Vince LoBosco and Paul Drago take us on a visit through racing history, detailing their superb models of the Pure Heaven II Altered (in honor of Jim Devine), the Back-up Pickup wheel stander exhibition car, the #28 Fred Lorenzen Galaxie, and the Don Garlits Wynn's Jammer dragster. Stories of race tracks, the 1964 World's Fair, and the Aurora Guillotine. Plus a gluing tip! Recorded in October, 2021 at the HVHMG-IPMS show in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Awesome models! I'm 61 and have been building models since I was 10. I miss those hobby shops with walls of model kits. I would stand for an hour going over them all.

You guys mentioned everything I remember from great times during my childhood... NHRA racing at Englishtown, The Worlds Fair, Little Red Wagon, AFX, slot cars, and so much more! Especially Paul Drago. Oh- the Guillotine model. Muscle cars baby! Same here- if it wasn't a car model, particularly a hot rod, dragster or rod & custom show car, I wasn't interested! And wow- that Don Garlits WynnsJammer diorama! Vince's "Pure Heaven II"- what beautiful builds here...what fantastic detailing. I built a lot of car models in my day... always looked forward to going to a true quality level ... you guys are like champions to try to emulate!

What a great video! I would sit a the kitchen table with my mother and father and build models; that’s what got me started. And the slot car thing and the drags, that was our life what a great memory! Thanks. I still build but I’m not as good as you guys. It’s fun. Thanks again.

Really nice video. And I appreciate the lack of extraneous jerky edits during the dialog as had been present in previous videos. There were a few at first, and I almost turned it off, but I stuck with it, and I'm glad I did, as the edits went away and the conversations were much more enjoyable in their natural flow. Thanks for posting, I look forward to seeing more.

I remember seeing that backup wheelstander run at one of our “local” dragstrips back in the day ( early 70’s?) . I remember there being a few different wheelstanders that day and night actually, including the Little Red Wagon, along with several several others which I can’t remember which ones now, but I remember the original backup and little red wagon. I’ve seen Wild Willie Borsch run that outlaw or whatever he called it, but he ran against my Uncles buddies, the Feltner Bros.., oh they had something similar to Wild Willie Borsch’s car there.

I'm like these guys age 30 built first model when I was 7 with my dad we built the munsters koach. It was a original Munsters koach kit to back when we built it. My dad and his older brother grew up very poor but they built hundreds of amazing models as kids and teens and won tons of shows local and nationaly and slot cars as well. I also grew up driving real fast circle track asphalt cars because my mom started racing and then I started racing when I was eight in a full size car 8 years old and a four-cylinder mustang that turned 9500 RPMs around the track

Like the Wynns Jammer/ Garlits diorama. How hard was it to get a color copy of Mr. Garlits in 1:25 scale ? Thanks in advance.
@pauldrago6008
@pauldrago6008 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments Gordon. The photos used for reference were published in HOT ROD magazine in 1964. Somewhere on the internet there was a COLOR photo of the same shot. I made a copy of that photo, separated Mr. Garlits, and made "clones" of Don, in many sizes, until ultimately the scale looked correct. That photo is the only part of the model that is not 3-D. With today's technology I'm sure I can get a 3D printed replica of Don, but fact is I don't think I can paint it as accurate! I will have to ask my military modeling friends to help out with the painting. now THERE'S an amazing skill all on its own. Thanks, Paul

Why do the tires in old kits always end up marking the windshields? A mystery never to be solved.
@pauldrago6008
@pauldrago6008 2 жыл бұрын
Hi David: from what I understand , model tires ( mostly now made of a vinyl or polypropylene) tires are made of several compounds and chemicals known as plasticizers are added to keep it flexible and soft. Plasticizers are notorious for being unstable and under long term storage situations can migrate out of the rubber or vinyl. The marking on the clear plastic is evidence of such chemical migration. Vinyl is notorious for having that unwanted quality. Ive had quite a few kits nearly ruined, so if you plan on storing any kits for a long time, best to keep tires and any vinyl / rubber parts in a seperate plastic bag. Thanks. Paul
