I mean, corporations having control over music publishing has been a thing since the radio era. Back then, the tools they were misusing were the record contracts that would put the artist in perpetual debt unless they're insanely lucky. Now, it's that PLUS the relatively new practice of falsely flagging videos that are fair use for copyright claiming/striking. I get what you're saying, but let's not kid ourselves in romanticising the past, when there was far less avenues for independent artists to platform their music. Money controlling music is a tale as old as time(even in an super traditional genre like Carnatic music, kings would want to bribe the artist to make songs about them).
