I have converted very well to 2.8 but there were two things that were changed that I couldn't find (or didn't like) the 2.8 alternative. The first was space bar playing the timeline instead of search. This was driving me crazy as f3 is just so much clunkier (to me). In the first minute of this video you showed how to change that back. Great! The second was the vertex/edge/face select modes. Used to be ctrl-tab to bring up the little menu, select, done! That was removed in 2.8 and I just couldn't find ANYthing about how to either bring it back or where it was moved to in 2.8. Then voila! Roughly 3 minutes into this video you showed the new method for that as well! I'm a total 2.8 convert now! I think the Blender Foundation owes you something :D Keep up the great work!

If anyone have an Even Thickness problem (when using Alt+S) then you need to apply transforms, in object mode select the box an press Ctrl+A, then choose "All transforms"

You are correct. By default box selection is active. Optionally by pressing "W" you change selection modes. If you change modes than you will have to press "B" to box select.

Actually its not a beautiful tutorial. Its extremely complex for a treasure chest lol. I mean , if you plan to include this in a videogame, you are going to get really dissapointed. Because for a start, its not a low poly model (well if you only inlcude one chest in the game, sure, but if you plan to keep adding chests... you just cant).

Why is the Alt+S not working proprietly? It scales different sizes for me
@mp51565 жыл бұрын
You almost definitely scaled the initial cube for the box in object mode. This makes the scaling work differently. If you go to object mode and click on the box, and hit the n key and look at the item tab on top right, look at scale, it will probably say 1.8 on x So note if you scaled in object mode, you can hit ctrl + a and click apply scale, and it will set all scales to 1.0, so that the result you get in edit mode is what you are expecting. And also if you have any problems with the top, you should note he left the pivot to active element, which depending on what you do and how you select things could give you an undesired effect to the scaling. Active element pivot point should only be used if you know that is exactly where you want to scale from.
@gower19735 жыл бұрын
Apply your scale on the transform, you have non uniform scaling because the X,Y, Z are not one, Its a common mistake for Blender beginners, also check that you dont have flipped normals, as it will try to scale in the normal direction

"To make thickness" The extrusion and scaling created overlapping faces. Why not use the solidify modifier? Not to mention you intentionally created a poly with 5 verts which breaks a lot of useful tools. Not something you should be teaching people. Always use 4 verts for Blender. You also duplicated a lot of work unnecessarily, instead of teaching the mirror modifier. Etc Etc. Guy is teaching many "Not the best" way to do things... and then charges for it. -_-

The author keeps saying this is a low poly chest, its not. Unfortunately. He even tries to make dents on the metallic parts and the planks using the knife tool!!!!!!! really??? dude thats done using just a texture and a bump map at most when working on low poly models!!!! also he keeps assuming we know all the steps and the measures of all parts and you will realize you need to go back many times to adjust your measures because he didnt even bother to explain why some things need to have this size or whatever. Sadly i was really excited about this tutorial, but as always there are many many things that need to be improved about it. And specially for those who are looking for a low-poly chest, this is not it, a chest with so many faces is not a low poly chest. I guess the author was clueless about what "low poly" means. Also he keep saying things like "try your best to connect vertex to vertex to keep the topology" and then he doesnt care if we have ngons everywhere LOL. He also avoids many steps through the videos, like deleting the opposite part of the keyhole that we dont need, like aplying the mirror modifyier to make more dents, things that sure, are obvious, but you dont know for sure if you should be doing them or not, until you find three videos later that he did those and many other things. And beginners are not so "clever" if they are learning blender dude. Terrible. I had to avoid all the steps about making details on the planks and the metallic parts with the knife tool because i wanted this chest to be FOR A VIDEOGAME. And of course, it has already too many faces to be doable to a videoame, where im going to spawn many chests at once. Next time dude, dont say its a low poly chest, YOU ARE CONFUSING PEOPLE. I mean one of th emost stupid tings i saw on this video is to make the plank cracks with actual extra geometry... i mean , seriously????? dude, not even high poly models do that. All that is done just with a texture and a good bump / height map unless you are making this model specifically for render and showroom purposes. Also, sharing object data doesnt work most of the times, those steps are completely useless. You are clueless about how to make low poly models.... thist utorial looks good on paper, but in reality is pure garbaje. AS many CGcookie ones. I just wish people were smart and will look for other great channels on youtube that are far better than cgcookie specially if you are looking for beginner ones.
