locally, are nothing I want them to have to experience first-hand 😡

FUD Notwithstanding, I paid for FSD IN UK when I bought an M3 in 2020 which did not materialise by the time I part exchanged for an My in 2022. There was no credit for FSD nor allowed to transfer to the My. No doubt Tesla just kept my FSD without passing it on to the new owner of the M3. Despite any caveats in the FSD payment regarding "ownership" or transfer of it, there was no indication of a delivery timescale for its full function in UK. My payment FSD was not so much of a gamble but a research support grant which has still not resulted in its delivery in UK. There was no security of my access attached to payment whatsoever. Stupid, wasn't I?

I paid for FSD on Model S in 2018, which was supposed to be imminent “next year” (as per the public message from the CEO of the company). Still nowhere to be seen. My dad also paid for it on his Model 3 in 2019, also supposedly available sometime “next year”. He had an accident this year and the car was a write off, and when he got a new Model 3 he would have had to pay for it AGAIN despite it not having been delivered on his last car. The fact that Tesla get away with this is ridiculous. Any other car company would already have been the subject of a class action lawsuit.

The FSD is coming some day to Europe, someone said the beginning of 2024 for the full package, but I expect when we go to v12 it will be deployed to all Teslas, probably with some limitations until approved in EU

I bought a used 2019 M3 with FSD and it transferred just fine and is being updated regularly. I agree that FSD should be fully transferable. But, I also agree, with Peter, that the way to go with FSD is the subscription model. That solves the purchase problem.
@model3man
@model3man Жыл бұрын
It is quite true, that the FSD payment situation, transfer of FSD, cancellation of subscriptions - have many areas that leave a lot to be desired, but I am absolutely certain that over time these annoyances will become a thing of the past. Very hard for early adopters to go through it, but I believe that ultimately people will simply pay a subscription because you can at least stop your subscription when you like and take it up again in the new car and then FSD transfer won’t be necessary at all

My Australian registered M3 RWD LFP is beautifully put together………but it’s just a shame the software performance isn’t as good and has actually been deteriorating. Unintended acceleration/speeding up after slowing for town limit is getting worse. On AP, ‘recognised’ speed limits tend to be ignored and rarely obeyed. No blind spot WARNING system and now the threat of no indicator stalk which will rule out an updated tesla. Regular OTA updates go nowhere ‘out here’ and a new OS talk is just that.

It sounds very much as though you are still in the early stages of autopilot development just as we in Canada were a year or two ago. I can promise you that continuous improvement in our country has made it very good indeed, and I have no doubt that yours will also improve over time. I guess it’s a lot like watching a kid grow up. They also never say that the software , like Apple IPhones , is so easy to use, compared to other electric vehicles, and the software updates, again like Apple, give you improvements that you didn’t know you needed, but make the operation so much easier. This is something that no one ever mentions, yet is my favorite thing about owning a Tesla, like owning my iPhone and iPad…

Peter, the EPA publishes est. MPG/KPL for ICE vehicles, not Range estimates. You never see EV’s promoting Wh per mile because it sounds horrible to say 3.0 - 4.5 wh per mile from a psychological standpoint. Instead the focus on publishing MPGe because those big numbers sound so much better from a marketing standpoint. As always a Great video 😅 Thank You🙏🏻
@Resist4
@Resist4 Жыл бұрын
The problem is that the EPA doesn't always test the vehicles and most of the time takes the word of the car manufacturer. And, an EV losing range much faster than an ICE vehicle due to battery degradation with just time,. Normally after the first year it drops quickly, mine certainly has and it only has around 25k miles on it but is closing in on 5 years old. I used to get the rated 310 miles of range consistently during year one. Now I'm lucky if I get 275 miles, under the same conditions. But I do agree that this story is just FUD. I love the tires wearing out faster report. It forgot to mention that big 4x4 truck tires and RV tires wear out faster too. lol. I have Tesla insurance and it's not that much lower than from my previous insurance company. In fact, my Tesla premiums keep going up and the safety score isn't used in my State. Okay, you know this one time amnesty of FSD transfer is not a good deal because Elon wants us to buy the current inventory and not get the new refresh that is around the corner, with the better hardware. Sure that's business I get it but come on, FSD should be allowed to transfer to a new vehicle especially if your car is totaled in an accident. And if not because of an accident, then charge no more than say a $200 transfer fee. But I think down the road the plan for FSD will be a subscription based thing. I bought FSD back in 2019 because I liked the idea of getting the free hardware upgrades. But now my car can't get upgraded anymore and that sucks. You'd think they would at least give me the better cameras with no light bleed in the repeaters at night, but no.
