I'm a T1 diabetic too, and I've been in the hospital several times for DKA. Glad Ray is doing OK!! I'm always amazed at how hard he works physically with that constant drip of insulin. I know how hard a balancing act that is to maintain good glucose levels while under strain!

Happy for Ray's speedy recovery. FYI if you get a hand squeegee it makes quick work of cleaning up your spray shield, you could even clean it off into a bucket and use it for touch up.

When the shield gets too thick with paint, hand it to the person that is cutting in and get them to semi dry it off. Save on dirty rags and wastage of paint as well. This episode had me smiling more than usual. Good job fellas.

A quick trick for your big pain shield is to keep some Reynolds Press and Seal handy. Put a layer of it on and then you can just peel it off and put a new layer on. Keeps the shield free of paint build up.

I lived with a Type 1 diabetic roommate for 5 years and had to call EMT's 2x for him when he went into DKA. Both times he had been ill with some other kind of bug for a day or so beforehand. The first time it happened, I was only able to recognize the gravity of the situation due to having read, in my early teen years, a book series about a young girl who decided to become a nurse. In one of the books she described a patient who showed symptoms of being extremely drunk: slurred speech, unfocused eyes, unsteady body motions, and most of all, exhaled breath that smelled like alcohol. Forty years later I recognized the same symptoms in my roommate and so called the EMT's. After that first time, I did some research on DKA and found out there is a kit one can buy at just about any drugstore that tests urine for the presence of ketones, and it's very simple to use (if expensive). The diabetic just pees on a little strip of treated paper, then matches the color of the paper with a color code on the side of the little container that holds the unused strips. I bullied him into buying a kit and next time I suspected he was in DKA, had him use the kit. Sure enough, it was time to call the EMT's again. It's a very dangerous, life-threatening situation, not really something to joke about, and even if caught and treated early after onset, can cause permanent damage to internal organs. I'm glad Ray recognized he was in trouble and was able to get himself to medical care in time to save his life, and also glad he is recovering well. If he doesn't yet gave one of those ketone testing kits, might be a good idea to acquire one...

Pro tip: get used to spraying with fan horizontal instead of vertical, you get much better, more precise control. Just rotate tip 90 degrees. Thanks for all your postings, you guys are great!!
