Evening Michael. When out at my farm, I do go minimalistic when patrolling my farm, usually just a chest rig and small day pack. Will not go out without 9 mags at the least for primary and 4 mags for sidearm. Half my property is forested, the other half is basically flat farmland. Around the area neighboring farms, they have been seeing strangers in the area, so the two adult grandsons from my oldest daughter and my son-in-law and middle daughter, all carry now on property and the boys do patrol when I'm not out at the farm. For this last year, I have been having the feeling for us to wear our plate carriers, but haven't started yet...just lazy I guess and should get over that or be sorry. Anyway, being ready at a moments notice, geared up and ready to go is what your video is about and it takes practice and planning just like any other task we do. Good video.

Some of this just seems to be more of the 'full loadout' videos I've seen. If we're talking a basic-bob rifle-only loadout for someone who's not of the 'tactical world' who may be running on a limited budget, this might be a turnoff. Remember, the minuteman had to ready quickly. Too much gear, especially if they're not familiar with it will just encourage them to not train or practice. For those, a Keep It Simple, Stoopid approach might be the wiser course. That said: for newbies a KISS rifle like a WASR or H&R Retro AR15 with fixed sights is a good start but can be accessorized later. Cargo pants, long sleeve button up shirt and boonie hat in earth tones are good enough. Mechanix gloves with the robust grips (not the thin ones which wear out quick) can be found at any walmart; or you can order OD green flight gloves, which work great, too. Basic eye pro and ear pro from the sporting section is good enough for most. Plate carriers plus plates can be pretty pricey, even if you get an el-cheapo one that's only $100. I'd say either a simple vest (like a condor MOLLE vest, or surplus FLC or CHICOM chest rig) or belt with MOLLE or ALICE pouches that can hold at least five or six mags. North American Rescue IFAKs can be pricey, but they're the real deal. Multitool. Solid hiking boots (Columbia and Merrel are good). Nalgene bottle or the 1-qt GI canteen are good enough and can be attached to anything but even a simple camelbak will get the job done. Food wise: power bars, meal bars, beef jerky are good quickies; for rations a 10-pack of the humanitarian rations costs about $50 less than a 12-pack of MREs, or you can stock up on Mountain House or O-Meals (which can be cooked quickly with just water added like an MRE).

Thinking about the base gear for the minuteman, I think we need to change our expectations a little bit. A minuteman response should be the gear you can get on and be ready in 5 minutes no matter where you are. If something serious kicks off then we are going to have to work with people who have widely different amounts of gear, knowledge and training. Say an event happens and a quick group forms, first thing would need to be finding out what everyone actually has, what that level of gear allows the group to do and then make a quick course of action. In this fictional event a team of 6 happens of strangers. 4 have everyday carry subcompact pistol and 1 or 2 magazines, farmer with a 30-30 and box of shells and a dude with an AR-15 and seven mags and armor. This quick group can be effective but acting as an infantry unit is not the way. Basic gear I want to see is 3 days of food and water, 60 rounds of ammo, long gun and trauma kit.
@woodsghost90884 ай бұрын
3 Days of food? 60 rounds? That depends heavily on your context. I'm not saying you are wrong. Or right. Just saying "it's context dependent."
@Ovokor4 ай бұрын
@@woodsghost9088 My proof for food is easy enough, for a weekend go on a hiking trip complete with Peak Refuel enough to last 3 days. The following weekend attempt the same thing but not have all that food. Your going to be wishing you had that food, logistics keep people alive and alert. 60 rounds the normal load out for many nations for a significant period of history. Now this started to change when people started to carry semi-autos. The initial ammo count for a ww2 US warfighter was 88 rounds. They had 10 pouches with 8 rounds.
@woodsghost90884 ай бұрын
@@Ovokor thank you for the response. My opinion is it's still context dependent. MM may be 12 hours on site, or 7 days. It may only need 60 rounds, but more may be required. 60 rounds is about a 60% solution. 210 rounds is more like a 95% solution. 420 rounds is where you start to hit a 99.9% solution. So there is the law of diminishing returns. And I don't dispute that 60 rounds handles most (51% or more) situations. But I want a solution that tracks closer to 100% of situations than 60 rounds does. And I've been starving while in a lot of crazy situations. Water and electrolytes are what I need the most. Otherwise, 500+ calories a day of animal fats and proteins really keeps the edge off and does boost performance. More is always more better. But the key point is "MM minimum." I posted (elsewhere under this video) that food really isn't in the minimum requirements. It IS a nice to have and depending on the mission, can be vital.
@Ovokor4 ай бұрын
@@woodsghost9088 Optimally yes 14 mags would be nice but I am finding that idea completely unrealistic. To be a MM that means that person must be able to be ready in 5 minutes so what their kit that they consistently keep near them, not go home and kit up. In casual chats I have yet to meet anyone who has 7 mags of pistol and rifle combined. I personally rather go with a small group of guys all with a mag in and a single pocket reload vs. that one guy who may not be around with lots of ammo. After watching some vehicle based backpack guns and set ups, often they only have 2-3 mags and sometimes they are are in 20 round mags not standard sized. Stokermatic I would love to be on his team; I think his truck gun is a pump shotgun, Battle Gnome from warrior poet I think just has a Glock with no reloads. This is also running into the causal debate of Tactical gear as priority or is sustainment gear as priority.
@woodsghost90884 ай бұрын
@@Ovokor you are on the money with "is this about bullets or sustainment?" And that is why I pressed you with "context matters." I typed this in another thread but right now I think the minimum MM kit is: Knife Pistol TQ Bottle of water Whistle Flashlight Good pair of shoes and socks And after that, it is "nice to haves" or "mission dependent gear." And you can disagree with me. On the guys with truck setups, there is a difference between "what people are doing" and "what is best." At one time, people were packing wasp spray to be a pepper spray alternative which isn't controlled by law the way pepper spray is in some states/countries. It was Internet Gold Standard that this was a good idea. Most every prepper said so. Then after about 3 years of this Wisdom, someone filmed himself getting doused with wasp spray and he was pretty much unaffected. Probably poisoned, but no pepper spray type effect. One can take what others do as a starting point. But then you have to let the rubber hit the road and probably change. What does 3 mags accomplish? On an active shooter? Probably a lot. What about a Korean rooftop? Probably less. So I think you can put some thought into what, exactly, you think MM will be called to and go plan for that. Just my thoughts. Worth what you paid for them.

@@KylerLikesGuns tis the beauty of danglers on a chest rig...you can have water, ifak and admin without hanging shit off your side or wearing a "battle belt". That doesn't mean you don't still have a pack with water. What you have on the rig/belt is for emergency use in case you have to dump the pack. The point is that you should have the basics both in your pack and on you or your base rig, whether it be belt or chest (or both) - water, ammo, ifak, cutting tool, compass, and yes, food (skittles in your pocket, bro). Shelter and/or wind/water layer too. It's why I prefer belt kit over a chest rig if I am larping as a grunt - I can carry a lot more ammo and enough shit to sustain me for a spell if I have to dump the pack. Chest rig is for the mobile vehicular high speed operational operator larping kit. One is none, two is one. Call me a boomer, just don't call me late for supper.
