I think the thing with meteor vs solid fuel rocket is that “ram jet” missiles like meteor doesn’t have to carry its own oxidizer, so can have higher specific impulse than solid fuel rocket, but generate less impulse in a given amount of time. So solid fuel missiles are sprinters, while air breathing missiles are endurance runners. Meteor has a longer no escape zone than solid fuel but solid fuel can accelerate to Mach 4 and reach the target much faster than Meteor can. Within a certain range, solid fuel is better than meteor, and beyond that range vice versa. Current militaries have different opinions, with US and China preferring duel firing solid fuel (AIM-260 + PL-15) and Europe preferring air breathing (Meteor).
@thomaszhang31012 жыл бұрын
I think the Meteor in here is over modeled because it seems dev simulated air breathing engine with a solid fuel engine that never burns out, giving Meteor all the benefit of a solid fuel and that of an air breathing.

It's weird people mention meteor's weakness. People always talk about how it is the best in the world and nothing can beat it whatsoever but I always wondered if this is the best thing ever, and why the rest of the world doesn't try ram-jet in their air-to-air missiles yet.
@92HazelMocha2 жыл бұрын
@@MGZetta The problem is that the fuel that the meteor uses was only just invented to power the meteor and is highly classified. Previously air breathing motors were just inferior as air to air missiles and MDBA invented a new type of fuel to make them viable.
@92HazelMocha2 жыл бұрын
@@thomaszhang3101 Normally you'd be right, but the meteor is both high impulse and air breathing in addition to being throttlable. It's actually still under-modeled here. The IRL meteor can idle or even shut off its motor to cruise then re-ignite itself at will. As for why the US and China don't use air breathing missiles, that has more to do with the US and China lacking the technology (so to speak) to do so. The meteor uses a proprietary fuel which was invented by MDBA specifically for high impulse, could oxidize in ambient atmosphere, and could be throttable. It is currently a very well kept secret which is a shame because it could revolutionize all rocketry, not just air to air missiles. Edit: addtionaly the meteor has two motors, the first being a small traditional rocket motor used to launch the missile, then the cavity left when that motor burns put becomes the primary thrust vector/exhaust for the boron based throttlable motor.
@MGZetta2 жыл бұрын
@@92HazelMocha I mean, I don't think it's that hard for the US to buy meteor and check the chemical content in the fuel. And ram jet ain't new. the problem is not the VLS count itself, type 052D only has 16 more VLS than the type 052C, the main problem is that the type 052D has much better radars and they can fire the longer-range missiles such as the YJ-18 while the type 052C can only fire the YJ-62, the same applies for the type 055.

Love watching these. Someday I'll start playing MP in DCS. Question: are decoy missiles modelled in DCS? if each Chinese fighter fired 2 decoy missiles, it would triple the amount of contacts on the radar. Maybe the AWACS could tell the difference, but if even half the missiles were fired at a decoy instead of a fighter, it would go a long way to offsetting the F-35's stealth advantage without needing to have a stealth aircraft themselves. Thinking more for US vs China, but it could really be used in any of these battles.

Exactly, without stealth why use the F-35. Except for it's insane radar and it's stealth, it's not a great plane, might as well use typhoons or modernised flankers or F-16s or rafales or something. With its stealth, the F-35 is great because you can shoot your enemy well before they can lock on to you, as we've seen before (which must be even more powerful with the extremely long range missiles now). You could get close enough to take out their AEW, and then maybe even launch your anti-ship missiles before bothering with the fighters, and no need to fly low so for high and save your energy for dodging any missiles you do receive.

The current version of the SM-2 is the Block IIIB/ RIM-66M. Pretty sure the in game version is from the 80s or 90s. Is it possible to have the F-35 Lightning, in stealth or murder configurations, upon deployment of all of their air-to-air missiles, automatically turn back towards their carrier group as well as automatically despawn (this would temporarily take the load off your DCS server's CPU and RAM)? Then, after accounting for the time needed for them to "RTB," land, rearm, and refuel, have them auto-spawn fully fueled and rearmed behind their carrier at a predetermined altitude, simulating their take-offs, and immediately have them reengage the enemy, thereby continuing the fight. Note that the same programming could also be applied to all aircraft in both carrier fleets, with the exception of any fighters shot down during the battle.

