Mr Landberg! This is one of the best looking shower niches we’ve seen. The tile is sleek, the design is modern. Miter edges look awesome 👊🏼 definitely pulling some inspiration for the future 💪🏼

Shouldn't the bottom sill have been put in first so the back tile would sit on it allowing for better drainage?

Where you have a small gap that is not filled, would the water travel in a small crack by capillary action anyway? I am guessing the important thing is to have a gap for a flexible sealant.

I actually wanted a clean look like this but with my cheap ceramic 3/8 inch tile I was afraid that even with a good grout line that the edge might chip over time - so passed on it, but yes good to see it done this way as I wasn't sure it would work. I would also put the tiles in a different order for the waterfall effect of water not getting in behind the tiles.

From a waterproofing standpoint that just makes sense... not that this job will fail because of it but some people put too much faith in the waterproofing below that they forget your last chance to keep water from getting to the waterproofing is in how the tile gets laid

Personally I think it would look better if the sill protruded a fraction to hide that outside join because the join is not perfect and there will be yellowing of the grout in future. The sill would also need to be slightly bevelled top and bottom.

I've been doing bathrooms for over 10 years and this is my least favorite thing to do besides grouting and sanding. Even worse when they want two of them side by side.... mind you i am not a career tiler and don't have all the pro tools for tiling, just the basics to reno a whole bathroom. Not to say my tiling isn't good, just that it takes me way longer than it probably would if i had more tools at my disposal.
