Setsuna/Sailor Pluto is also the oldest Sailor Senshi, so her clothing would be more sophisticated than the rest of the squad. She was also assigned to guard the Space-Time Door, so Maybe Naoko also chose the dress because the chains could symbolize her essentially being trapped in her duty.

I love that people do their own diy versions of high fashion. Modest people have the same right to look glamorous as rich people. Our grandmas used to sew their own dreamdresses because they couldn't afford them even in their wildest dreams and they wanted to look beautiful at least sometimes when they weren't working hard as hell. It's nothing to be ashamed of. I hope as a trend it stays.

I love the chain dress. The way the chains drape, especially over the hips, reminds me of the mantua gown. It’s such a gorgeous detail. I’ve always loved Chanel. They managed to mix old world glamour and tradition without ever getting too old or frumpy. I mean, I could wear a boucle suit (not that I could afford it) from the 60s and immediately look chic and stunning. No change necessary. Everything just holds up. I just wish Coco hadn’t been a Nazi supporter. That’s a bit of a downer.

Although it’s not a iconic fashion moment, I would love to see a video with your take on the practice of pitting styles against one another, i.e. those horrifying “who wore it best” polls from the US weekly days of the 2000s.
@Buzz0Killington
@Buzz0Killington 3 жыл бұрын
@Sam Paulson ModernGurlz definitely recognizes a bad and unflattering trend when there’s one to be recognized but I think she appreciates how different people can bring their own flavor to the same dress or piece of clothing. Those “Who wore it best” comparisons always pit women against each other even when they both looked perfectly fine. I’m also wondering if there are any trends to take note of with who was typically awarded as best? Did age, race and weight have any influence? I suspect they may have.

@@chocolateperfume752 I may not be the best person to answer this, but I'll try my best. Camp is not just ridiculous. Camp is not just big. Camp is taking something we find unappealing and we make it work. oh my dad hated my guts for being "feminine"? now I have huge heels and i sway my body like a maracas as I walk with the street as my runway and the car lights as my spotlight. oh wearing make up makes us a "sissy" and "fake"? then let's use the gaudiest, brightest, and sexiest colors and throw them all in our face until we dont look human anymore. this is just one definition of camp but it is my favorite because it explains why it seems like gay people tends to like being flamboyant and feminine.

I think another aspect of this dress's popularity on TikTok, specifically among people making designer dupes and upcycling, is that from a design standpoint it's relatively simple to recreate on a budget. The base is a black dress with a fitted bodice & sleek skirt, which is easy to make with a relatively small amount of fabric and/or modify an op shop dress into. After that, it's basically just some strategically placed gold chains, which are so easy to find/make with either secondhand jewellery, Halloween decorations & spray paint, or any other similar thing. Plus some broaches and you're good. It has a simple elegance that is (in my opinion) universally wearable and appealing, which is part of the genius of the design.

I love the Chanel chain dress. It hints at the vast Chanel costume jewelry collection, but it also pays homage to one of Chanel’s earliest breakthrough fashions: the cardigan jacket/suit. It seemed like such an uncomplicated design, but it is a fine example of Coco’s understanding of a well made/ well tailored garment. In her cardigan jacket design, she incorporated a chain sewn along the inside hem of the jacket, thus adding subtle weight to the bottom and giving hidden structure to the simple silhouette. It wasn’t the first time a designer added weight to the bottom of a garment (or draperies for that matter), but it is emblematic of what goes in to good couture garments. There is a lot of splashy pulp couture fashion out there, big names and bigger price tags. But classic couture is about quality from the quality of the fabric used, to the quality of the construction of the garment-from seamstress to tailor fitting-and the quality of the designers knowledge designer in how to put it all together. While keeping stock of was is currently trending. So, finally getting back to the chains on the dress: they are a visual celebration of all things Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld’s incredible understanding and talent. And to see Lily Rose Depp, who quite possibly cut her teeth in the Chanel fashion house, wear the Chanel Chain dress on the Red Carpet brings the whole thing full circle, and gives the meaning to timeless fashion. Well, I’ve run on enough about this topic that aired almost a year ago. But darling, that is what old people DO.

Sailor Pluto was my introduction to this dress. It's a beautiful and interesting piece. I wasn't old enough to have much interest in fashion back in 1992, but it is interesting to see old pieces come back as classics like this seems to be doing.

I love Karl Lagerfeld. His designs were really timeless in the sense that his work can be very fussy and it can be very minimal, but he always has classic shapes that really satisfy the eye. I am carrying one of his purses right now. I would love a video on that Versace dress that you showed/mentioned! Also the "bandage" dress of the 90's/early 00's. I think they were created by Herve Leger.

I think it would be really cool if you either did a general analysis on Selena Quintanilla's style, venture into the fashion industry and her legacy OR an iconic fashion moments video on her purple jumpsuit since that seems to be her most recognizable/recreated/memorable/iconic outfit!!
