Thank you James for making such informative content like this. Your animation classes are a steal as well with how low you price them! I don't wanna sound too much like a bot advertisement account, but I love the way you teach and break things down. I highly urge anyone who is considering getting one or two of James' classes/recordings to buy them. I'm currently learning through his animation basics 2023 videos and this combined with the Animator's survival kit have taught me a lot in regard to animation. Please support content creator's like James so we can continue to learn from them!

That was such a simple yet highly effective explanation of foreshortening. Videos like this are so important, because young artists often focus on all the cool details and lighting of their favorite artists, but it’s these basic key fundamentals, that anyone can learn fairly easy with practice, that make up 90 percent of how effective their art will actually be, independent of style. If you can build a house, than painting and putting furniture in it will be the easy part. Thanks MDJ!

I wish this guy had more reach because for me he is the most informative not just animator but also artist on KZbin, and sadly KZbin rewards quantity over quality which is really unfortunate

Studying MDJ’s guidance on advanced perspective then diving into Scott Robertson’s teachings improved everything I do ten fold. The, “here’s how you copy reference then change it enough to call it yours” channels are overwhelmingly popular. Sad so many people are spending years learning nothing…

Not really, my immediate thought was the same. But I realized it's just a preference. And the people that make those videos get requested by fans to have their art "roasted". So it's all good...unless they didn't consent

glad that james is "indirectly" calling out some artists that are literally just doing content for the sake of content (which is fine but mid) instead making it educational and rich in quality like james and many other great but definitely smaller creators

I mean most of them are just KZbin clowns - they make their living on reactionary bullsh*t. Can't be mad at them for just wanting to make a living. If someone is genuinely serious about art you watch things like Proko, New Master's Academy, etc.

oh! this is such a great shoutout for foreshortening usage! especially by separating it between simply overlap vs close proximity distortion i know there might be a big misconception that the scale "must be bigger" when the object closer to the camera while the thing is this scale change would only visible when the object is "close enough" to the camera otherwise this scale change wont much visible thanks for sharing this information! 😄

Art for clout vs art for learning. I want to learn art but not it be a career..yet.... I am subscribed here because you are art for learning. Knowing the difference will definitely grow one's skills as a new or intermediate artist. In 2020 I had to find the difference between the two to make my art skills grow from absolutely nothing to something. I actually got pretty decent after 1 year from nothing and posted a self portrait of my skills. There's a lot of flaws in it but I still stand by that. I haven't posted in a while because I need to build up another skill and find a higher paying job. I found that most art for learning YT channels were traditional artist and some digital artists. (Like yourself) Knowing this, knowing how to learn, and having unlimited time when I moved in with my parents during the pandemic; my art skills get better within a year. Now I am looking to bring my ideas to life. I have the skills to do it but top priority is getting a higher paying job. For now all I can do is watch the right YT videos. This channel is one of the right channel. in the sea of clout chasers.

@@Eizengoldt Oh, seems like he did- likely for good reasons. if you want a quick summary, he was saying how he will post at a rythm that suits him ; doesn't want to please a youtube schedule or art community trends for a quick gain that go against his own values. He wants to focus on being an educator, not an entertainer.
