I think that when children turn out “fine” we tend to forget or overlook all the messed up things their parents/family/people in general, did to them, which we shouldn’t. Honestly the fact that Haley succeeded in the end (if we ignore the last season) and didn’t end up with crippling self esteem issues and hatred towards her sister despite of how much she was made fun of is impressive in its own right.

It’s actually a horrific thing about life. The more you work and suffer and strive to be better, the LESS people believe you that anything bad happened. And if you sat down and asked people “oh okay so you think this brilliant intelligent talented well put together person is simply lying about everything?” And they said “yeah they must be!” It would be great if then you could say “ah so horrible atrocities must have happened for them to be a pathological liar right?” But even that doesn’t click for people. People cannot process that anyone they envy and feel threatened by had it worse than them. They simply cannot. Therapists can’t, families can’t, judges and juries can’t. They just cannot.

@@nataliaalfonso2662I don't think it's true that people can't fathom this but but I appreciate you bringing up this New perspective. @@mr.e7541 I’m going to reiterate the main point of my statement: PEOPLE CANNOT PROCESS THIS ASPECT OF REALITY. They also cannot process how little people can process this. It IS TRUE. And only someone who cannot process what I’m saying would say it isn’t true. It is true. I’m not saying anything total, or all encompassing. It’s 100% true that people can’t process this fact of life. I didn’t say “every single person is incapable.” Clearly I think I’m someone that can process it. There are others. But the main point of my statement is that people cannot process reality. They cannot process trauma in the first place, and REALLY cannot process that someone can be severely traumatized and still better than others in myriad ways. You didn’t even process my statement. I assure you you cannot process the over arching truth I was referencing at all. If you could, you’d realize how often it’s true. You’d know…. Anything about life. You’d know it would be odd to argue that people can’t process reality. If you could process reality, you’d know MOST PEOPLR truly cannot. And you’d realize I never said “all people” so my statement would be perfectly true if even 2 people on earth couldn’t process it. Or at least one of each demographic example I gave. All it would take for my statement to be sound and valid and PERFECTLY TRUE would be ONE person from each example I gave to not process that very traumatized people can often seem better off than others. And that’s not the truth. In truth MOST people of every demographic example I gave and all others cannot process trauma or how resilient the truly traumatized can be. But, since your inability to process the truth makes you think people certainly must be able to process the truth…. You will continue to be the people I was referring to in my initial comment. The ones who can’t fathom quite how clueless the mass majority of people are.

Street smarts in Haley who has emotional intelligence and wit and charm and charisma and this little life hacks that help a person get by and navigate the world and book smarts in Alex who has the academic intelligence needed to be a high achiever but both sisters need each other to bring that balance in the world so while they are very opposite when we see those sisterly moments between the two they are genuine because both know that they need each other. They are each others opposite and equal in all ways. And by being essentially two sides of the same coin it meant that Luke could just be Luke and that quite freeing.

The unsupportive and down right mean attitude I received from my older two siblings was over-bearing. They couldn't stand my unconventional approach I choose to build a beautiful future for myself. I'm working towards an associate's in computer science and really enjoy the work. To see someone like Haley facing this type of opposition and pressure is meaningful to me. You are also only experiencing life to the extent your 12 year old self could image. In short, when you get to the destination you won't be impressed & wont remember much of the journey. Secondly, social/interpersonal skills are more important than every other skill combined. There isn't a door that skill can't open
