1) I've started taking GG to correct for statin use which, by itself, will decrease COQ10 synthesis. 2) I've also started K2-Mk4 since the most popular, Mk7, has NOT been shown to help scavenge calcium from our arteries like Mk4 has. (Mk7 has a longer half-life, which is the only benefit I've seen stated for it over Mk4.) I put this rationale together from your prior videos and a bit of googling. Thanks for all this analysis and info!

p.s., I didn't know GG was also needed for protein synthesis and testosterone! Maybe I should up my dosage... lol. (Currently 150mg/day)

Is there any RCT that shows MK-4 is better than MK-7 at anything? I did not think that such a study exists. Furthermore, it's my understanding that your body converts K1 and MK-7 into MK-4.
@msplateaugal8 ай бұрын
@@jackbuaer3828 Is there any reason you know not to take MK-4 instead of MK-7?
@jackbuaer38288 ай бұрын
@@msplateaugal Perhaps. Absorption. I am not an expert, but I can certainly cite a study: "However, little is known about the bioavailability of nutritional MK-4. To investigate MK-4 and MK-7 bioavailability, nutritional doses were administered to healthy Japanese women." "However, in a previous rat study from our group [18], the intake of a nutritional dose of MK-4 did not increase the MK-4 levels in extrahepatic tissues, whereas MK-7 significantly increased MK-4 in extrahepatic tissues. Thus, MK-7 is a better supplier for MK-4 in vivo than MK-4 itself. "In this study, we demonstrated that a nutritional dose of MK-7 is well absorbed in human, and significantly increases serum MK-7 levels, whereas MK-4 had no effect on serum MK-4 levels. Therefore, the nutritional values of vitamin K2 homologues should be differentiated with regard to bioavailability and efficacy." Sato T, Schurgers LJ, Uenishi K. Not just the tail of any vitamin k2, but the proper form of k2. Which makes things way cooler. Thanks for touching on CoQ10 and steroid hormones too, that all gives a nice overview. I wasn't aware of these simple things. One of the best videos here as far as I'm concerned. 👍

I didn't consider this before, but based on your discussion of vitamin K, it also seems very likely that vitamin K is needed in older people who are trying to fix sarcopenia.
@ModernHealthspan8 ай бұрын
Hi Jeff thanks for your comment. Vitamin K does seem to be required for muscle synthesis and it is used in Japan (as MK-4) as an intervention for sarcopenia.

There may be no need to get GG through supplements; annatto is a very common cooking herb or spice here in Asia, and most likely other places and it’s dirt cheap too. It also is rich in The kind of vitamin E that you mentioned. I make a Vegetable stew every week or so with 3 tablespoons of annatto in it, ground to powder first. It appears that the expensive supplements you recommend Are merely fractional extracts of whole annatto and are probably inferior to it because of the processing and removal of healthy cofactors.

Longevity community acting like gerangylation, farnesylation, myristoylation, and sumolation of proteins; the donors that achieve this, are some new and revolutionary finds. P.S excessive palmitoylation of proteins leads to obesity due to excessive mitochondrial fission and lack of fusion. Myristoylation of proteins counter balances excessive Palmitoylation pushing you back towards metabolic hormesis. This is why they trial Myristoylglycine for weight loss therapy. Geranylgeroaniol is just a protein modification donor balancing out an imbalance in protein modifications probably driven by the modern western diet.

Apparently, olives (and olive oil) and flaxseed contain GG as do some herbs. Don't know levels though or how this compares to supplements. My TT is high, but can't say that it is due to my significant intake of olives and flaxseed.

Unfortunately dr Tan is more of a thrifty businessman than a doctor. He found a way to use the leftovers from the production of tocotrienols from annatto, before he just disposed this stuff. Nevertheless, it may still be useful.
