In addition to all of these, always put the e-brake or manual brake on/up before putting your car in park when parking on an angle (decline/incline). This will help the overall life of your pin to hold the transmission in place during park & the overall life of the transmission itself. This isn't a problem for manual transmissions, only automatics, and is something very few people know as a very helpful hint/trick.

No, rain won't get through the gaskets and seals. Never pressure wash mechanical parts with oil in them. Oil and water don't mix, but they interact in a way that when heated and mixed by spinning gears, they foam up into bubbles, dropping your oil pressure and causing your car to not lubricate itself properly, leading to metal shavings from metel-metal contact, which, even after you replace the oil, will still slowly eat away at your transmission.

I just want to say that I've seen a lot of people saying that they are annoyed by the people who shut their engines at red lights and calling them stupid.They don't stop the engine , newer vehicles automatically stop the engine to save fuel and to also reduce CO2 emissions. This is called start-stop and it has been implemented in a lot of older cars like the 2011 Audi Q7 so this technology has been used in cars for almost a decade or maybe more so I don't see how people don't know about this already and how they can talk about something they don't really know.
@Groza_Dallocort Жыл бұрын
Start-stop system is annoying though so the first thing I do on my car when I start it is to turn that system off. Another thing with Start-Stop system is that it will probably wear out your starter faster and that will probably cost more then the few drops of fuel you save by the engine turning off
@AlexandreBugado11 ай бұрын
I doubt they haven't made a system without parts specifically made to handle it. They probably would stop using this system if it caused problems. My uncle has always used the Start-stop system and hasn't needed to replace any parts in 4 years, still going. But yes, it saves very little fuel

You should never press the clutch in a manual or coast in neutral if you go downhill. You don't get the engine-braking effect, in a manual either downshift and ease off the gas, or if you sit in an automatic car, just leave your foot off the pedals and maybe use CC to keep your speed without braking. The automatic Transmission will perform downshifts to slow the car down. Riding the brake pedal will let your brakes run hot and they start to smear, which will affect your ability to slow the car down. This also causes the brakes to chime after cooling down again. If that's the case, perform multiple hard stops from higher speeds to rub off the hard rubber (from the cooling process) on the brake. You can always change from Neutral to Drive in an automatic, in case you need to get towed after an accident. "Never launch your car while in neutral" - What the hell man? If you intend to launch it from a standstill, just press brake and gas at the same time, nobody revs up and switches to drive... Pressing Gas and Brake at the same time causes the clutch (in a dual/single clutch car) to slip or the torque converter to build up pressure, let off the brake and you accelerate with full power.

3:55 You cant launch in neutral your car wont move
@ar2243 Жыл бұрын
Putting it in neutral at a stoplight is a good thing. If your problem is forgetting it’s in neutral then pressing gas when the light turns green then just work on that which wouldn’t take a long time to muscle memory it and wasting a little gas isn’t costly. I do understand people might need to move asap like emergencies/accidents approaching but if you’re able to shift to drive fast enough then that’s okay. Overall, putting the car in neutral when at a stoplight is not bad at all if anything it is good as it disengages the clutch causing less stress on some parts and I’m pretty sure a lot of manual drivers put their car in neutral at a stop light.
@ar2243 Жыл бұрын
Also press brake once you want to shift into drive. If you didn’t rev before shifting then you can just shift into drive without the brake since there’s really no torque applied.

I once knew a guy who had a car that was so messed up that he apparently put the car in reverse every time he wanted to stop. Needless to say that car got destroyed, I don't know how much of his story was true but he definitely had a car with brakes that didn't work at some point
@cielzuniga70743 жыл бұрын
"Never switch to neutral at a stop light" explanation more please. Because a lot of the professional drivers I know said that it's better to switch to neutral(and hand brake) at a stop because it avoids the stress to the car.
@ACommenterOnYouTube2 жыл бұрын
Yes ... its less stress on the engine that is trying to pull a car while you are holding it back by using the brakes. By putting it in N, that allows the engine to rotate freely without restriction.

@dbclass40754 жыл бұрын
Somewhat true, although it depends on how your engine handles fuel starvation. Most modern cars do not have this problem. Those that didn't cope well causes massive sudden engine braking that stresses the transmission.

Heres a tip; Check and make sure your 710 fluid is clean for optimal engine performance. If it's not clear you have to drain the fluid, change the fluid filter, and add 710 fluid but they don't sell it in stores, but all it is, is water. you'll need 4-6 quarts and 710 milliliters of no oil.

Yes it does why do people idle the car to warm it up and idle while picking up passengers or people have engines running in idle with air cons on while eating MacDonald in the parking lot and pull over to answer the phone while idling. Maybe he should catch a bus while the timing belt or timing chain are spinning the oil pump will work just do not turn off the ignition while coasting down hill the steering wheel will lock up

It's fine to run your car low on gas. The dirt in the bottom of the tank always gets to the pump even on a full tank of fuel. That's why there is a strainer on the bottom of the fuel pump and in the fuel line. And the fuel pump has nothing to do with the transmission.
@skylerbrehm14433 жыл бұрын
actually it strains the fuel pump when it is not sucking up enough fuel. It can burn the pump out

Park actually isn’t for park in an automatic transmission it’s just a small hook that locks the transmission up you’re supposed be on the brakes put the transmission in neutral set the parking brake then put it park it prevents from damaging the transmission hence why when you put it in park sometimes the car will roll a rink bit
@C42ST3N5 жыл бұрын
So if going into neutral is a "bad idea" why are some DCT doing this on their own in some cars. You can save fuel in neutral but there is no short and easy answer about this topic.

Water should not get into your engine in general, not just the transmission. Granted if you get a few drops into the combustion chamber it likely will burn off, but you really don't want water in your engine anyway (unless it's engine coolant which is usually a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water). My general rule of thumb is that if the water comes up beyond the wheel hubs on my vehicle, I won't drive through it (I have a truck though so the engine does sit a few inches above the wheel hub level but still, many mfrs use this as a rule for determine if you should drive through standing water or not).

Using the parking brake could alleviate this risk but you don't recommend doing that either. Rule 1. If you take a risk sooner or later your luck runs out.
