Modern doesn't mean new.. modern art was made in the 1920s for example... WWI is modern warfare even though most tactics and weapons from that war are obsolete.. modern simply means differing from a classically accepted style, a new start if you will

Looks like your "new metal" is literally 'nu metal', a7x maaaaybe being an exception. Which it's just about dead these days with a couple of big name bands from the early 2000s trying to capitalize on the former glory. There are tons of new bands out there that play actual metal from doom to folk to old school death to tech death etc etc.

Classic metal has some great melodies that just make you relaxed imo.. Great exercise music.. Where as modern is definitely what you want for head banging action..