I thought the QE was heading to America to test the new software (is that what they’re testing, please confirm) for the f35’s? god what happened? Lastly, I’d say that now that the video is finished, I’d say the British have more stealth configuration fighters to preserve as many as possible, the 8 you had in stealth config had about 32 meteor missiles between them, so to roughly equal the number of enemy aircraft in terms of missiles you’d hafta have 16 f35’s in stealth configuration carrying 4 each, leaving only 8 in murder configuration.

The UK carriers can operate in a surge environment with up to 70 F35’s if most of the helicopters are taken off. This would only be done if a near peer war started. I would also like to see the CAMM missile added to the game. The Aster 30 (long range) is pretty much the same as the equivalent US missiles, but CAMM (short-medium range) are supposed to be really, really good. They can also be quad packed into a single VLS cell so for a saturation attack like this they are excellent. Britain has also already stated the FAA will acquire a minimum of 60, maybe up to 80, but I reckon with the defence budget increasing that number will go up. If budgets were slashed to an absolute minimum and both carriers were out they would have 30 each

Out with the old, in with the new? Nevermind that redo, once we get them LRASM! We need to send a B1B after the Type 003 in Shanghai harbor, coming in at Mach 0.96, 100 feet above the waves, with 24 x LRASMs in the bay, 2 x F-22 escorts super-cruising just behind it, at 70k feet... then come the hornets! Someone else suggested that a Virginia class might disseminate a cruise missile salvo timed to arrive at the same moment as the B1B stores. Decoys from another direction might be interesting, fired to attract the Chinese scrambled fighters towards the wrong directions, encouraging them to turn their backs to the F-22 escorts and the F-35s that would be scouting ahead of the hornet strike package from a carrier in the area. These decoys might be launched just after the B1B launches, then turns, before beginning to climb and accelerated once it is safely out of contested air space. Ideally, you would wait until the Chinese detected either the B1B, or its stores, or impacts on targets, and began to scramble, then you would launch the decoys, I would imagine. Take perhaps 6 hornets, armed with 3/4ths decoys and 1/4th HARMs, send the decoys first, loiter briefly, then send in HARMs behind the decoys, for good measure, if you can have an AI do all of that. Your secondary mission is to provide air cover for the USS Iowa, as it steams to within range of the harbor (please check to be sure that the USS Iowa's armor is accurately modeled, as a direct Chinese 500 lbs bomb strike should look similar to a mosquito bite on the hull of the Iowa). 2 x Sea Wolf class escorts for the Iowa. Full steam ahead! Also, please model that nifty little US aerial refueling drone, the MQ-25. I was thinking about what you said about how long it would take to re-fuel 50 planes the other day. Well, maybe so, but maybe you get a different result if you have 10 x small aerial refueling drones, instead of 2 x large manned aerial refuelers...

Love your work but a little disappointed with the loadout for the RN. (Only one QE class is broken atm - PoW). QE class can operate up to 72 aircraft and the purchase has been totally committed - so no backing out. They've actually said they'll get the full 78 and likely more. 24 is the minimum load out of F-35. 36 is the maximum it will usually sail with. However it can take up to 60 in extreme cases (should there be another Falklands situation). By mid-2020, the Type 26 will be in service and even the Type 23 is closer to an older AB class than an OHP. Type 26 is closer to the Type 45 than an older AB class, so it would make more sense to put another Type 45 instead of the OHPs - which make very little sense at all. I don't think the RN would risk any F-35s in 'murder' mode for a near-peer fight (but you'll always get other people complaining). One of the benefits of the QE class over any carrier with cats and traps is that it can land aircraft and take them off at the same time with less of an impact on take off sortie rate. The QE class was designed almost entirely around a sortie rate that matches the Nimitz class whilst carrying fewer aircraft. Obviously you can't do an RTB in game yet, but that's what would happen. Re-arm and refuel in stealth config until the risk is reduced. I really don't understand why youve artificially nerfed the RN fight for 'reasons' - none of which make any sense whatsoever.

