Angelina is single handedly raising the jazz genre from the ash heap of obscurity and bringing it back to its prominent place where it belongs. She is also introducing jazz to the younger generations who most have never listened to jazz before.

That was her grandmother she was gesturing to while singing, her #1 Angel fan! This ended up on her album, It’s Magic, that they showed on screen. Yes, she’s bringing jazz back into the 21st century! Love her!

When you see Angelina looking at someone to get their reaction, she is looking at her grandma, Mery Zamani. Her grandma, Mery is Angelina’s greatest creative influence. Mery was also a child prodigy. Grandma Mery is a renowned painter and poet. Whenever you watch a performance when a young Angelina is singing in her family’s living room all of the paintings you see were painted by grandma Mery. Angelina’s colorful suit in her A.G.T. “Bohemian Rhapsody” performance is covered with several images of grandma Mery’s paintings. In Angelina’s lyric video for her “Million Miles” song all of the artwork used in the animation was illustrated by grandma Mery.

Angelina Jordan is only 11 years old here, the first time she is recording this in the studio, and she is reading lyrics off of her phone! What you are hearing is the version that is recorded for her debut album, It's Magic. It is a compilation of many classic songs that Angelina did somewhere between the ages of 8 and 12. It may even be ages 10 to 12 as I'm not certain. As the title says, that album is Magic in itself and for 4 years has appeared frequently in the top 100 jazz albums of all time on iTunes pop vortex. It has even been in the top 10 at times. What a genius she is. She doesn't sing the song. She feels the song and is the song!

11 yo here. You're right, it was her grandmother you saw. I am absolutely fascinated that she can sing this. It's so similar to Billie Holiday that it amazes me. I like her choice of songs. Remember it's her choice! No one controls Angelina's music. Her parents were sensible and let Angelina make these choices herself.
@charlesmorris64762 жыл бұрын
Yes that was her grandmother. I think this is one of the best songs Angelina has done, it’s certainly in the top five in my view. You should give a listen to her singing an old Frank Sinatra tune “You Make Me Feel So Young”, she has her dress and hair done up in a 40s style hairdo sitting at the table in front of one of her grandmothers paintings, and I swear her vocals in this song has the same spirit, style, and technique from 1940s original sound. It’s quite astonishing and magnificent, every time she leaves you with such a wonderful impression, I want more please!❤ she is mind blowingly crazy good!

Angelina's childhood has probably been more than Angelina could have hoped for. Knowing from the age of 5 that she wanted to be a superstar and sing for the world, she put in the hard work and has strived to reach perfection. Singing in a studio to her is like playing in the best sandbox to most children. Notice how much she is rapt in the song with the hand movements. I'm always amazed at how she is able to contort her mouth to get the sound she wants. Pure genius. The first time I saw this I nearly fell out of my chair! The mash up of this with Billie Holiday proves that Angelina is one of a kind: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2HYf5aOhNhnibM Like you Bob, I would never have thought to look up these old songs to listen to but I'm so glad Angelina brings them back to life. The songs she chooses are great songs that have stood the test of time.

If you really want your mind blown , this was the 2nd song that Angelina did on Norway's Got Talent between 7 or 8 years of age . She did it completely Acapella and did her usual great job of it!!

Effortless! But how can such greatness appear so effortless? IMO she is the ultimate parasympathetic performer. It is common to see performers at any field being wired with their sympathetic sympathetic (fight or flight) system fully engaged. In contrast, I believe Angelina sings at top form while being relaxed. This allows her to open up with this unique combination of confidence and genuine vulnerability.

Bob, spectacular! One of my favorite video's. Bob, not only is she bringing the music back to us but she is also introducing this music to today's youth and they will get a chance to listen to real music. And they will feel her love in their hearts and that will be something, a feeling they've never experienced before. Yes, eventually the youth will join us older guys and gals on her journey and there will come a day when everyone in the world will know who Angelina Jordan is.

My guess is that Angelina's looks and approving gestures at the camera are directed to the person most likely to be holding the camera, her mother. At the end we can glimpse her beloved grandmother, who introduced Angelina to the Jazz classics at a very early age. Angelina is obviously enjoying this to the hilt.

Hello, Bob. You might remember that this song was her a cappella placement audition in Norway's Got Talent. Her more mature voice here is displaying even more agility. I recently listened to a Billie Holiday recording and so much of what Angelina does here evokes Billie Holiday's voice, but it isn't a mimic. Yes, her singing does that to me. Possibly her grandmother. I think she was trying out that disc thing on the mike and that was her excitement. I truly enjoyed this reaction session tonight. Glad you had fun in Vegas. Angelina has occasionally had contact with singing teachers. But not so much to change her self-taught way of singing, but more to learn how to protect her amazing voice. Angelina, 5-6 yo, attended Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, She learned to play piano, guitar etc. She has also learned to arrange music etc. She started singing when she was very young! Since then, she has trained an incredible amount. I have heard that she practiced several hours a day, already at the age of 4-5.

Hi, great reaction, and really fun this comes up now, because just today I recommended this (Angelina's, not yours...) video to Kristina Madrigal who is another amazing singer from the Philippines, I discovered her two days ago because the great Katrina Velarde features in a newly released duet with Kristina, and we became friends on Facebook and chatted some, both listening to Sarah Vaughan in the background, and as Kris wants to do more jazz she asked me for song suggestions and I sent her Angelina's video and Kristina actually watched it about the same time when you uploaded your reaction, her comment was "Suits her voice! Wow!" (I don't think she ever listened to Angelina before), I know for sure she did not know Angelina's great version of "When You Believe" when she recorded that great song with Katrina, she said "I actually haven't heard other versions cause I wanted to create my own and I've known this song since I was probably 10?" - Now to make a long story short, all of this is just to get you curios about a Pinoy singer whom Katrina considered worthy to sing a duet with and whom I wowed with Angelina... :) So if you will please react to: WHEN YOU BELIEVE by KRISTINA MADRIGAL ft. I think she is seeking approval from her Grandmother Mery who is in the booth making this video. By All Accounts, Grandma Mery was the one who introduced AJ to Billie Holiday and all the other Jazz classics, practically in the cradle, so I'd say it would only be natural for AJ to look for Grandma's approval! Legendary (and Mythical) implies something from the past which may or may not be true, so I wouldn't use that word in reference to Angelina....Instead I'd say Miraculous; Incomprehensible; or Astonishing. 😃

She's not looking for acceptance or approval!! She has nonsensical foolish stuff in her hair and she is fooling with her grandmother, who is the videographer. She's playing with her. It's a rehearsal. As far as what you said about how she makes you feel ... YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I believe almost all of us who love her feel the same way. She calms us and nurtures us, in a way. She is amazing. I also loved seeing her play around with her Grandma. By the way, this is the song she sang in Norway's Got Talent and she did it a capella and totally brilliantly. It's the second song on the video that has all the four songs on it and it is truly worth seeing her sing at age 7 .. and in the finale, when she sings Summertime, she had just turned 8. If you have not seen that video (get the one with the translations cause you want to understand what the judges are saying.)
