suggestion: make the psu smaller so it's flush with the back of the unit
@wolfmanrepairsАй бұрын
Thank you for the suggestion!! I will have to look into getting a 3D printer so I can accomplish this 🐺🐺😁😁
@RossDCurrieАй бұрын
@@wolfmanrepairs Yeah, me too. I have a few friends that have them but it's not the same as having your own and tinkering. Out of curiosity, any leads on sourcing just the pin connector? Seems wasteful to buy a $25 psu then just rip out the one part. Of course, in your case you do end up using the rest of the case.

I’ve been looking for just the connector for a while now. The cheapest way I can get one is ordering an aftermarket power supply and cutting that connector off. It’s still expensive just for a connector!! If you find any let me know 🐺🐺😁😁

WOOHOO! Nicely done! Would be great to have a 3D printed back plate that would sit flush with the N64's shell and accommodate the USB-C terminal.

that definitely adds new life to a sadly now over 20 going on 30 (WOW) and so modern to remove parts that are im sure at end of life and or can start to fail to add a power supply that anyone with a cell phone now has as iirc both apple and samsung now use the same power cords...

Yes I agree!! Can’t believe this console is going on 30 years old!! That aftermarket power supply didn’t look all that robust on the inside!! Glad I changed it to USB C!! 🐺🐺😁😁

This would have been much more practical if implemented inside the console making USB C a second option apart from original adapter!
@wolfmanrepairs2 ай бұрын
That would have been awesome!! I might have to try that out!! Thanks!! 🐺🐺😁😁

@@wolfmanrepairs You're welcome! I am going to do that myself as soon as I receive the USB C trigger and the step down circuit! I hope you will upload a video in case you try that out, I subscribed already so I will be waiting :)

Awesome ingenuity! How's the longevity of your n64 (crusty) going to be with an extra .3 amps running through the power?
@wolfmanrepairsАй бұрын
Thank you!! I’m not sure if the console will pull the full 3 amps. I don’t have a dc amp meter. But we will see what happens!! 🐺🐺😁😁
@megaspacer11Ай бұрын
@@wolfmanrepairsI worried for no reason lol. I read up on it and with dc supposedly most dc loads only only draw the amperage they need.

Usb c into a PD that plugs into house current, correct? Is there a way to do this with 12v as the source?
@wolfmanrepairs18 күн бұрын
I’m using a USB C laptop power supply that outputs 12v. I would assume as long as you have 12v and 3.3v going to the console it would work. What kind of power supply are you thinking of using? 😁😁🐺🐺
@ramiq79323 ай бұрын
Ordered the same parts but I'm getting 9V on the 12V rail 🤔
@wolfmanrepairs3 ай бұрын
Check your USB C power supply it might not put out 12v. I had the same thing happen to me with an HP power supply. It did not put out 12v and I was getting only 9v. It was super frustrating!! 🐺🐺😁😁
@ramiq79322 ай бұрын
Thanks. That's likely it. I'll order a new PSU.

The butchery is strong with this one... On Ali you can buy a wired panel USB-C connector you can then solder on the first module.
@wolfmanrepairsАй бұрын
Yeah that tends to happen with stuff I make… Thank you for your suggestion though!! I will have to look into it!! 🐺🐺😁😁
@bufordmaddogtannenАй бұрын
@@wolfmanrepairs this is the first time I see something like this from you, so don't beat yourself down too much. 😁 On a serious note, they also have small PCBs with and without resistors in case you want to use a PD power supply.
@adilator3 ай бұрын
You messed too much with the connector, you risked melting it. All you had to do was tin the wires.
@wolfmanrepairs3 ай бұрын
Yeah I was afraid I was going to melt it!! I should have tinned the wires to get them to stick!! I’m glad I found those holes under the solder to stick the wires into!! 🐺🐺😁😁