Also, it was recently on show, during which it had three covers, clearly covering the catapults, which were too thin to be covering more than one each. Also, QEC carriers have very poorly reported max air-wing size, it's not 38 or less. Those lower numbers are typical loadouts, not max. On top of that, in Britain we don't traditionally deck park the aircraft. If we did, you can easily get 32 F-35's just on the deck. I think max complement may actually just be classified, along the same vain as max speed. Yet people still try to compare the numbers to say "ours is best" 😂

I'd love to know how the USN figures out their VLS loadout for each deployment (as would China!), so I really don't know what a realistic number is.

29 F-35's in the uk now, F-35b with full weapons load is called Beast mode. Task force would also have submarines, not sure if they could be modeled.

Ehm wouldn't the SM2's be in networked among the ships so they don't all fire 3 SM2 against each missile.

You'd have a type 23 ship there as well, and 2 Type 45's. If this is Austerity, all 35's would be Stealth to save on Missiles. As to the state of Carriers, only POW is having issues QE2 is out and doing the duties. Euro Fighters may be configured to fly from Carriers at that point, or not depending. You'd also have helicopters firing anti-ship missiles. The big advantage would be the UK Subs (which can't be modelled). However, I think you looked at the wrong policies as a lot of money is going into Defence rather than cuts (although technically it's a cut).

Back in late 2000s, I saw some concept art of HMS _Queen Elizabeth_ on a local magazine I bought. I remember how they draw her like a spaceship. And it turned out to be pretty accurate!

6:30 - Ship on ship contact might not be happening anymore due to development of all these missiles, but for the 'funzies' of it, why not place these fleets without their planes, all guns 'loaded for bear' at a distance that they are within firing range, just to see which ships remain. There is no harm in that to just gauge the 'ship quality' in a old fashion Naval battle.

I don't know if you noticed CAP but the Type 45 mod is broken as it can only launch one or two missiles at a time whereas it should be able to launch a similar amount to a Burke

I'd like to see a continuation of the scenario where the depleted 2025 British fleet make a run for it being pursued by the 2025 Chinese fleet. A plausible excuse (technical issues on deck) for a time delay can be introduced to make the Chinese lose sight of the British fleet, so that part of the challenge for the Chinese is locating the British whilst their scouting aircraft are engaged by F35 with Stealth configuration.

The Block 2 version of ESSM, is also entering the fleet. Note that there is also a Block 2 version of the Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) out there. Both of these missiles can also be used against surface targets.

As we all can see and learn there is a reason why stealth rules the sky at this time in warfare, yes you're sacrificing a few shots but you are not going to loose as many planes, so for games I'm sure that's a ton more fun. But in reality your going to save your assets this means aircraft and pilots. Using the safest and best configuration for both aircraft and human life.
@stuka_72 жыл бұрын
I would image that the Type 23 (or the Type 31 that would be in service by 2025) would be more useful than an OHP with their VLS (and dual purpose 40mm for the 31)

It'll be Type 26 by 2025. Type 31 is due 2027. But yes, the even the Type 23 is closer to older AB class destroyers and the Type 26 will be closer to the Type 45. Why on earth they were set to an "OPV" is beyond me.

FFG46 WAS MY OLD SHIP. SHE WAS DESTROYED IN A SINKEX. If you look up the video she too several missile strikes and was only sunk after a torpedo hit her and that was considering that there was no crew to do damage control onboard. Of course many would have died in those missile strikes and there is no telling what combat capability she would have retained. In the end she was much tougher than they thought. Tougher than those crappy littoral ships they bought.

@Rob K Cap was saying the next iteration would start with 36 instead of 24 as it did this time. Factor in respawns after that. Point being the Chinese were too numerous for the scaled down force he'd given himself to fight effectively so the next iteration would give a little more oomph to the British side. Ciao!

I thought that the Queen Elizabeth usually has US Marine Corps F35Bs to enhance its air wing. I think the US lends 10-12 at a time to the British fleet. The f35B uses the GAU-22 gun pod, it is a 4 barrel version of the GAU12. It weighs 220lbs and is optimized for minimal drag in addition to minimal RCS.
@strambino12 жыл бұрын
Here is a video description of the gun pod. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHLSnoCEmL6gec0

The gun pod is a ground attack/CAS weapon, it's not designed for aerial combat. It fires armor piercing high explosive incendiary rounds for use against light vehicles.
