I just want to give a personal thanks for uploading all your shows to KZbin. I have a rare disease called menieres disease which means I am stuck in bed a lot with severe vertigo. I left the UK 8 years ago and had no idea you had started a tv show, I was a fan of your early stand up shows before moving. Listening to your uploads on KZbin is really helping me get through a super tough time stuck in bed. Even achieving smiles and laughs in a very tough time. THANK YOU SO MUCH X

These daytime TV shows are full of what I call "introduction telly". These shows are constantly introducing you to the next wee snippet of story. They run two or three stories at a time and switch between them. On each switch, they re-introduce you to the story, telling you information _you already have._ They then go on to show an extremely short bit of new story before setting up a dilemma and switching to one of the other stories. Of course, they set up the dilemma as seemingly insurmountable, but in the next segment, the resolution to the impossible dilemma turns out to be (to borrow a catchphrase) super easy, barely an inconvenience. I reckon that if you took a 60 minute show, about 45 mins without ad breaks, took each story, swapped all the segments round so each is shown contiguously and stripped out all the redundant re-introductions and other padding, you would end up with about 15 to 20 minutes of actual material.

meson1 How right you are! But unfortunately that wouldn’t make it a long enough show. Ever heard of Deal or no Deal? It is hosted by Noel Edmonds. If you got rid of all the deliberating and pissing about you could actually have two shows in the time it takes to do one! Can’t stand this wasting of tv time. If I watch it I pause it for anything up to about half an hour then skip through to see the boxes being opened.

"Surprises can not be monetised", but there are products available where you do not know the contents until you open the box/bag. I remember as a kid in the 80's getting a surprise bag from the local news agent for a set price, you did not know what sweets were inside it until you opened the bag. And today I get Loot Crates sent to me. They have set themes but other than that you do not know what will be in the box until you open it. It is quite possible to monetise surprises.
@rewrose2838
@rewrose2838 4 жыл бұрын
I do not think you buy the LootCrates _for their surprises_ Would you not buy them still if you knew exactly what was in the box, without any change in the prices and stuff? I think what Dave is trying to argue for is something more along the lines of clickbait-ey surprise.

I can not believe what just happened to me. The moment he started talking about a random piece of pop music fading in to highlight a specific word "Baby I'm Yours" started playing. But then it didn't stop once he'd seemingly emphasised an important word. Then it turned into "There's a Platypus Controlling me" from Phineas and Ferb. It was at that point I realised that with absolutely perfect timing with what Dave was saying, in another tab "Baby I'm Yours But There's A Platypus Controlling Me" started playing.

Maybe I'm just feeling a bit low at the moment, but I find the celebrity video message thing terribly sad. It brings home just how fragile success and fame are, and explains why even the world's biggest stars (in all fields) often come across as anxious and insecure in interviews about their latest project. Even if it's wildly successful, after it, they'll be... 'resting'. Sitting in their magnificent mansions or their crappy little flats, waiting for the bloody phone to ring. I love the video, but seeing 'celebrities' listed with prices by their names made me want to cry.

I want to know what corners of youtube Dave is visiting, because all the places I've been to are full of clickbait hype that's barely connected to the story in the video, let alone revealing all the surprises. Also, after watching fiction TV for a few years with every single season ending in a cliffhanger, and reading several multi-book series where cliffhangers were rampant (Screw you, Robert Jordan!!) I'm sick of surprise and suspense. If you need to use surprise or suspense to make a story, video, or whatever interesting, it's not worth watching.

It bugs me that the 4 segments are not equal in length. They should all be 12 mins and some odd seconds, but the first two are only about 10 minutes each.

I'm so pleased they've stopped seating audience members behind the string quartet for this series. It was giving me anxiety when watching series 2.

Dave Gorman, spending 500 quid on Celebrity VM, when most of those celebs are already on the same network and he could probably just... ask them to do it for him. But where's the fun in that?

He, or the production company probably did ask them and got them for free too. But making out he paid for them is funnier.

The hexadecagon rant is just wrong in every single way. Of course it's perfectly fine to speak about the 2d projection of a 3d object, happens all the time. And yes, the part of "English" he's using is of course the mathematical part. But finally when Dave says that the house is *not* a hexadecagon, he doesn't elaborate but I suspect he has issue with that, from what I can tell, it's not a *regular* hexadecagon.
