All nice on this build except for that afterthought of a closet upsize - it looks horrid sticking out into the deck and when you look up at the beautiful wood ceiling seeing the closet stick out looks downright bad. I would seriously suggest going back to the original plan😮

My brother, brother-in-law, and I just installed a new sliding door and small deck on my 100 year old house over Thanksgiving. I started watching your videos a few months ago and have learned so much. Especially the lingo. My brother is a certified handy man, doing electrical, framing, roofing, finish work, custom cabinets and just about anything else. He was so impressed with my knowledge. He said to tell you guys, "Thanks!" for making his 61 year old sister smarter and a much better helper!

My understanding of window installation is that you are not supposed to sink the nails tight to allow for expansion and contraction. That's why the flange holes are slotted .

Love your videos guys! Keep it coming! About the fill on those posts, I know they're rated for ground contact but they will still last significantly longer if they have zero ground contact. I would advise planning the piers to a finished height just above final grade and using a mounting system that keeps the post from contacting the pier directly. Especially on a deck of this scale. The extra planning could give it decades more life.

I built a home 4 years ago using all the Zip System for flooring , walls, and roof. It's a great product that helped in getting a very tight home that meet the passive home standards. The roofing membrane is a new product and not offered during my build. It takes a lot of zip tape to finish a home. All the Zip System products were special ordered and it took time to get it.

the facia looks beautiful! this is turning into a gorgeous home (though what else could it be) FUN FACT: the North Pole is farther away from us in North America than it's been in thousands of years due to the polar shift. when the shift completes, "north" and "south" are expected to be around what is now the equator. we are unsure exactly how it might affect earth's spin. yay, science!

Have you seen the windows in / from Germany? all of them will open inwards (makes it easier to clean) or tip to allow airflow. You can also get a shutter / shade with it to block off the sun or make the room completely dark. Plus they are more energy efficient. the shutters can be lifted encase the Fire Department needs to get in, so they are not security blinds. Great windows, I know there was a Polish or Cech importation company in GA that was bringing them in a few years ago.

The zip shield went down really well on the roof, you guys must be pleased. Jay is like the Duracell Bunny, point him where to work and off he goes. Corrugated wavy as cladding will be very interesting to see how that goes up, I am intrigued. At the house I was born at 10 years after WW2 was over, we still had an Anderson air raid shelter in the back garden. They were basically steel corrugated wavy sheets rolled into an arch with earth piled up and the open ends one had a wooden end with the door and was shielded by a wall of corrugated. The other end was a wooden wall with earth piled up. Great post, take care 👍 🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨

I am a little surprised you guys don't wrap the window openings completely in Zip siding, just increasing the ruff openings to accommodate the zip ply. Then tape all the edges. I have been using AG1 for about a month now. It doesn't taste bad but I mix it with Bai water now and it is even better as far as taste goes. For that siding you may call R&R builders for pointers. But this is looking beautiful. Happy Thanksgiving guys

Such a big difference in windows from country to country. Also considering where you are, it actually gets cold. Im quite amazed how badly insulated those windows look to be. They remind me more of windows for a shed or summer only home where freezing temps are not a issue. Usually windows here in Sweden are mounted like door frames, thick frames and shims and then stuff it with rockwool around the edges while the frame is screwed in, like a door frame.

Two pro tips that will help with setting windows. First, use a laser level. This lets you check level and plumb lines regardless of any defects from the manufacturer. Second, if they have a built in extension jamb, use your prybar and a small piece of sheet rock to ensure the jambs are going to be flush with the sheet rock and make installation of your casing easier. Then you use trim screws through your shims to hold the window frame and keep it from bowing in when you spray foam around the window.

Idk if it's worth the effort, but maybe you could paint the parts of the TP posts that touch the soil with a clear, surface-sealing paint. It would slow/prevent water ingress after the rain and the water that got in evaporates through the parts above the soil. And the clear paint would go unnoticed if the soil were to be washed away.
